Odour is caused by bacteria and fungus growing in the moist inner liner.

Do two things. Dry it in the sun regularly... the sun kills germs. And spray it with something like Lysol disinfectant spray to kill the bacteria and fungus in the liner.

I do mine weekly. No stink, or itchy head.

How long do you leave it in the sun for?

Was told that I can put my helmet in the washing machine with lots of soap powder. Not sure if it'll work

I wear a balaclava nowadays, it solves the problem for me.

Your 'bah wu' so powerful?

Anyway I still remove the lining to wash, just that I don't have to do it that often now. Used to be a weekly affair.

Sometimes even after washing, the helmet stinks back very fast.

I have managed to find out the source of the stink in my MHR / GPR helmets. Amazing salty fish.

It's no the cool-max lining, but rather a tiny part of nylon-like mesh being sewed on the lining. That mesh is to give more air-flow at that area, while aligned with the vents in the helmet. Usually at the front of the forehead.

Cut it out without regrets.

How to keep odour free:-

1) i usually dun keep my helmet overnight in my bike rear box.

2) Took out the padding to wash once a week or sometimes biweekly.

3) I also rinse the helmet front air intake with hot water when I wash my paddings.

4) Occassionally if I lazy to remove padding & inside padding is sweaty - I'll use hair drier to blow hot air to dry it instead of allowing it to dry naturally.
