Hi civicblade,

I went to PML parts counter this morning and the guy in front of me bought exactly the same parts as you described, was that you at PML? :cheeky:

Hi Phang,

I did not go to PML, I got Dili Trading to get the replacement parts.

Hi F650GS,

One question, can our bike keys be duplicated by any key makers? Or do we have to go back to PML to get a key for $58?

The ABS lights were flashing alternatively. According to stamford motors, the ABS should be working fine. He suspects the brakes. The previous owner believes that a fully charged battery will solve the problem. I guess I just have to ride it more often to get the battery to charge up.

Hi Civicblade,

Ride more offen - not sure this will charge the battery fully. Recommended doing external charging, using low amps charger (ard 1A) to fully charge the battery. Low amps takes whole night but better than rapid charger (normally used in workshop to save time) as it prevent surface charging. This commonly happen on old battery. Surface charging makes your battery like full and fully charge, but the capacity it holds actually much lower. So in the end it drain very fast. But beware of ABS system, not sure it will be affected if you removed the battery from the bike.

ur batt mayb weak if abs flashing alt. give it a rev for few sec or ride arn the crpark. Off the engine n restart it. shld solve the alt flashing. riding with alt flashing means ur abs is not activated. u will notice it dun have "clak clak" sound wen u move off w the lite stil alt flashing.....

Hi guys,

i've got a question.

Is the switch and brake lever set (right) and switch and clutch lever set (left) supposed to be loose?

I am able to rotate it a little bit both directions while the set is on the handle bars. Upon application of brakes by pulling the brake lever, the set moves. Is this normal?

Thanks

The blank cost $58? I'm surprised. The locksmith next to LAB will do one for ya at $5, without the prop logo :)

Get it externally charged, and end the speculation. Although it will be useless if the battery is on its way out.

Cheers

Just to share... did my keys at PML at $18. You guys sure at the $58?

Also to charge yr battery, they provide the external full charge up FOC. I had my battery flat once, got the free towing and free charged up but have to pay $58 for the engine troubleshooting for the failure to start up...which ionically is due to to battery power...

I must add that I follow thru with PML for all the 10k service.

Found another problem.

There is a electrical open circuit somewhere in the electrical lines from the ignition. Pulling and pushing around with the wiring harness at the left side uder the instrument panel will shut the bike down electrically. The left signal display on the instrument panel intermittenly shuts off even when the signal lights is turn on.

Brought the bike back to Dili. Initial diagnostic: could be a broken wire somewhere in the line. I'm suspecting a faulty ignition switch.

Hi F650GS,

Engine oil, shaft oil, rear drive oil and front and rear brake fluid.

Changed the spark plugs, rear brake pads, fuel filter and alternator V-belt. Replaced the license plate carrier as it was broken. Added a rubber spacer to the front shock as the old rubber spacer was worn.

The mechanic at Dili was friendly and professional.

Total labour cost was $120.

Nice ride. Very mechanical feel about the BMW that is very different from the japanese makes.

Hi.That's a great price for alot of stuff.i bought my 11R from Dili a month plus ago but had an oil change at Combine during lunchbreak.nearer to workplace.bottles and filter $57.will do the rest of the fluids next week at dili.yes the mech 's a nice guy.somehow he's got an expert hand at washing down bikes to 'showroom' shine.:) the bikes for sale in the shop are mostly prepared by him.

My R1100R needs a new V-belt to drive the alternator.

what is the symptom of v-belt wear?

Symptom of V-belt wear = battery not charging.

My personal experience of a V-belt wear. You cannot feel it. The V-belt most likely will be slipping against the load pully attached to the alternator but riders will not be able to see it.

The tell tale signs will be a battery that loses its charge and not able to charge or charging is intermittent. For my cases, when riding, the battery fault light will come on intermittenly and this causes the ignition to cut off, stalling the bike.

i've spray some WD-40 into the ignition key slot. My intention was to let the key slide more smoothly into the ignition key hole.

Could this be the cause of the ignition switch issue? WD-40 affecting the electrical contacts?

I do not think that the wiring could break that easily within its harnesses. The BMW R1100R wiring looks pretty sturdy.

The belt usually makes noise before it gives up.

Preventively changing it every 40,000 km keeps her going with no probs.

civicblade, check the wiring harness. Not just beemers, but most 10 year old bikes would have their harness worn out and probably need a re-wrap at some point in time. It's tedious work, but ultimately worth it cost in the course of it you will see most of the parts of the bike and it gives you a better insight as to the condition.

If the batt is old, change it. Later problems that come from a weak batt just ain't worth it.

Cheers

Great news for blue and white propeller fans who are sick of being outgunned on track (well, except maybe hp2 sport owners) by the Italians and the Japanese: Bmw has recently stated its intention to campaign in the Superbike World Championships (or WSBK) by 2009,announced by Gen Dir of BMW Motorrad hendrik von kuenheim.Judging from the photo, BMW will put its talented engineers to work a relatively conventional, compact supersports bike. The announcement declared BMW's proprietary telelever and paralever suspension systems too bulky and so the bike will use conventional upside-down forks.

The model will be designated S1000RR, with 'S' standing for Supersport. "1000" for then engine capacity and "RR" ostensibly for race replica.considering the bike features an inline four-cylinder engine, the 'S' may possibly also designate a new model family as BMW uses letters to denote diff models and engine configurations like 'F' for parallel twins and 'G' for its trademark boxer twins.

Already spotted on European racetracks testing alongside Japanese litrebikes for comparison, the bike will be sold in 2009 and 1,000 production models will be made for homologation purposes according to WSBK rules. For the racebike, German motorsport company Alpha-Racing will be involved in development and campaigning the bike.

Anyone with manometer to rent for a week or so? I'm thinking of synchronising the throttle bodies and adjusting the idle speed.

My R1100R's idle at ~1400rpm when warmed up. That's too high for my liking. Need to adjust the idling back to 1000+150rpm.

Hopefully the throttle body syn will make the bike runs smoother.

Thanks in advance.

Hi R11S,

I guess I can adjust the brass air screws on both sides of the throttle bodies to bring the idle speed down.

Adjusting both screws might cause a bigger inbalance between air take in both throttle bodies.

Need to have a vacuum gauge to check for proper balance.

Gents,

Read today's papers? Now we cannot fuel up within 50 km from Singapore. Great. How to go track now? Seriously will affect the JB economy, I reckon. The causeway petrol station had been single-handedly keeping JB afloat! :)

There goes my supper / breakfast rides too.

Just a gentle reminder from our neighbours as to who's the real boss even if the ICJ says a small rock in the middle of the ocean belongs to us.

Ah well,

Cheers
