Cnfused on Inspection,Insurance,road tax due date/renewal...pls help

Hi guys,

 

Need ur constructive help in the above dates.

 

This is my 1st bike, n this is the very 1st time i have to send my bike for inspection.

 

I noe pple will say, just send to my mechanic can already. But my bike last servicing is 2 wks ago, all very good, if send to mechanic is like u pay xtra money for their service which i tink i could do myself. I’m the kind of hands on person lah.

 

Basically here’s all my expiry /date due date

 

1. Insurance : 17 march 2011

2. Road tax: 11 March 2011

3. Received a letter to be inspected by 11 March 2011-02-09

4. My COE ends 30 September 2012

 

Here’s my questions, assuming tat i want to settle the above by myself..sorry guys ifs too loong

 

1.When is the latest date tat i go for inspection? Is it on the 10 march or 11 march??

 

2.How long in advance that i must “make appointment “ at the inspection centre??

 

3.Pls correct me if i’m wrng, i need a valid insurance and pass inspection to renew road tax rite?

 

4.If yes to Q4, do i need to renew my insurance 1st since i am left wif only 7 days, assuming i pass inspection on 10 march? Or no need to renew insurance first tat is valid for anorther 1 year?

 

5.As this would be my first time inspection, and reading from other post here n there, i want to confirm that i have to go for “payment” counter 1st?? Den follow by “inspection” lastly, if pass, i can den renew my road tax?? Is there any other thing tat i need to bring.

 

6.Last 1, say i want to renew my COE and want to let my mechanic does it together wif my servicing, when is the earliest that i can renew my COE??i just check thru the website n they say its nt yet due for renewal. was thinking for renewing when price is on the downside

1) I think 11 March you can go, but better go earlier ah.

 

2) Just ride into the centre, pay money, show receipt to the inspector and he will check your bike.

 

3) Yes. Renew your insurance first. Then get inspected. Then road tax is the last.

 

4) You need to renew your insurance to cover the period of road tax you wanna apply for. Eg: Insurance only Sep 2011. But you wanna renew until Dec 2011, you need to extend your insurance to meet your road tax. I hope you get this part.

 

5) Yes. Remember to bring your insurance certificate. Pay first. Inspect. Pay road tax. If got the road tax reminder, bring it. If not the lady will be angry with you. Happened to me before.

 

6) When its due for renewal, then you can go and renew. You wanna renew early, i really dont know about this. Others can help you but i was taught when its the time to renew, go and renew or sell the bike. Don't do it early because you will like forfeit the 2 years of COE(if you want to renew 2 years earlier) I am not sure about this though.

dont wait until last moment..if inspection fails..and need retest...woah..

go in feb...as this is your first..renew your insurance first..

bring all doc..just visit the inspection centre..q to pay..then q to have bike inspected..

pass then pay road tax,..

 

dont worry too much..

 

they check..brakes , lights and horn...make sure all working..

and a exhast gas check..

if sock bike then no issues..

remove all tapes that is holding your bike together for any reason...they are instructed to look out for these masking/elec tapes..

Last date 11 March

No appointment is require, just walk-in

Yes, u need a valid insurance to cover ur new road tax period. For inspection as it only require once a year, u need to know when ex-owner d the inspection or u may refer to the road tax renewer notice letter, wheather inspection is require or not to renew road tax.

"OPTION"

 

1. Send for inspection 1st.

If Fail. repair ur bike until u Passed

Go insurance company renew ur insurance n road tax together.

Bring along ur inspection cert.

 

2. Buy insurance 1st.

U need to cover the new road tax period.

Go inspection, If Fail. repair ur bike until u Passed than renew road tax in inspection center.

Bring along ur insurance cert.

U can renew ur COE anytime(working hour) at LTA...The earliest u can renew ur COE is the next working day after u renewed ur COE....as long u got $$$$$

b4 going inspection, make sure u take out all ur diy lights, leds, etc. make everything as stock as possible. any spoilt signal, headlamp, horn, etc, get it fixed.

>>> by 11 march means u need to pass BEFORE 11 march, so go now or anytime u're ready.

>>> although they say appointment, but not really necessary, anytime u're free when they open, just ride down. however if there's a crowd (rarely), u need to Q.

>>> as above, u need to pass before 11 march, insurance can get on the spot (cover letter). since ur date is so close, after u pass inspection, anytime can go do ur insurance n tax together. can also give bike shop do (for a fee), provided u give them ur pass inspection cert. dont do everything on 10 march, it's too close for comfort.

>>> u just follow the signboard to the bike inspection corner, park at 1 corner, the staff there will ask u proceed to payment counter. bring ur letter n license.

the inspection is pretty easy, just ride ur bike in the ramp and follow instruction.

>>> not sure the eligable period, but ur's seems eligable for renewal. (unless it was renewed for 5yrs before, then u cant renew anymore) best check with LTA.

note that COE cant carry forward, so if u renew for 10yr now, it's counting 10yr from now, u lose the period left of previous COE.

doesn't make sence or u can get insurance without inspection. think about it, if ur bike somehow not fit to be on the road and fail inspection, will insurance still cover u?

 

btw, i went inspection without insurance renewed, during inspection, they don't need to see ur insurance papers.

road tax cant be renewd at the inspection center. if i'm not wrong, u need to go lta or can renew online.

unless ur insurance expire before ur inspection period, u need to renew insurance 1st. the usual way is pro rate the insurance to the road tax expiry period n do both together, however in TS's case not necessary since they are close.

not necessary or up to preference. had a friend who chose to do at each expiry.

gone to STA at ayer rajah....at 1st scared bout my exhaust too much smoke...pretty easy, just pay n the Inspector will do the rest for u..only 2 pple in the line only...

 

but the inspector did say dis, translated to eng " ur pipe u make hole(tebok) rite"..i say no ah just bought last march, nver open up exhaust pipe b4....den he say just becareful if TP or LTA catch, fine $500..

 

but seriusly, when i bought the bike its already tat sound..i only "disturb" the exterior..

 

well as long as pass inspection can already.

good, but u might want to take advise of the inspector n fix that. he gave u chance doesnt mean tp might.
