I rode to KL at the weekend; with my bike on 110-120 all the way, tipping the red 12k RPM, and hovering between 4 and 5 on the temp guage. All within a varaderos capability. Or so I thought. The handling was a bit wooly; when I crossed any paint on the road there was a noticable wobble and slight loss of grip.

When I got back to SGP, the rear tyre and wheel were almost too hot to touch. I couldnt get a pressure reading as the machine keep Err ing out - probably because the air in the tyre was too hot.

The rest of the bike is fine - hot where you would expect it to be. I pumped both tyres (Metzler Tourance) to 200 on Thursday.

Now with the hot tyre and wheel, it looks flat; but I assume it will lift again when the air cools.

Is it simply the engine heat blowing onto the wheel for four hours - it was pretty much riden on the red range for 4 hours. My top box was pretty heavy - maybe 10 kilos - but it didnt seem to be a problem on the way up. Nothing is touching or rubbing off the wheel.

Should I be concerned?

Juz to add on what Al_simmons have mentioned....when pumping a tyre...it is advisable to pump in near to maximum capacity....as air inside will be heated up when travelling...correct me if i am wrong...on your tyre wall there is a gauge of maximum psi need for maximum load...i believe it is 240kpi...so u pump 230kpi...leaving the 10kpi for air expansion...

 

For wobbly handling...it could be your top box breaking the wind...and tyres too...but if your bike is 3-4 years old...it might be steering cone...

 

Last but not least...check for any foreign object that stuck into your tyres...it might be the possibility...coz it is happened to me...3 "nails" stuck on the rear tyre....

depends how long your trip is lar.. and how long since u last serviced your bike?

if you're going to the road of bones from SGP then you would wanna service your bike.. if you're going to melaka and are within 5000km of your last service you should be ok..

 

me n wady went up to the afamosa exit on the NSH and then Ayer Keroh RnR on friday night just for fun.. trip was decided about an hour before we left.. 1am - 10am..

 

distance was ~450km with 2hrs 45mins being the longest leg of the journey..

It is indeed a Tourance tyre on the rear only. The pressure was 200; I will bump it up to 220. The tyre is punctured - I found a staple in it today. Looks like I rode it all the way from KL while punctured; hence the hot tyre and wheel.

I'll try and get it repaired tomorrow; I guess any motorcycle shop can do it? If anyone knows of a place near Changi Business Park please PM me. Otherwise I'll start googling now....

By the way guys, I'm currently experiencing some sort of a "drag" when I ride these days... Kinda like when I open throttle, the bike just doesn't seem to push off as smoothly as how it used to... Not sure if its time for servicing...but I just did it like say 1.5 months ago... This "drag" kinda took the fun out of riding.... (Perhaps 2A is beckoning me.....)
