Seriously?Wld be too heavy for e varadero...Go n install e seng kuang bracket...stainless steel...but abit ex...i put givi trekker on mine alrd quite a hassle to go in btw traffic...

Hi guys (and gals if any ride Vara?!),

 

I am still going through riding school (took forever 8 months since I started!) but finally passed lesson 8, so TP test will be in June. Will see how TP goes but I think it is the right time to look for a bike to buy soon...

 

I looked around and reckon Vara125 will be a good starting bike for me - I am tall 186sm so Vara size will be right. I don't need high speeding, but reliable, convenient, visible size for daily commuter (East to West Coast) are the main things for me.

Plus I prefer such Vara design versus street bikes or cruisers or sports.

 

Could you suggest where the main Honda shops, or any other garages which are specialized in Vara's? So I can go there to look and sit on the bikes as they always have at least one in stock.

 

I want to buy second hand, ideally 4-6 years, max 2 owners. Not pure cosmetic condition is ok but it should be riding well and fully operational.

Would 4-6k sing sounds right price range for such bike?

Just wonder whats the price for a new Vara125? Not that I am planning to buy it but just want to see depreciation per year..

 

Any other useful info to know:

- major changes of model (so must not buy a bike produced before certain year, as spare parts are a problem to find now),

- insurance cost (is it much higher for Vara vs other 2B bikes?),

- service garages,

- technical tips and typical problem points to check on the bike before passing the money

 

Thanks in advance for advice and hints. I will RTFF for more details but I will certainly have more questions later. So pls bear with me, we all started one day:-)

Good choice of bike, and good luck finding one.

 

There are no shops "specializing" in this relatively rare bike, and no shops that would hold it in stock (unless you get lucky and a shop has a used bike for resale). Every year a few private sellers will part with their Varas - that is your best chance but you need to lower your expectations.

 

2007 and later Varas (the FI model) were always pretty rare and are no longer imported into Singapore - they may no longer be in production as they seem to have disappeared from the 2014 Honda catalogues everywhere. Used - I haven't heard of one being available for sale in more than a year. Max 2 owners? Please forget about it. It's irrelevant and beggars can't be choosers. Price would highly depend on how much COE is left. Depreciation on old used Varas - (other than COE) is virtually zero.

 

To your other questions - there are 2 models, 2001-2007 and 2007 -2013, the latter has FI and a few minor cosmetic changes. Spares (mechanics) are easy to find for both models, but fairings, plastics etc will be harder to find and expensive. So don't drop it.

 

Insurance for the bike is extremely cheap, 3rd party only somewhere in the region of $200 per year, but no bike insurance is cheap for a new rider. $400-$500 depending on your age.

 

Several garages are quite experienced with servicing this bike - let's worry about it after you find one.

I hear your message about Vara125 is so rare and difficult to find... but Used Bikes for Sale section does show at least 5 Vara's "available".. I understand now that the guys probably never bothered to change the status to Sold or the bike has already changed the hands several times!

Selling mine, 04 model. Ten year COE renewed this year. Bike in prestine condition. top up $1500 plus carry on installment at $149/month for 2 year 8 months.

$700 comes to me but the $800 goes to AS Phoon for your 3 months installment downpayment and ownership transfer fee etc etc
