I just bought my bike. I have this problem whenever i try to throttle more, my engines just gives this dying sound. the more i throttle the more it dies off.

It happened after a rainy day. but just 4 hours before that rain, and a month before that, my bike was running just fine. No problems whatsoever.

So suddenly, my bike gives me this problem. This is what I did before the problems came.

1)I start up the bike, and it goes to idle like normal.

2)I leave it to idle for a few minutes to let it warm up. occasional throttle blow abit. (not till high rpm and didnt drag)

3)sat on bike and engage first gear, move off.

4)moved off as usual but as i try to go to a comfortable rpm and speed before i change to gear 2. the bike dies. giving off the sound usually u get when u have too much oil and it dies. (dunno if anyone understands the too much oil part)

5)so then i mainstand the bike engage Neutral and start up bike. no problem starting. but nw when i try to blow throttle, it dies off. when mainstand, my bike tilts forward so the back wheel doesnt touch the ground. so with this freewheel i tried engaging gear 1, 2, 3 ,4. the engine doesnt die. except whenever i throttle it starts to give off that too much oil sound and begins to die. so ill just on throttle, engine begins to die, i off throttle and engine goes to normal idle rpm again.

with this problem, i cant even go on the road to move cos itll just die if i hold my throttle even for a few seconds.

before posting this i had asked around frm my friends, and they said my carb got water inside.

then i went home and asked my dad cos he got more experience, he even tested out the bike. he told me my bike doesnt have sufficient air compared to the oil so it begins to die. but my idling is at a normal range and its nt too high nor too low.and my air/fuel pin is at its stock adjustment.

but theres one more factor that might be the cause. my stock exhaust has a hole punched in it to give a hollow sound.( was like this when i bought the bike)

so my dad told me bcos of this hole, not enough air is compressed in my engine to give power to the bike. thats why it tends to die and eventually more oil than air is inside.

so if anyone in this forum who knows of this problem or the solutions, please help me! If my problem is confusing or needs more clarification, please ask and ill try my best to answer.

Bro, check your air filter whether it is clogged. Its because i ever put like more air filter sponge into my air filter, and i got the exact same problem. I think what your dad say is true. So i recommend you take out your air filter, check and clean it. I ever before my air filter was slightly wet, then when open big throttle very fast, got the dying sound, must faster close and slowly open again.

And yes, i understand the too much oil part. I also got try to put alot of oil into my engine. The feeling is like bike kenna "strangled and choked". :)

I don't think a drilled exhaust will give you problems like you described. The bike is either starving for air or fuel. Look at the tail end of your exhaust (inside), is it very black, with lots of black powdery deposits? Or is it very clean?

Do you know how to remove the spark plugs? Remove them and see if you can take a picture and post here. That will give us a clue as to where to start hunting down the problem.

If air starvation: check air filter, and nothing is blocking the intake path. Also check that there are no exhaust leaks at the exhaust manifold, although I don't think leaks will cause your engine to die.

If fuel starvation: could be clogged fuel strainer, pinched or clogged fuel hose, clogged carburettor jets, float height set wrongly, or maybe even choke cable is being permanently pulled out (not fixed properly).

Identify the symptoms first by looking at the plugs, so you roughly know which is more likely.

alright guys! thanks alot! i went to my mech to rectify the problem. he took out my carb and cleaned it. it was true that there was some clogging. he used air to remove the clogs and now my bike can run smoothly again. as for my spark plug, i only got a quick glance at it when my mech took it out and see. he didnt change the plug though and just put it in. i assumed he thinks its still alright. i do have some pictures of spark plugs that may look like how mine was but i dont knw hw to attach pics to my post. so sorry. but if i can describe it in words. then it wud be a very dark brown.

Both look different. One looks lean, one looks carbon fouled.

oh yeah. cos from the whole chart of pictures only these two has colour covering till the side of the spark plug. but i think its more to the darker one. so it should more likely to be carbon fouled. so what does this mean?

oh and one more thing too. after the service. i didnt go home straight but instead i rushed to somewhere else. i used the expressway and maybe travelled for around 20km. i was rushing so i travelled at 110-120km/h. but somewhere along that 30km, i noticed suddenly the engine light is on. u know the light that has that kettle picture near the speedometer and stuff? it wasnt on when i just started the bike and moved off from the workshop.

i asked my friend abt it and he said my engine oil is low. but that couldnt be since ive just changed like lest than a month before. unless theres something else going on. any other possibilities?

and it only lighted up when i travelled long distances at high speed. if i maintain at 90-100 it doesnt light up.

maybe i should just save my money and do a full service + prepare for overhaul? lol i know i make it sound so bad. but i dont actually know a good shop.

i only know of unique just bcos they display their rates on the forum. any other workshops u guys can recommend?

i mean those have mech that specialise with spark/x1-r? cos i used to go to a shop where they mostly service big bikes. ( cos i followed my r6 friend there)

i hope its not too much to ask, thanks for your help guys!

Glad you got it figured out. So the bike was not running rich, but was actually starved for fuel.

i think it is the opposite...

when this keetle (actuslly image is an engine) lights up it means insufficent hydraulic pressure to lubricate engine..

check your eo level and confirm there is enough oil...

if ok...other issues here..bad seal could be one..or a simple case of faulty pressure sensor..

do not ride...until you get it sorted out..imho.

change bike sua... lol....

haha alot of my close friends say so too. i actually found a forum thread here that showed the new first hand prices for most bikes otr now. but i couldnt find the thread back. i only rmb that a x1-r first hand machine plus coe is below 3.7k to 4k. thats cheap, compared to my machine which is second hand and giving me problems. LOL. anyone here came by that thread before i think its title is somewhere around new prices or revised prices. hmmm... if i could find maybe ill reconsider trading in mine for a first hand x1-r . haha

ok thers one more thing i found out and maybe cos the prob too.

but i have to ask the x1-r'ers out ther: have you guys seen your airbox before? i mean open it up.

when my mech opened it, theres this tunnel leading to the carburator. is that tunnel suppose to be emtpy or is there supposed to be an air filter there? cos i cant find my air filter anywhere. gosh..

Do you mean the oil pressure light? If that lights up and you continue riding at high speeds, you'll destroy the engine. Get it checked out. It could be insufficient oil, or it could be the oil pump needs replacing or some oil passage somewhere is clogged up.

No lubrication = very bad news.

could be....the opposite has the same effect...

a flooded carb will be sending liquid petrol into the intake not a gas mixture...killing engine when you throttle..

thus cleaning carb ..float and the float valve will sort this out..

That one is coolant temperature warning light. Don't listen to others. Read your manual.

Check your coolant level or get your radiator flush out.

Now COE is expensive. No more below 4k liao... :faint:

Yes, it's supposed to have an air filter. If no air filter, every now and then you will have to wash your carb. Your engine wear and tear rate will also be faster. Not recommended.

You can go down to CHong Aik to buy one air filter for SGD9 and fix it back yourself.

ok ill try to go to chong aik and get an air filter. and we'll see what happens from there. (:

for spark and x1r, instead of low engine oil, it means temperature warning. Ironic... :faint:
