Let me start off by saying sorry if i posted in the wrong section because i cant find any section that i can ask and i unable to google the exact answer that im looking for so i turn to this forum for answer. I hope anyone out here can help me increase my knowledge..

So these headlights and tail lights on mostly old low cc motorcycles, which will get brighter when you rev up the engine, I presume they are not powered by a battery and is powered by a dynamo like system. Am i correct to say that? And what is it exactly called ah?

Personally i find them not really safe because when the bike idles at a stop light, the lights will get dim and reduces the visibility of us rider to the other motorist on the road.

Is there a way to make these lights get powered by the battery instead?

Lastly thank you for your time for reading and replying to this post. :cheeky:

i think 1 of the reasons why the lights are wired to dynamo instead of to battery directly is so that the bulbs do not drain the battery of power before the engine gets started. this is perhaps more of a concern for bikes with solely electric starter compared to those with kick starter option.

if you feel it's really important to not have the lights flicker during traffic light stops, then go ahead and re-wire the lights to ignition switch instead. i.e. when u turn on ignition switch, the lights will come on. need not wait until u start the engine. :good luck:

note that if u rewire all ur lights direct to ur battery, ur bike might not start on electric start.

i dont see it as a hazzard when u slow down n ur lights dim. if brightness is ur concern, then change to a higher watt bulb, but note that the heat dont burn out ur other things 1st.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i use to ride a scooter many..many years ago..

the brake lights have very short lifespan..

i believe very old bikes run at 6 volts...dynamo..no battery..

so please check the correct voltage...

eg..if a 12v bulb use on a 6 volt system...well the result is a dim light..if the oppossite you will end up with a fused bulb.

a change over to led lights could be the answer...

note..dynamo power supply do not used on leds....as the voltage fluctuation may have a aderse effect on your leds..powered by battery is of course is perfectly okay..

check your dc system first and determine what is on your bike before you begin conversion..
