Normal for my R1150 series. Older bikes the batt light may come on even at idling, cos the alternator is not feeding back enough to put it out when idling is low.

Cheers

Battery's health can be monitored by a voltmeter. Without a voltmeter, much more easier to diagnose if you have a often ridden bike, since likely the rider can discern between a better or poorer start. A dying battery will not be able to hold its charge, even when fully charged.

Go to see this guy at limbat.com.sg; he is somewhere on the forum and ask him to diagnose. He is passionate about his work.

Hi guys,

My GS1150 difficult to start in the morning and after it is left for more than approx.12 hrs in the open. Without the so called choke and a bit of throttle, it will just crank for a mere 3 sec before it sounded like the battery is dead. Turn off ignition and wait about a minute before i turn the ignition on again, pull the choke, throttle a bit and the engine roars to life. Is this normal? FYI, i just owned this bike for like 3 months and changed the battery once. Correct me if i'm wrong but I am sure or atleast i think it is not the battery's fault.

Currypuff: U dont have to follow the instructions exactly. As long as the valves clearance feel roughly the same, u are good to go. And this needs a lot of experience on the 'feel'. U will understand why after u opened up the cover and realise how little movement on the adjuster makes a whole lot of difference. Of course, it would be better if u have 4 single gauges to do the job. I can't get my hands on them in time and i make do with 2 sets of gauges.

Hey Coolcat!

Thanks for the reply! I am more concern about the damn symbol that keep coming up! Anyway, i did measure the voltage before. After a night, when i took the measurement, the battery voltage is around 12.38V. When i crank, it will fall to 9.5 plus before going back to 12.8 plus.. Should i just change the battery to have a more peaceful mind? :p

The post-airhead boxers do not have a conventional chassis like most bikes; essentially the (rear) sub-frame and the front "frame" are mounted onto the engine itself i.e. the engine itself is the load bearing component. Hence if there is a reference to "chassis" damage, it is technically correct if the "chassis" refers to the frame and in that sense PML may be right. Not taking sides here but just giving my own thoughts to it.

My guess is that given your description you will need to replace fairing brackets and the associated parts that are damaged. Hope that the "A" frame and the telelever are not damaged in any way, those are the bigger ticket items and damage on those will be indicative of more serious damage of the fairing bracket, fairing sections, forks etc.

Looks like your steed will be back on the road again :)

Cheers

I get what you mean. The description is right but their assessment is wrong. Its perfectly fine, untouch, and definitely NOT BEND.

My fairing brackets, crashbars, top clamp are damage. The 'A frame and telever are in perfect condition.

Can't wait to get it up and running again. Now waiting for parts as since PML don't support parallel importers except for one, so got to order the parts from overseas.

This is bullshite! you mean if you didn't buy your bike from them, you can't get parts from them! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are they really BMW dealers or what! this warrants a complain letter to the head office!

Another reason why i have not gone to them for parts before.

Hang on, PML now do not sell parts for bikes not being serviced by them? I thought that they still do. Well, no loss there really since parts are readily available from overseas. But PML is great for that odd oil-seal or gasket that may ground your bike for weeks.

Happy that you have a solution to your problem.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a 2nd hand K1200R or K1300R; although I think the K1300R is not possible cos it's too new.

Do let me know if anyone is selling theirs.

I used to think about those people who do adventures on BMW bikes. Those world travellers where they ride their bikes around the world.

After reading thru the postings.....

I guess if they were to be enroute in Singapore, and need some parts or servicing.

I assumed they will not get any service from the authorised agent as the bike are not bought nor serviced in Singapore.
