Hi I really need help and advice from riders/experts,

I bought a Yamaha RX-S. FD XXXX plate number.

Its a really old bike.

I always have problems starting my bike in the early morning or at night.

I've learned that when the engine is cold it takes longer to start.

But i took like 30 kicks to start the bike.

As its an old bike, its not electric start, only can kick start.

It takes me super long to really start the bike. I've tried opening the throttle, pulling out the choke, I also changed a new carbureator.

Please advise me whether what more could I do to start my bike more easily.

Thanks alot!

Could it be the magnetic coil? Same thing happened to my bike bro. Can take 15 mins to kick, totally cannot kick. But pushstart can. Change the coil and presto! Starts in 1 kick.

Could it be your technique? You have to find out if the "choke" on your carb is actually a "choke" or an "enricher".

If it's a choke, you pull it open and you open your throttle as you kick.

If it's an enricher, you pull it open and you don't touch your throttle as you kick. Opening your throttle with the enricher open will flood the carb.

Does the carb have an accelerator pump? If it does, repeated opening of throttle will flood the carb, again no start.

If you suspect the carbs could be flooded, turn the fuel to off, turn the throttle full open, then kick.

Since it's an old bike, the compression might be low. Low compression = difficult starting.

Weak spark also = difficult starting. Faulty ignition timing also = hard starting.

Next time try just pulling out the "choke" cable, don't touch the throttle, and just kick.

If you feel these things are too difficult, bring it to a mechanic for troubleshooting. Ah Chong (Planet) is pretty good at this kinda stuff.

My favourite trick to start naughty bikes is to kick the bike for a few cycles before turning the ignition on. I dunno why, it usually works.
