Graduating soon from one of the local poly with a diploma in aerospace electrical.

Any advice whether I should continue to pursue a degree or go straight into the workforce to gain more work experience?

On one hand having a degree will give me a slight edge but the though of me slugging it out with the books for another few years is a dreadful though.

Any advice on joining SAESL as a trainee technician? 1 year training and 2 year bond? My cousin thought of joining? Prospect wise? The pay not that good upon starting. After training like $1500 and increment every year. But as i can on the net, there is demand in the aviation line as they are hiring aircraft technician.

Maximize every opportunity with the best of your ability.

You will probably need to find electrical related jobs in aerospace, avionics and **** pit instrumental stuff etc etc .... Depends on whether you need to work or if u can further studies at this point in time. My advice, times are bad, if u can afford, go study 1st and i encourage you to geta degree. Find a job will be easier when the economy recovers.

If u can tah-han the pay they offer you and you are satisfied with the job package ...why not ? But given the opportunity, try to upgrade yourself to Executive / Professional grade / level.

True, i am working for 1 of "big" OEM's belonging to one of a super big "Consortium" owning businesses in security, helicopter business, some mechanical related firms as well and of cos several aerospace/aviation companies. In general, all big consortiums are in a way "suffering" at this point of economy downturn. But being a subsidiary of the huge consortium, my company performance was "unbelievable" for 2008 work year. Bottomline, end of the day, the S11 counts most

If you are aiming to become an LAE, degree is totally unnecerssary. Its more about your interpersonal skills at the end of the day. Who is know is more important than what you know. Trust me. But den, it depends on what you want in life. For me, I enjoy hands on. Not planning to go management. As long as i enjoy my work and can fund my biking passion, good enough.

I check out on the net, aerospace pay is really peanuts compare to countries like US. serious! Just to share a forum i stumble upon....

You are right. But you need to start off somewhere right? Being a singaporean, there's not much of a choice with only 2 MROs in Singapore. Unless you are a RMS maybe your dad can fund you to go US to get an FAA license. But if you're a RMS, why go into Aerospace industry.
