1. To change to a brand new r1200gs front fork plus top clamp and Head light. is it better to go agent or bike shop which is well verse on 1200gs.

IMHO not a difficult job. Main consideration will be labour cost v agent's branding and (presumably) better service standards.

  ezkhairy said:
2. Can r1200gs genuine parts be obtained other than from agent and overseas?

Don't understand your question, if not from Agent and overseas then I dunno where to buy parts :) Assuming you are asking about overseas buying, yes, most BMW dealers overseas will ship parts into Singapore, or within the States. Prices may not be cheaper than Agent. Same part numbers worldwide.

  ezkhairy said:
4. I had heard stories from fellow riders about agent that when bike were sent there for servicing/repairs, more problems the bike will face. these stories varies from different riders.

Frankly I have had good experience with Agent, professional except now they want me to buy parts in bulk e.g. minimum 30 same items of [part] etc if I do not service with them. This drove me completely away, actually.  Labour there is not cheap relative to most outside shops; but again, balance it against Agent's branding and (presumably) better service standards. I suppose as withmost things in life many people will say different things about the same thing. It's not cheap to own an European machine in the first place, and that is why these bikes are considered by some to be exclusive. :)

Hiya, posting an article on BMW bikes that I came across. It is thought-provoking ....

It's lengthy, BTW ....

Q: What’s it cost to own a BMW motorcycle? A: More than it used to!

Nov 11 '04 (Updated May 18 '08)

The Bottom Line Find a used airhead and learn to repair it yourself. It'll keep it's resale value and you’ll spend a lot less on parts and repairs over time.

..................

My current advice to a potential first time BMW owner? Find a good used airhead and learn to repair it yourself. You’ll save a lot of money up front, you’ll save a lot in depreciation when you sell it, you’ll spend less on repairs, and – if you ever find yourself alone and under an overpass with a dead bike in a thunderstorm, you just might be able to find and fix the problem yourself and make it home that night!

Makes potential buyers think again huh?? o_O

i agree with the "Q: What’s it cost to own a BMW motorcycle? A: More than it used to!" part. had my beemer for 6 mths now and had a couple of really astronomically expensive parts replaced.guess the bike chose me as it's owner who will bear the brunt of it's wear n tear.really timing.but it's been an intersting relationship i should say.took some time for it to grow on me.

Dear fellow BMW riders,

while going at ard 170kph on a r1100s for some time i experience a sudden lost of power.... the engine just died at speed luckily i pull the clutch in time and stop by the road side... safely.

switch off/on and tried to start the engine.. initially it could even crank... tired again this time it crank and the engine blurp... give some throttle and it started... continue with the journey everything went as normal, never went faster then 140kph after that..scary. even when i stop for gas, it fired right up.

The abs blinking sometime alt blinking some time it function normal, could the engine stall caused by the dying battery? cause i know the abs alt blinking means batt charging problem.

Anyone have similiar experience? is it the battery or something worst?

many thanks !

Well, guys, the call for volunteer Ride Marshalls (I think "marshall" and I think western movies :) ) is now made. Those keen on being a Convoy Marshall please pm me your details so that I can pass it on. Deadline is 20 Oct 2008 so I have to ask that those keen to pm me a day earlier, 19 October 2008.

More details on the events itself at

http://www.nbw.com.sg/registration.htm and

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206377&page=2

I am not sure whether Marshalls themselves will have to register so I will find out.

Hiya,

Thank goodness you are ok. My bet is on either a spot of water in the tank or bad fuel. Since you are a commuter, I reckon it may be the former and not the latter. Possibilities are that that your fuel pump "burped" as a result of some debris, fuel fliter clogged or in a worse case, the fuel pump is on the way out. Sorry I cannot be more definite, given my obvious limitations with the mechanics of bikes.

Personally if it is a one-off I'll just continue to ride the bike. On the electrics front, I think you need the diagnostic tools for feedback. Cannot help you there, man.

Cheers

Thanks, Mamat for the compliment.

I used a Yuasa sealed maintenance free battery previously. Pretty good, lasted me 2 years without any problem; I changed it even though it seemed ok, as I rather have a fresh batt then run the risk of a depleted one. On the net the model number is 51913, but I recall that the most important thing is the capacity, i.e. about 19 or 20 AH. If memory serves, I paid about $150 for the battery. Panasonic has one for the BMW oilheads too, LCX-1220P.

Yes, I've seen f650gs' black steed on the road before, with panniers, right? Is is difficult to ride with them in morning traffic? The width seems daunting.

Cheers

sorry for this abrupt intrusion guys.. but i figured u seldom see beemer parts for sale.. so i;d better post it here to get some awareness.. once again, forgive me for being off topic. i sincerely apologise.

Hi all.. i got a BMW rear rim for sale which is near showroom condition. initially got it for one of my projects but found that it did not fit as what i presumed. rim was never mounted on anything during my possession.

i also happen to have a R1100RT/RS swingarm for sale. let me know if u interested.

the rim measures 5'' x 17''. from what i found online, this set of rims are shared between quite a number of models of BMWs... u might wanna take this chance to grab this set for cheap ... bmw riders know better how much a new rear rim would cost u in sg... nuff said, pics tell a thousand words..

asking price for the rim is $800 bucks....

asking price for the swingarm is $150

call 96535273 to view/ deal. thanks guys.

yes, can't seem to live without panniers nowadays... hehe. I find it ok on the expressway morning traffic, the minor rd traffic will need some good estimation. some time a line of slimer bikers stuck behind me during tighter traffic...very paiseh
