Is there any significant pay or career difference for degree vs diploma in safety? Some advice from RSO is that with a safety degree you can conduct lectures for safety where a diploma cant, Any other such encounters/experience?

Actually I dunno leh. I only specialist diploma in WSH, not degree. So whether pay will be higher if got degree, I dunno. But I don't think so if the job is WSH Officer. Advertisement will put degree or diploma. I think the pay will be the same as long you got the WSH O from MOM.

 

Also to conduct lectures for safety. If you want to conduct CSOC, OPSOC, manhole SOC, safety coordinator already can conduct. For BCSS, OPSS, WSH Officer already can conduct. What they need is dunno how many years experiences then MOM can allow. Also I think in future you need ACTA.

 

for SDWSH course, I dunno qualification.

hi guys,

this is a very sincere msg am typing here. I have abt 7 mths to finish my Ns. Currently am 23 years old. i have already attained a diploma in civil eng from singapore poly. during my study of course, i attained a safety supervisor cert accredited from MOM. I remember that my lecturere said that i can start getting a pay structure of $3k with that kind of cert. But that was 2 years ago. after doing a little homework around, i realise that the cert is no longer just supervisor nowdays but is accompanied with saftey coordinator. so you see there have some changes.i have decided to work under safety for my future careers. i need enligthment in this. i am considering taking WHO safety and also OIl and Petrochemical Safety as well. i am planning to work myself way up all the way to auditor level or any higher if there is. everywhere they are asking for experience. after ORD, wondering where to start of. aiming to earn about $7k a month. pls help me out friends

Now safety alot of bangala & indian man all got at least Diploma de. dip Is pretty normal now adays. sexkid i think 2K without experience also pretty tough.. No company will pay so much to a 0 Experience. Mostly 1.5K.

safety coordinator cannot get 7k, but some can get 5k but got *. I have a friend working in EPC (engrg, procurement and construction) got that amount with diploma only, but guess what... no 13th month and no variable bonus. He is on contract basis somemore, so when the company cannot get business, he is asked to leave. Know another RSO friend working in EPC projects on Jurong Island that got 12k!!!, but only for three years. After three years have to move on, but surely put cut for next job. That is way above market value. If it is a EHS director job, company will pay, but not for a site RSO/ECO.

 

So look for job that creates value for you, then the money will come naturally. If the 7k is obtain through constant job hopping, then beware as you will be the first one to go when the company downsize. What for I need a 7k RSO when I can get one for 5k, who can do the job equally well?

PTW - Working on height above 2m.

 

Applicant (usually the foreman, supervisor or engineer in-charge of that particular job) will apply for the permit.

 

Verification (Safety Sup, Safety Coordinator, Safety Assessor, RSO) will verify and counter sign. Meaning to do a check b4 the work is being out. Checks such as - workin area below cordon off, SWL signage for gondola is put up, checklist for gondola is complete, LA/LM of gondola not expired, operator of gondala is competent etc and so on.

 

Approval (Project Mgr) will than approve the PTW and work can carry out. If Project Mgr is not around, he/she may authourize someone who may be slightly below his position for eg. Contruction Mgr, Site Mgr or even Engineer to sign on his behalf.

 

There u go, work can start already.

Not to spoil your Mood too Tombros. You're only a dip holder only without a single yr experience summore. If you aiming for 7k. Which is a Senior safety officer pay, I got to say dude you're dreaming please wake up!!! Sorry to say that. As prankster say, Now adays company looking for Experience person to do the job, Most of the company don't waste money hired SS or SC they can simply Send those Bangala or indian or china man go Coordinator course and Do the Safety Coordinator job which is much cheaper than hired a Local singaporean. IF you really lucky to go in as a SS without experience the company will start you off mostly 1.3 to 1.6K only... Not more than 1.8K for sure.. Excuse me and u asking for 7K?

Well, not to start a war or anythin, but i still think that not many bangla, PRC or indian with coordinator cert can do the job. Local pple like us still got some value when holding this certificate coz coordinator job nowadays not that easy. If no RSO, coordinator actually have to be the acting RSO. Even with RSO, coordinator may still have to help out in RSO job when its a BIG project.

 

But if u say SS, i confirm 100% agree with you that the banglas, indians and PRC is enuff man. Bloody idiots who just will stand around, see here and there and can't even spot the bloody hazard rite infront of them. When see main-con safety personnel, start shoutin here and there like a professional. N tis dumb assess in blue helmets even join in working together with their fellow workers while they are actually suppose to be lookin out for them.

Firstly let me introduce myself.. I am a dip holder in chemical engineering, working in Jurong island for 3 years.. Would love to switch my career to safety but seem like very difficult..

As in Sp/Np the safety office course is overwhelmed and unable to go in now.. And NTUC learning hub only have Cert in WSH full time..

And lastly without any people introducing, it is difficult to get into safety line..

So people here can offer some lights to me? Greatly appreciated..

As with everything, start from scratch. Work and learn your way up. What's the point of studying straight for Specialist Dip in WSH, become a WSHO then realizing that you actually knows everything theory but nothing practical? To have your subordinates to teach you the ropes? Or to finally find out how a chain block looks like when you're suppose to know how to visually inspect one?

 

Don't take shortcuts. It's known to cause incidents!

Good points. I know what you are driving at.. I have passions for safety cos if not I would rather future my degree in chemical engineering. But now to find a job in safety is so difficult. Need this cert need that cert, without company sponsoring you, it is so difficult to go into safety sectors. Is there some ways for me to get into safety line??
