Hi Guys

Just gotten my SWT from Bike production after 3months plus of long wait, got a number of questions which need some answer from the experts.

1) Tyre pressure, do I follow what is stated 29F and 33B w/o pillion and 29F and 36B w/ pillion?

2) What is the servicing routine like? (Oil change, oil seal, belting etc)

3) Which workshop is recommended for servicing?

4) Is there a huge difference if I change my exhaust?

Sorry for the number of questions, scooter noobie.

Thank you in advance!!!

Cheers!

Some Tips for Convenience

Some of the things we do regularly when riding/driving in Singapore (apart from looking for parking and paying fines) are refuelling and paying ERP.

ERP?

If you're among those who tends to forget slotting in a cash card into the IU, or forgets to top up the cash card when passing ERP gantries, or forgets to remove the cash card from IU before leaving the bike and returning to find it's gone, etc. you may wanna consider paying a small amount for some convenience and never be worried about passing ERP gantries with empty IU again.

Refuelling? Purchases?

You've topped up petrol and ready to go inside the station to make payment, but the queue is super long, or oops, forgot to bring wallet. Make things more "better", it's raining and you're dripping wet in your rain gear (inside dry lah). Ever wished that you could simply ride off having the payment already settled? Want to buy some things from the Fairprice Xpress or Cheers stores inside the petrol stations, but forgot to bring wallet?

Speedpass comes in handy in such sitations ... that's if you pump ExxonMobil fuels :p

Virtual CashCard (vCashCard)

See Nets' webpage for more information

https://vcashcard.nets.com.sg/

LTA News Release on 28 May 2015

http://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=86cb267e-fec0-4352-a7da-e6e8bc87f841

From 28 May, motorists can sign up for vCashCard, a new service that allows motorists to pay for their ERP charges using their credit/debit cards or via their bank account without the need for a physical stored-value card. This service is provided by NETS, in partnership with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and United Overseas Bank (UOB). Motorists who sign up for vCashCard using their UOB credit card will have their top-up fees waived for the first year.

Motorists can register for a vCashCard account via the NETS website at vcashcard.nets.com.sg.

How does it work?

* Motorists register for a vCashCard account via the NETS website at vcashcard.nets.com.sg.

* Upon successful registration, the vCashCard account will be topped-up with $50 from the registered credit/debit card or bank account. The ERP charges incurred will be deducted directly from the vCashCard account.

* The vCashCard account will automatically be topped up with $50 whenever the amount in the vCashCard account falls below $10.

Benefits

* No admin fees

* Free registration

* Free top-ups with UOB credit cards

The first phase of vCashCard allows motorists to use the service for ERP charges. NETS will launch Phase 2 of this service, in which vCashCard will be extended to car park payments, later this year.

I have started to use the vCashCard, so far so good. Now waiting for it to become usable for electronic parking systems.

Below is a sample of online statement:

http://i692.photobucket.com/albums/vv287/josephsbs/Silverwing/vCashCard_01_zpsfhdokhw7.png

https://sg.news.yahoo.com/virtual-cashcard-launch-banish-erp-042305208.html?linkId=14484846

Singapore motorists can soon kiss their ERP troubles goodbye, with a new virtual CashCard that is set to be available from Thursday (28 May).

According to The Straits Times, the vCashCard was created through a collaboration between NETS and the Land Transport Authority (LTA), and it will make things much easier for motorists: even if a CashCard is low on cash or absent in the in-vehicle unit (IU), users will be able to pay ERP charges without facing penalties or additional administrative charges.

IMO, the vCashCard is more attractive than MotorPay which started in 2008.

Advantages of the new virtual "wallet" over MotorPay:

(a) Motorists can use their debit cards or bank accounts, apart from credit cards. MotorPay accepts only credit cards. Although credit cards are easily available/granted nowadays, not all motorists possess credit cards.

(b) Automatic top-up fee is at S$0.50 per top up. Unless a motorist pays >S$100 of ERP a month (requiring 2x top ups), this top up fee is lower than S$1.07 which MotorPay charges.

© Can be used to pay parking charges at car parks using electronic carpark systems, schedule from end 2015. MotorPay can only be used for ERP.

