Hi Guys,

Was wondering if it is abit too exaggerating to wear a one piece full leather suit for my trip up to Malyasia. because i only have a racing suit and don't wish to spend extra money if possible!

Your comments are greatly appreciated :)

Leather might be indeed a bit too hot, especially if you ride all day. But if that's all you got in terms of protective gear, I say go for it. Maybe wear those dry fit / coolmax t-shirts and short underneath to help with the heat.

And if you really enjoy riding in MY, then you'll invest bit by bit in lighter protective gear.

Let us know how it went

Leather suit for riding in day time for touring ?

I would not recommend it bro.. even with goretex breathable jacket, it's pretty hot and sweaty for day riding on NSHW.

Worse once you step into town (melaka, KL, etc)

and excessive sweating will dehydrate your body and could faint while riding.

and once you reach destination for food / shopping, will it be convenient to walk around with leather suit ?

Leather provides best armor against tarmac but not friendly to SG / MY heat.

driving center elbow / knee pads are useless as per personal experience.

when i was taking 2A, had a fall during e-brake (go too fast and jammed brakes)

1. elbow guard does not stay in place and.. pushed up till armpit left my elbow with road rash.

2. knee guard stayed in place but not enough cushion / absorb the impact, still left swollen knee from impact.

and i wore them as per instructor said, slided into elastic bands, not just using velco from outside.

so if you depend on such items for road trip protection, :goodluck:

Falling with any type of armored guards will always leave bruises or swollen maks I'm afraid :weep:

Agree dehydration need to be prevented -> drink a lot !

Tim, What did you end up going with ?

I think Jeans boots and a Jacket are a good start if you don;t wanna cook under your racing suit.

Full leather suit definitely no go. You will be cook inside the suit. As per Kmax said, if you go inside Melaka or any of the town and kampung area where your traveling is restricted to below kph, you will not have a good ride. Even i was riding mesh jacket, i am already perspiring profusely.

Alright O'Ren :)

I'll be just wearing the pants and boots with a t-shirt? unless the sun is scorching hot then i'll wear my gotex jacket.

Do you think it's okay?

Hi tim

It's somewhat puzzling to me that you obviously take riding seriously enough to invest in a full leather suit, yet hesitate on adequate protection for everyday riding here.

There are tons of good gears in Sg shops that cater for our kind of weather that allow free flow of air and armor protection. It really is worth the money & habit to don these. The greatest hassle is that you need some form of storage to safely stash them away at the office or mall.

My everyday gear include full face helmet, mesh jacket with elbow, shoulder armor & back protector, leather boots, mesh/leather gloves & ear plugs for the street. Track days is where the heavy duty stuff comes out.

Please ride safe and dress safe for the ride.

I have mates that only ride in full leathers in M'sia. Vented leathers are fine on the highway and faster roads...bit of a pain in towns , and complete pain in heavy traffic like JB. I use mesh jackets and pants or full leathers, depending on my trip/which bike I take.
