First of all, where, in Singapore, can you buy legally just the frame ?

Yes, as long as you are using OEM parts, and no modifications to the frame and engine

It is legal to re-engine a bike, ie. replace your stock engine with a similar one. But you cannot change the capacity of the engine and hope to register in a different vehicle class.

like that i have a issue..theres a fairing i like but is only for xr250 motard so i was thinking of maybe change the cc to 200cc or get a xr200 and use xr250 motard fairing but from what i research xr200 is smaller and i think that the fairing might not be suitable for it.

So beside the engine and frame other parts can be change?

first of all, is the frame from an old bike n is it registered? u'll have some complications if u chg the engine of a registered bike.

even if u find a frame(junkyard maybe), and build everything from scratch, u'll still hv to go thur the complicated process of regiserting n inspection.

if it's just fairing u want to change, by all means, do whatever u want, no restriction. the critical things i know u cannot touch r engine n exhaust. the rest can customize to ur liking, but if u want to be safe, go for another inspection.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

Its the fairing i want to change but the fairing is made specially for xr250 and not for xr200..even the company that produce the fairing cant confirm if it can fit on xr200

TS - not to burst your bubble, but your goal of building a bike to fit some nice shrouds sounds counter productive.

To swap a different engine onto a frame not designed for it is an extremely complicated project at best. Plenty of fabrication and careful alignment of engine mounts, drive/rear sprockets alignment, electrics, etc etc

And then there is the LTA factor. They will never allow such a custom bike to be registered. Of course you can choose to not let them know, but be prepared for the consequences if caught.

Read about a rider in http://www.advridercom who chopped off the rear subframe of his DR650 and grafted a DRZ item on it, simply because he liked the rear and side panels of the DRZ. Just read about it to see how much complications this project involved.

You may be better off simply getting the 250 then installing the shrouds. Trying to fix accessories to a bike not designed for it usually turns out rather ugly anyway.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator

How bout aftermarket rear swingarms? Make the rear wheel become further. Are those legal?

No. But if you swap similar looking items, you will be able to get away with it.

But no way will LTA allow for those squid looking extended drag bike swingarms to be installed, as it alters the handling characteristics of the bike.

i think it's more like shroud than a fairing, so it is a simple mod and you should be able to pass inspection. Whether it will look nice is another matter.

By looking nice, generally I mean it looks like it came from the factory

i would love to get xr250 which would solve lots of problem..if only 2b is 250cc

Not sure whats the different between shroud and fairing but i changing the whole faring from front to the end
