This morning I discovered some low-life bas**** vandalized my bike. He stole the 2 emblems at the side of the tank. I think he used a screwdriver as there are some deep scratches left on the tank.

This is the 2nd time. A few weeks ago, some creep (could be the same a**hole) dented my fender extender. I told myself then that I would get an alarm, but procrastinated as I couldn't decide which one to get. Now I regreted...

Bro, my heart goes to you!

Some low-life also tried plying thru my keyhole recently. Perhaps you should try parking at different location and covering it up? installing a camera will be good too ...

Dear Currypuff, sorry about the low-life attack on your steed.

If I am you, I would not bother about the scratches under the badges unless bare metal is exposed (in which case simply put some nail varnish over it and then re-attach the badges). Polishing off the scratches would mean wearing down the lacquer coating; and is your paint work original? Looks like it. If you want to polish off the scratches, most auto paint shops can do that. PM me and I'll pass ya some contacts, but you gotta negotiate the cost with them directly.

Can I attach more than 1 pic in one reply? Anyone can advice?

Yes, possible ... just use the IMG thingy again.

This picture is not clear but if you look carefully you may see the dent near the right side of where the extender connect to the front fender. I was still wondering where I can get a shop to use heat to bend back into shape and now this...

If you need a heater gun let me know. I am hesitant about an alarm because my runaway imagination give me images of the vandal kicking my bike in frustration. A bike cover is good to deter lazy vandals; most of the smegging lowlifes are too lazy to get a job in the first place.

Cheers

Thank you for all the kind words.

Made a police report yesterday but doubt it will make any difference. Ask them about security cameras too. As expected, they advise me to go to HDB.

I read somewhere in this forum that the police and the town council keep passing the ball to each other when requested to install cameras. Collects $90 per car $17 per bike a month and yet not willing to spend $ to improve security. That’s PAP service for you.

Naturally, I don’t expect they will agree to for my case either.

No, I didn’t cover my bike. I have a cover but find it a hassle as I use my bike everyday.

Sigh, the cost of laziness.

However, I suspect this guy goes on the prowl on Sunday night as few people will be awake since the next day is the start of the work week. The fact that he was armed with a screwdriver shows he came prepared.

A bike cover will only work with the opportunistic thief. Once someone eyed your bike, say, when you just rode home, or even by looking underneath the cover, and decided to pay a visit later, then the cover is useless.

I am going to install a 2-way alarm tomorrow. Beside the deterrence effect it will also inform me what time the bike is tempered with. I can then track the pattern of the thief, or report it to the police.

Hi coolcat,

I understand your concern with an angry thief. But I think it is human nature that when a person knows he is committing a crime, he will always be looking over his shoulder. And when a loud sound suddenly comes on, making him jump, his first impulse will be to get away before someone sees him. Yes, he may curse and kick the bike or something, but I think it’s still preferable to letting him take his time with whatever he wants to steal/break.

Thanks for the advice on the paint. Most of the scratches are covered up by the badge (thank heavens), but at least one stretches longer than the badge and can be seen. I will see if the shop that installs the alarm can do anything about it. Yes, I will PM you later about the heater gun too. Thanks again in advance.

My stalling problem is solved, yeah!! :thumb:

Replaced my ignition switch and adapter lead.

It became obvious when my neutral light doesn't come on after stalling and at times starting of bike.

I will try to get the town council to install security cameras but I doubt they will bother.:weep:

Currypuff I had exactly the same problem as you back then when i moved to my new place in the west side. There's a school nearby. First i had my detachable mirrors missing and my father in law's parking coupon ripped off. My monthly season parking coupon was also switched to another bike. The last straw was when I saw a group of students jumping from one bonnet of a car to a series of few others. And my car was one of them. I took down their names, ensure i recognise their faces and made a police report plus I came down personally and complain it to their principal. A month later, they had a CCTV camera installed. The principal also got back to me and informed that he had made a firm warning to all students. Up till now which is about 4 years later, I had no accounts of my vehicles being tampered with.

Oh yes, I do cover my bike as well and the only problem I'm still having is cats clawing my seats.

Yo, YFX_R1, ... judging by your signature, if fear only comes after 285 km/h, then the ST1300 would be a more suitable ride over the RT :)

yeap think that's what coolcat was trying to convey.

the RT is 'slower' or reaches lesser max speed than the STX.

Hi

Make it a conscientious effort to cover the bike every night. Myself, i ride the bike every day, and since my 2B days, i always cover all my bikes before i sleep.

Once you are used to do this, you wouldn't think twice about not covering it.

hey,

initially found it a hassle to cover up my bikes every other day.. but after 4-6months, i think its routine for me to do so...

so yeah, i try to prevent itchy fingers or thefts from occuring by covering them up. 'it doesnt hurt until it happens on you' - i lost my whole side box on a previous uncovered bike. a H&B flash 40L with touring gloves, riding jacket, aerosols, metal conditioners all stolen. %!*@^!+#...

Nah, at BMW prices, that's probably just the cable, and they re-use the connectors also. :cheeky:

Called up the seller of the alarm. Supposed to include installation but on hearing it's a BMW, said shop no confidence to fix!

I thought being a naked bike it should be a lot easier than a Japanese fairing bike, but no, cash & carry only , sorry. :(

So I guess have to ask shop M again but they are always busy, especially on weekends.

I agree covering up the bike helps to a certain extent, and also keeps off dirt. But another problem for my bike, beside the hassle, is the cover can easily contact the exhaust pipe. I burnt big holes in my last cover. I think GS & R models will have this problem. But yeah, will try to make it a point to cover up.

Thinking back, why would a thief want to steal a bike logo? What can he do with it? Sell? Usually thieves will target cash cards or try to prise open boxes.

So I think this is likely a young punk, a student maybe, who wants to keep as souvenir or stick to the bag and show off to friends. I am considering whether to have a friendly chat with the principal too.

Well, will see how things go.

Sad also to hear one of you lost the whole box. A H&B somemore. I thought they are more secure than normal boxes. And how did he know which box you put your valuables? Did you just have 1 side box on?

All the more I should get the alarm installed ASAP. $100++ is a small price to pay for peace of mind. Cheers.

there are pad locks with alarm ...

basically it 'cries' when someone touches it ...

use it to lock the bike cover...

or the brake disc or the helmet etc ..

cost S$60/- uses calculator style batt ... no wiring, no worries of batt drain..

Can even be used at home if you need an additional lock

I ordered a BMW Summer 2 pants from a US retailer a few weeks ago and the pants came with a missing plastic belt clip. They resend the clip to me together with a very nice BMW Motorrad T-shirt by USPS. It cost them US$50 for resending a missing 50cents item. Very impressive kind of customer service :faint:

Hi hanwoon,

Good tips to get cats off our bikes, I have same problem damaged seat, cat urine on seat (must be marking its territory) & etc. The bike cover seem to be a nice home for them & tried Alan's of Perfection Mororcycle suggestion to put perfume on my K75 seat tested and its work until the perfume smell weaken but ha ha have to explain the perfume is to chase cats away & not otherwise.

Cheers, K75