MotorPay

topbnr_sub.jpg

http://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=2031

http://www.motorpay.com.sg

~ works with many major credit cards, including DBS, OCBC, Citibank, etc.

A more convenient way to pay your ERP charges

With MotorPay, now you can enjoy the ease of paying your ERP charges through your credit card. Simply drive through any ERP gantry and your ERP charges will be automatically charged to your credit card, hassle-free! You can even view your ERP transactions and usage by going online.

If only Motorpay can include their coverage/services to include ERP Parking systems, that would be a real game winner.

Speedpass by ExxonMobil

~ Speedpass works with credit cards from other banks as well, no necessarily DBS Esso Mastercard (although it claims to give the best discount at ExxonMobil stations).

Welcome to Speedpass. No cash, no cards and no queues! An advanced cashless and cardless payment system. It’s quick and easy to use – just point your Speedpass key tag at the pump, fuel up and go. You can also purchase convenience store items with Speedpass by pointing it at the sensor at the cashier counter.

have a question about Hagon vs Bitubo,

I know alot of Swingers use Hagon, anyone uses Bitubo?

Nowadays Hagon comes in chrome springs?

Just to be sure, the shocks can be used for all models of silverwing ya 400/600 01-14

Posted

so far, very few kakis use Bitubo... too costly for the extra benefit, Hagon is more value for money

chrome springs may not be available for SW (type M), but can always write in to request... or customise.

i ever wrote to Hagon USA to shorten the shocks by about 5cm, reply is cannot... grrr, but their webbie says can wor o_O

You may also wish to email to their HK distributor for quotation. His name is Chin Leo, email is ([email protected]). I've got mine from him in Feb this year. Delivery took around 1 week to arrive my place.

Hello SW community.

I have a weird issue and see feedback/comment in case it happened to some of you before:

My headlight sometimes doesn't stay on (while riding). It is supposed to stay on at all time since there is no switch to turn it off on the SW400.

It might be ON (or not) after I start bike and it also might also go OFF (or ON) while riding... It's dangerous because I have no way to figure out when this happens and whether my light is ON or OFF (during day time/end of day), this could lead to dangerous situation where I am not effectively seen by other drivers.

Of course at night or in a basement parking lot I can easily figure it out, but it's annoying. I have to always keep try to find ways to check whether it's ON or OFF by approaching close the rear of the car in front of me (at a red light for example).

I noticed that when I fiddle lightly with the START switch, this could actually trigger ON or OFF the light... So I am wondering if replacing the START switch might solve the problem or whether I should look at some other electrical component. Something is definitely wrong at the moment the bike is started...

Any help/assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Some feedbacks on the Hagon shocks if anyone is interested.

After install, notice that the distance between rear tires to the floor is shortened.

But once i sat on it. Wow!

The handling definitely improved alot and you dun feel so much swinging up and down as you travel, cross humps.

Shipping is damn fast by wemotor as recommended by scooby.

Last wed ordered, tues I got it.

For anyone who is thinking, go for it. :)

Once again thanks for the information scoobydoo.

It is a simple process. I got this barkbuster handguard from a friend. Removed the balancers and install the guards just like any balancers. No mod need. That simple. :)

Adjusting the Parking Brake

A fellow SWinger in USA has done an excellent job... all credits to swf_admin of silverwing.org

I've "re-positioned" his post for easy reference, for those who might need to adjust the "tension" of their parking brakes when it no longer bite well, or too bitey.

Personally, I would recommend Method 2 ... a bit more troublesome but probably more accurate :p

The handbrake should have about 3 to 6 clicks in correct adjustment. If it has more or has been sticking on, try this re-adjustment procedure.

You need to be able to spin the rear wheel so I used a bike lifter to raise it off the ground. If you do not have one, try to put the bike on its centre stand on a block of wood so it can be lifted at the rear to spin the wheel.

The lifter must only support the small area under the centre stand. Beware the exhaust pipe is easily caught by the lifter and could damage it.

http://silverwing.org/mwf/attach/24/24/swlift.thb.jpg

Honda state you should take the handbrake off the pull it up once notch to adjust the rear screw. I couldn't get this method to work as it was difficult to find the first notch and I couldn't tighten the centre screw hard enough to push the brake pads on to the disc. So I have listed both methods.

