Today is the start of the ride. All nine (less the Frenchman, Steph) were at the airport on time. Alan (spectrum) was there to send us off for the trip.

Day 2 – 04/03/2011

 

Today will be the first day for our ride to Mai Chou. Woke up @ 5.30am (All timing in this report will be viet time). Had Breakfast @ 7am and gathered at the Bike Tour shop. Load all the saddle bags and prepare all equipment like GoPro camera, GPS, cameras….this morning was a wet day…..all was ready and the journey starts @ 9am. We travelled 170km today……

Day 3 – 05/03/2011

 

Wow had a good nite sleep after laughing all nite While Ben was dancing…weather was cooling too….Okay today is the second day of riding and we will be riding to Bac Yen – 157km…..was told that we may go off road today….was so kan chiong about it till Tony and Steph chiong in front and missed a turn….waited about ½ hour and no sign of them so we decided to skip the off road and head out the main road to look for the two missing dudes….along the way the scene was misty so I took a short off road ride to fill my desire for one…

Day 4 – 6/3/2011

 

Today will be travelling about 183km to a place called Tuan Giao. Woke up at 5am…pack, washed up and had breakfast @ 7am…left at 820am. Reached Son La at 12pm and had our lunch….then left at 1 plus to go see the muzium but close lar (their lunch time) and can only see the place from some gaps on the walls…no choice but left and then it all begun….YES OFF ROAD for 40 plus km…few drops by the minsks and some clutch problem also on the minsk….however, with only a sore wrist from Allen after the fall, all others was well and we arrive the hotel at 530pm

Day 5 – 7/3/2011

 

Today we will be riding to Sin Ho. Woke up at 5am and had BF at 630am. Supposed to leave early but it had to happen….one of the minsk just refused to wake up from its beauty sleep…..Mechanic had to do his stuff and we managed to leave at 820am….heard that today’s ride will be mainly unpaved road as there are a lot of construction works going on……two falls along the way but no injuries at all……arrived Sin Ho at 4pm after travelling 160km….

This was indeed a relief to see this milestone after more than 100km riding on unpaved road

Day 6 & 7 – 8/3/2011 & 9/3/2011

 

This morning the original plan was to go to Tam Duong but due to the short distance to travel, it was changed to ride to Sapa and stay there for 2 nites. Woke up @ 630am and had breakfast and relax more and only left Sin Ho @ 0930hrs. The temp this morning was 12.3deg C. Had lunch @ Lai Chau @ 12pm. Had some time and the guys played snooker. Our guide fell during the ride to Sapa when the road were wet and slippery. It was also misty and some of us had problem as we wore glasses and it kept misting up. The temp on the way droped in the hills to 6.7 deg C and when we arrived at Sapa @ 3.45pm the temp was 9.2 deg C.Dinner was @ 730pm and hence we went shopping for the North Face jackets. Bot for myself 1 for USD40 and my wife’s was USD30. They were comfortable as the weather was real cold. We stayed two nites at Sapa

Day 8 – 10/3/2011

 

The end of the long ride is ending soon. Today will be the last ride to another place before we head back to Hanoi……so today’s ride will be 222km to Thac Ba…the best part is we headed towards the China border at Lai Chao…BF was @ 7am and we left the hotel at 8am….arrived at the border at 10am and took some pix…..visibilty before we arrived the border was about 5m…..todays stay is at the Homestay…..oh our lunch was at another homestay with a little off road to the place…cool man…..We arrived the Homestay at Thac Ba which is beside the lake,,,nice,,,,,

Day 9 – 11/3/2011

 

Woke up this morning at 6am and had the BF of Pancake and manjo…some has magi mee…At last, today we will be heading back to Hanoi – 171km..we left at 8am….slow ride along the trunk roads and had lunch at 1pm and then headed thru some small roads at the padi fields…..the mechanic today was a little unlucky and hit a buffalo along the way…clutch broke and had to ride without the clutch..the guide Turn was just great and managed to ride without the clutch even in the Hanoi traffic jam…kudos to him. Arrived at Hanoi at 1530hrs……END OF RIDING in Vietnam
