When I was looking for a beemer, the F800ST was the only choice that fits my bill, a few months later, they brought in the R... *sigh*

But if I were you, I will do the engine change and the bike would probably run for another round of coe. The R1100S is beautiful.

looks-wise the 1200R is sort of conservative.it doesnt 'shine out' like the 1150.no test rides offered for this fella

About 20-22 km/l. Easiest way is to just pump until the fuel auto cut off and stop.

i think mine less than 18lm/l.. i have to kept revving my throttle [unstoppable] so engine doesnt stall.. could be the reason the FC is higher.

yet to try k&n filter and iridium plug.. should i send for computer check?

How about increasing your idle revs?

Checking your on board computer data would show the issues with the electronics only? Alan of Perfection Motors at Eunos can run a complete diagnostic - I got him to do one for me.

Are we talking about 650GS Twin here? And what is the date of manufacture?

BMW have released several new fuel maps for the 800/650GS. Go talk to your dealer. It's a BMW, you pay a premium price so go visit them and tell them, they can fix it under warranty.

See here for a discussion of fuel maps.

The diagnostic download from the computer showed that all electronic systems were working fine. The bike works fine too! :)

The mech did suggest that I change the oversize tyre back to a standard size one for lighter steering.

Hi guys

My bike suddenly died for the 1st time while inching slowly in a jam on a main road. Had to start the ignition to get it back to life. Mileage only 1K+ km. Any cause for concern?

Also, any of u guys ever been high-beamed by the cars that u overtook after they had given way?

Just last week, i was high-beamed 3x on the PIE and ECP. Prolly the headlights too high and way too bright.

Riding a GSA.

sounds like urs is a brand new 12gsa?

shld go back PML, since its under warranty.

hw much does this complete diagnostic cost?

do u have any problems starting? ie. the pistons will fire, but the idling cannot maintain. hence it dies off.

btw, whats the idling rpm u guys have on?

FOR SALE (PM for more details)

I think it is only fair that you hear from Alan about the price for doing the diagnostic, instead of from me. Donno how long it took because I came back much later to pick up the bike.

No problems starting. Just hold the starter button and it will always fire up within a few seconds. And stays on.

Idle RPM about 1500.

Well, when my bike broke down, it WAS a dark and stormy night.

3am on Malaysia's highway after a heavy downpour. :(

And I think that was what the workshop in Malaysia did; they told me they tested the sensor and found it working, so they only replaced the wiring. Here, shops will just tell you to buy a new one.

My car battery gave up on me one fine day. The mechanic told me never to disconnect the battery completely, and they changed the battery while the car was running. Disconnecting the battery would cause the car to lose all the fuel injection data. Probably "Combine" had downloaded a new map to your bike. Does your fuel consumption change after that?

Hi cql. How are you? Sorry for the late reply. Work was crazy last week. It's too early to tell. I just pumped a full tank today. Will see how long it last. Doubt there will be much of a change.

Recently, fuel consumption seems to have gone up slightly (before servicing at Combine). There was a strong petrol smell coming from somewhere near the seat. I complained to shop M and got the "it's like that one" answer. Ah Keong said he tightened the fuel hose clamp but the smell is still there.

Sigh, I guess I will have to wait for a major service before a mech will check thoroughly. Such is the kind of service we have here.

IMHO, both the 1100R & 1150R look better than their younger brother. All the other 1200 series bikes have distinctive looks that set them apart. But the latest roadster just looks too clean & plain. However, a Storm-rider member who bought it said it handled much better than his 1150R.

And also, the value of the bike on the pre-loved market is more in line with Singapore prices now...a used 800GS in singapore is more than a new one in UK

Any wonder why so few expatriates here ride BM?

Yes brand new. My previous nick was newbie aka NPNT anyway.

same here, 1.5k rpm too.

contrarian, do u have alan's no?

heard that he is a 1-man operation. do u hav to make an appt before going down?

i think if you can smell fuel, you better get it checked. once i had a bike that was serviced by some shops mentioned above where they replaced the a rubber gasket for the fuel pump/tank mounting with a paper one that leaked petrol all over the place. when i took the bike over from the owner, i got the similar "its like that one" but on furhter investigation, it turned out that i was riding a potential molotov cocktail.

i know of bikes going up in smoke due to old fuel lines/connectors failing. I suppose buying 3rd party, fire and theft would be a good idea, if you think its ok to smell fuel while riding your bike.

yes, but when I told a mech here what was done, he just said "no use wan, can't last wan".

So I bet when u complain of Hall sensor problem, shops here will just ask you to buy a new one. Less problem for them.

To be fair, the reason why the Malaysian shop did dat may be bec my riding buddy know their boss. Or maybe its troublesome to go buy a new one from the agent.

Whatever the reason, I was grateful they try to find ways around the problem to help cust save money instead of taking the easy option. If they were in Sing I will definitely go back to them.

Still, so far the shops that are mentioned here where I brought my BM to, the level of service is way better than most of the shops I went to with my previous Jap bikes. Maybe because there aren't so many engine types for BM and a mech who handled a boxer once will know what to do when servicing another boxer. With Jap bikes, the level of service is inconsistent especially if you try different shops. Unless you are riding a Super 4.

Anyway, is limbat a shop?