Method 1.

With handbrake on one notch, loosen the lock nut with 12mm spanner (normal anti-clockwise direction)

Turn the adjust bolt until you feel resistance when you turn the rear wheel with your hand.

Hold the adjust bolt while you tighten the lock nut (I could do this without the adjust bolt also tightening with the lock nut).

Release the hand brake so it is fully off.

Check the wheel runs freely.

Put the hand brake on, should be 3 to 6 notches.

Check rear wheel can't turn.

Release handbrake.

Repeat procedure if incorrectly adjusted.

Method 2.

With handbrake fully off, loosen the lock nut with 12mm spanner (normal anti-clockwise direction)

http://silverwing.org/mwf/attach/25/25/swhbon.thb.jpg

Rear right of bike under exhaust muffler. Lock nut and adjust bolt connected to cable and spring. 12mm spanner required.

http://silverwing.org/mwf/attach/26/26/swhbnut.thb.jpg

Loosen lock nut.

http://silverwing.org/mwf/attach/27/27/swhb12mm.thb.jpg

Beware not to loosen the nut too much as the cable lever will come off its support nut, as shown below (I've loosened it completely to show construction) :-

http://silverwing.org/mwf/attach/31/31/swhbnote.thb.jpg

Turn the adjust bolt with your fingers until you can't tighten it anymore.

http://silverwing.org/mwf/attach/30/30/swhbloosen.thb.jpg

Tighten the lock nut (the adjust bolt will also tightening with the lock nut).

Check the wheel runs freely.

Put the hand brake on, should be 3 to 6 notches.

Check rear wheel can't turn.

Release handbrake.

Repeat procedure if incorrectly adjusted.

cheers

Checking the SW's Steering Cone

How to check your steering cone?

* leng leng loose feeling while riding

* bike steers to one side when moving hands free... strongly not advisable

* when turning (bike leans over on turning side), you can feel as if there's a force pulling your steering towards the same direction you turn the handlebar

* for very serious case... when braking using only front brake (especially straight ahead), can feel a small "jut" at the steering cone (as wheel comes inward)

can try this DIY test...

(a) put bike on main stand

(b) jack the bike's front up such that front tyre leaves floor, or

. . . get someone heavy to push down the rear so that front wheel lifts up,

. . . then put something strong/sturdy with just sufficient height to hold

. . . bike's front up such that front tyre leaves floor

© hold the 2 forks at front (aligned straight ahead) and try to move them in-n-out (along the bike's fore and aft) by pushing and pulling gently, feel if the fork is loose

~~ if cone is OK, forks shouldn't feel loose or move along the gentle push/pull action, movements means steering cone needs servicing

(d) gently turn the forks left and right, feel if there's any special feedback

~~ if can feel some restriction to turn, or the turning seems to stop a a certain angle (probably caused by a groove), means steering cone needs servicing

Notes:

if slightly loose, can tighten; if very loose, gotta change whole thing

Some Symptoms?

if you turn your handlebar left to right, you will feel that there's like a gap feeling when your handlebar is straight pointing the front... No need to turn that hard and fast... do it slowly and you will feel it if your steering cone is spoil...

That time i also thought that my steering cone spoil... but after some check, its actually the tyre that is just abit out of shape and causes my turning to be wobbling...

Got my tyre replace and everything is fine now:cheeky:

Hi all..

I've been experiencing some knocking sounds suspected coming from the front wheel area while moving off. I cant feel it when riding at normal speed but when i slow down, can hear and feel the knocking sound again. What could be the problem?? Did any of u exrerience the same things with your Wings??

maybe you wanna check your steering cone bearing ?

How much to change the steering cone?

Yep, replacing of cone bearing is a pretty tedious job. Just replacing my steering cone and bearing for 120 last month.

On the way back from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal decided to drop by ACM. Got a quote from The Man for steering cone bearing and fork service for $260. Will be goin there tmrw at ard noon to get it done. Anyone tagging along?

"Repairing" the SWT Fuel Cover Spring

Thank you sifus for showing me the pix and also directing to the tech corner.

Really good stuffs and lots of hard work to maintain it.

Instead of ordering the replacement I fabricated the broken piece by using a strong wire.

Seems to work pretty well.
