Seriously, the recent demise of some people I know also made me realised that the only thing that we can take away with us when we depart from this world is the experiences that we accumulate during our life. Cat

Clearly this forum is filled with people of my age group... haha... Wonder if anyone can help me. I used to ride a KLR650 more then 20 years ago, and was hoping to see such a bike again in Singapore.

I was advised that the owner of a KLR650, is an owner of a BMW bike, and is currently buying a second BMW bike.

Was hoping that if anyone knows this person, as I would really like to meet up with him and relieve a part of my history again.

Thanks in advance.

Wanted to go to my usual money changer in Orchard to change some money. But heavy traffic there so detoured to Great World City. Saw signs posted outside their underground carparks say no parking to motorcycles because of steep slope (what crap!).

While going round looking for place to park, saw at the hotel next to it rows of cars parking on double yellow lines. 2 bikes were park at the pedestrian walk, so decided to take a risk and park next to the bike. Change $ came back in less than 10 mins saw one guy in white standing next to my bike. Heart drop.

Ran to him but he said sorry, already key in bike number, cannot cancel. *$%

Somehow the 2 bikes have gone. But all the cars on double yellow lines he didn't touch but came straight for my bike. *$%

Didn't occur to me then but cannot cancel once key in no. is probably their standard excuse. What if he keyed something wrongly? Cannot change or cancel meh?

I have been very careful about roadside parking and haven't got ticket for about 2 years already. But once let guard down got caught by these money-sucking swindlers. *$%

An expensive mistake. Keep your guards up, guys.

I don't know what is happening to singapore's shopping centres. Seems like more and more are not catering to the riders need for parking, maybe they thought riders cant do loads of shopping because the lack of shopping carriage capacity.

Currypuff sir, have you tried to write an appeal to waive off your case? Explain your situation, it just might work. :)

Taking away the attendant's discretion prevents people from trying to persuade the attendant to change the decision. The decision on changing these then become centralised at HDB, URA, TP...

Overall I think that's a better system.

Simple economics explained by two factors:

1. LTA's Handbook on Vehicle Parking Provision in development proposals doesn't require a ratio of parking spaces for motorcycles for buildings. There is a minimum requirement for car spaces, for loading and unloading bays etc.

2. Parking rates are low and don't recover as much money compared to other use of the land. In new downtown developments, developers are allowed to provide 20% less parking space than the LTA guidelines, but have to pay a deficiency charge for providing less parking than the guideline. Some are happy to do so because they can earn more from using the land for other higher yielding purposes.

HI GUYS ! i just got a R1200GS. Is there anythings to look out for ? Any suggested bike shops ?

THANKS

Congrats on your purchase!

I also ride a 1200GS (2005 model).

You can get tons of accessories from M-Technic at Paya Ubi.

They carry Touratech and Wunderlich as well as many brands for the GS.

If you are interested in touring, you should join the BMW Motorcycle Club Singapore BMWMCS. Do a Google search for the web site.

We have about 200 BMW riders as members.

We do a lot of touring up north and local day rides across the border.

You can contact me at [email protected] if you need more info.

Ride safe - Dress for the fall not for the ride!

I know the feeling bro.

One evening when I was at the car park next to Wheelock Place and all the bike lots were full so I parked my GS on the sidewalk next to the bike lots and went for dinner.

I have seen lots of bikes parked there before in a row - all with no tickets.

Mine was the only bike there that that night.

Came back from dinner and KNN!!!!! Got a ticket with a $70 fine! @#$^%&^*&

Suay!

I guess luck has to do with it or maybe they only target big bikes.

You should sign up with the BMW Motorcycle Club SIngapore BMWMCS. We always ride in a group and everything is well organised and safety orientated.

I have ridden with the Beemer before and can say that that is true. generally quite fast too. Anyway, ... so what's the take on non-beemer club guys joining beemer club rides? I am curious, and I am sure that a few non-beemer guys are curious too.

If it's inconvenient for any reason to post a response do PM me. :)

Cheers

I think the F800 series are great; and likely to be good all rounders. I think that the F800GS is so much more usable than its big brother. Just my own thoughts. Check out the reviews, and make an informed decision. Which F800 are you thinking of getting?

Cheers

not a bad bike.

you need advice on what type of cost? machine price i think u already should have done your research. total + insurance about 32-33k.

if you are referring to servicing then i can tell you that its quite ok.. every bmw that is serviced at pml is not going to be cheap.

touring not a problem, city riding good enough w/o the side boxes.

offroad a little heavy, throttle play is snatchy, got to be careful. tires first on the list to change if off-road is seriously your type of terrain.

no 2nd hand 800gs to my knowledge although there are 1200s on garage sales.. :cheer:

F800GS is very handsome bike. Saw one battered FBD plate one at Looi :)

As with all new bike purchase, make sure you keep it for a while otherwise you will take a hit for depreciation.

yup, the 650gs is a detuned 800 engine. 71 hp with 91 RON, 73 hp with 95 RON petrol.

F800gs is 83hp with 91 RON and 85hp with 95 RON.

These bikes got the Electronic intake pipe injection/digital engine management system which varies the air fuel ratio depending on wad kinda fuel u put it. Quite handy if u tour to places like thailand, where sometimes you needa pump gasohol as gasoline is not available.

bro, u sure abt this?

I thought that gasoline is petrol; is it different? Hmmmm, I learn something everyday.
