Hi guys. New vara rider here. just got myself a 2ndhand varadero 125 2007. when i got the bike, mileage was only around 8k but its already more than 4 years old. I noticed that the tyres are slippery. They are Pirelli Scorpion Trails. From reading the posts in this thread, many are recommending these tyres.

Is it because the tyres were hardly used and the rubber got hard through the years? Should I change the tyres?

Would appreciate any responses.

Another question - my brake fluid reservoir looks a bit worn, anyone know if I can use reservoirs from different bikes on the vara? What other Honda bikes share the same reservoir? Anyone using one of those new shiny metallic ones? :)

If the tires are same age as the bike...better change. tires do harden after some time without much usage.

HI Guys .. Just checking , My vara (old model) yesterday, engine die at traffic light ... panic donno what to do..keep pressing start.. turn key, ...switch gear to n, ... . after a while .. flip the fuel to reserve. can start liow ... my trip meter only show 273 KM. ??? is this normal ? full tank pump is abt 25$$ ... i tot vara can go till 400 km ?

before die ... no lost of power, no jerking.. no symtoms ... just die.... did someone stole my fuel ? or leaking >???

Previous owner told me ..to be safe pump every 200KM? true ?

Maybe some fuel impurities or dirt in the tank? Doesn't matter, just note how many liters you need to pump to full tank next time and the KM done to that point - it should tell you what your consumption is.

Then you can compare against others on fuelly at the link below - worst FC for an old vara is 4.5L / 100km - which would still give you around 330km before reserve on a full tank.

I've been averaging 4.2L / 100km and my riding style is terrible for FC, always drag gears, rev high, etc.

What is pretty spectacular is the guys consistently getting 500km+ per tank on the newer FI varaderos.

my 2007 vara has a "low fuel indicator". it only lights up after 350km or so. and 2007 version onwards has a smaller tank as compared to yours. you should reset the trip meter and try again. and also ask the previous owner whether its normal.

Another Stupiak question : when u pump , do you put the nozzle all the way In .. till nozzle touch the tank middle ... or pump till few inches from the cap ...

Can i know is there still bike shops that sell 1st hand vara 125?

from an earlier post, someone said that boonsiew has no plans in bringing in new vara125s. you could call them and check. you could also check with mah motor/ looi's motor.
