Is it normal for vibrations to be very noticeable at the handlebars when the engine rpm rises above 4.5k?

At 3-4.4k rpm, the response from the engine and the vibrations from the handlebars can be described as enjoyable. Smooth and soft twin boxer power pulses.

As soon as the revs builds up to more than 4.5k, the vibrations at the handlebars amplified by a lot. Not really to the nuisance of numbing the arms and fingers.. but somehow slightly annoying. Strange to say that the vibrations stops at the handlebars. The footpegs does not vibrate, neither do the fuel tank, only the handlebars.

Is this normal? Mine's a 96R1100R.

Thanks.

Still having this problem?

If this problem still exist, you might want to check the engine oil level, if vibration felt above 4k rpm, think repeat "think" you have too much EO in your engine.

will too little EO also cause excessive virbration? another Q, how about say... i top up EO with semi-syn into a mineral oil lub engine, is it very bad for the engine?

Hi Xiaoming,

After doing the throttle bodies synchronisation with vacuum gauge, the vibration were significantly reduced.

Right now the vibrations at higer rpm above 5k can be described as normal, not uncomfortable for something to worry about in my opinion.

No sure if lesser EO will cause more vibration but if you see the idiot light lights up, then you better stop you bike and top up to the appropriate level as soon as possible. The red warning light is commonly named as idiot light it is alway too late to take any action when it lights up as EO level is just too low and too dangerous to ride on, you will damage or cease the engine if the ride continue.

I think it is not good to mix but bettering than damaging the engine with insufficient EO.

Mobil XHP 20W-50 is also ok.

Just return from Malaysia. Been looking for this but seem this model had been replaced with Mobil Super XHP Plus 15w40, and from the shop attendant, its been replaced last 5 mth like that. Other that I found is Mobil Super 20W-50

Instead I bought this from Tesco,

SAE 20W-50, exceed API SG/CD. Think it should be fine right? Anybody using this?

If not and you wanna go on Saturday morning, call me hor !

saturday open at 9am...... anybody want to go for "free" breakfast and some "shopping"? what a good time? me open for suggestion.....

if that not enough, maybe detour somewhere to get better breakfast. But I'm not familiar with that area, anybody know good makan place?

Hi Lightspeed,

The parts counter guy prefers a fax of the parts number that you need a price on.

After that you can either call him, giving him perphaps half a day to work out the pricing or have him fax you back the price.

If not, you can always go direct to the counter and ask. I did not ask for the price for the oil filter change kit.

I wonder if the Castrol GTX 20W-50 oil is available locally? How much is it going to cost at those lubricant and fluid shops?

Sat morning breakfast near PML is a good idea.

I might be going to Malacca this saturday, if plans change and I'm in Singapore, I'll join in for gourmet coffee and breakfast nearby.

NUS is all the way down towards the end of Clementi road. The over-rated Nasi lemak and cheese prata shop is at the end of clementi road.

Alternatively, the market at west coast road opposite Ginza plaza has some nice stalls in the market and coffeeshop that serves nice Lor Mee... I know cos I have lunch in that market every weekday.

Bukit Timah shopping complex is just nearby.

Or the old Turf club down the road has some out door cafe style stalls.

Hi Phang,

I was planning for a Malacca trip this weekend. But after looking at the photos that you have taken of Cameroon Highlands, I'm itching to make a trip there instead.

The last time i'm up there was about 7 years back. The roads up were in bad shaped in a dual carriageway. I rode then and with my cbr9, I'm able to zip past the tour coaches with ease. But this time round I am driving.

Is the road up still the same? Or is it like Genting? One way and one way down?

Where did you put up in while you are there? Any recommendation and what the price range? Do you have to make reservations in advanced? What are the must go attractions?

Thanks in advance

I was wondering if the RT1100R is a worthy buy at $7K, being reg at 1996. Its been more than 10 yrs, and is there any problem with this machine after busting 100,000Km? I love the outlook of the tourer, but the newer 1150RT is not within my reach. Any advise from fellow beemers rider?

actually there is quite a few beemers in this forums tat r more than 10yrs old... and those guys all seem pretty happy.. me included...and beemers are built with a million km in mind, so i would say they are pretty timeless and lasting machines... n with great spare parts support from PML....

My R1100R is 12.5 years old. Rides well. Trying out commuting to work for this week. So far so good for the yesterday and this morning.

R1100R is good for local ride. No fairing means a lot of cooling air

There is the new road and the old road now. The old road is tighter, harder to overtake a slow truck. The new road has better features and not so tight corners.

Boh tea farm is a must see for me; the viewing platform is great. Try to stay 2 nights to fully appreciate the place. The Equatorial is the highest point; but not so convenient for the nite market etc.

Cheers

hey guys, anyone know where i can find this sai tao? if anyone know please PM me where i can get one of these, and roughly how much it would cost me.. Thanks!!

US$45 bucks.

I reckon freight will be at least a S$100 to be safe; so you are looking at less than S$200. Not bad.

Hi civicblade,

Coolcat is right. I took new road up and old road down for this trip. Old road still as bad as seven years ago, if not worse. New road is dual carriageway too but far better in every aspect.

I didn’t stay overnight for this trip. I stayed in Equatorial Hotel the last time I went, can’t recall how much I paid but roughly around RM200~RM300 for a suite room. It should be non peak season now, but it is safe to give the hotel a call to make reservation.

I was looking at the Blue RT too... is the price reasonable? tough question... but if I like the badge and don't mind riding a COE bike, I will go for it and make sure I have some cash standby for following :

A) $3k for ABS

B) $3k for clutch replacement

c) $5k to replace the left chain tensioner inside the engine, many R11 experience broken left side chain tensioner

http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMid/B0003648.png

e) $1k for new disc plate for front and back

f) $300 for new starter motor

Immediate action after taking the bike...

d) $500 to replace a new hall sensor

e) $300 for valve adjustment

f) $200 for oil, air filter replacement

g) $300 for a new battery

h) $100 for new brake pads

i) new paint? new wiring or rewiring?

think still have some more tt I cannot think of now, then you will sure have a nice and enjoyable ride...

XiaoMing did not give complete picture. To him for a real "nice and enjoyable ride" must throw in $5000 for polishing brushes, re-chroming, new old stock enough for another bike ... Come on guys, we are freaking this gentleman out!!! :)

Cheers
