Hi folks, im hunting for a scooter (my first) and got to know abt maxsym good stories so far. But im looking for abit of reality check, and so far 53 pgs of this thread has been very helpful!

Still, i am sitting on the fence right now, and have just a few qns to those who are willing to share abit on what they feel abt:

1) the difference between maxsym and other scooters u have rode before (for those who have ridden other scooters before)?

2) what is the 2 least satisfying feature of the bike since you bought it?

3) what do you think the resale value will be like for maxsym?

thanks in advanced to those who willing to spend their time answering! cheers!

2005-2006 : Yamaha RXZ 135

2006-2010 : Honda Super 4 Spec I

2010-2012 : Honda VFR 800 5th Gen

2012-current : SYM MaxSym 400i

Re: Resale. Value is poor. Scooters, traditionally, have poorer resale value. Be prepared for steep depreciation, especially for the first few years. This is not a bike to ride for a few years purchased brand new.

6000k is pure white, while 8000k is light blue and so on to 10000k will be blue and 12000k will be purplish blue :)

Firstly, I no need to say about the resale value of this bike becoz the machine price of $9000k, so what do you expect the resale value will be?

The least 2 satisfying feature:

1) The underseat storage, if it can make it bigger like burgman, it will make this scoot the best in its class!, nonetheless you can still chuck in 2 helmets in it :thumb:

2) -----cant think theres any-----hmmmmmm

But for scoot, this bike can reach top speed up to 160km/hr without any problem & with big wide tyres (160mm Rear; T-max equivalent), I can safely say its the most stable scoot around for its class :thumb:

actually for depreciation, no only apply for scoot, it applies for normal bike as well..

Take for an example, a friend of mine bought Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 last year for 38k (fully paid), this yr he wanted to change his bike and bike shop willing to take the bike for 20k only..thats a 18k depreciation for a year of usage....damn

I dun really agree with your last sentence or maybe i read it wrong..

I think scoot, just like other bikes, it can be use for a long period of time till your coe expires as long as you do your part of maintaning & servicing is periodically. If all these are done correctly, I am sure that the scoot/bike can last for even more den 10years.

For example SYM GTS 200, its a hard core scoot, i nvr hear anything about engine breakdown/problems/mulfunctions whatsoever except for the rusty exhaust pipe. GTS been around for more den 10years now, i still see the FT, FX plate on the road..hahax

For a 2A road bike, the depreciation of the more popular models is lower than a comparable scooter. Demand is much lower for a scooter, especially at the Class 2/2A level, ergo... more difficult to move... ergo lower prices. That's simple economics.

As for my last sentence, it was indeed misinterpreted. What I meant to say was, a brand new MaxSym's resale value just 1-3 years down the road will be painful. For the health of the wallet, it is better to plan for longer term ownership (perhaps >5 years).

I wasn't hinting at reliability. Taiwan, if any readers have visited, is scooter heaven. 50cc scooters are sold at supermarts for the average ah ma to buy vegetables from the market. The Taiwanese have plenty of experience designing and building scoots. I have faith in their robustness. What they lack today is brand recognition overseas.

1) the difference between maxsym and other scooters u have rode before (for those who have ridden other scooters before)?

Tough to answer holistically. Owned X9, ST200, X8, a little of SW400 (Rented), maintained (and rode ) X1 and a Sparks for friends when they went for overseas postings. Was expecting the bike to feel like Taiwan made, but NO. Was nicely surprised instead. Furthermore, I was one of the few that bought it without opportunity to test ride at Mah, only able to start the engine and rev the hell out of it until Uncle Chew told me to "Relax! Relax!" So far bike is satisfying, good punch to pull off at the lights despite the weight and FC is very reasonable. Good low cruising RPM on the highway.

But then again objectively, I don't think any surviving Maxsym owner will tell you it's crap esp in this thread.

2) what is the 2 least satisfying feature of the bike since you bought it?

Signal indication in the dash too dim in the day.

I think a better quality tyre from factory will make me happier. Current tires compound is too hard for wet weather riding imo.

3) what do you think the resale value will be like for maxsym?

Not good. Agree with Chemol, Buy a scoot and rot with it, use it like how it should be employed. Go market buy veggies, buy kopi, buy 4D, go banks put cheque, go town watch movies, go to/fro work, go touring (short trips for me, don't stress the machine).

I think you are lucky as you have the opportunity to join in meetups to touch and feel the bike, from there you can make a well balanced decision.

But I would tell you, just buy one.

1) the difference between maxsym and other scooters u have rode before (for those who have ridden other scooters before)?

ans: can't really answer this question as my previous scooter is only a 200cc piaggio x8. Maxsym is definitely much more powerful and stable.

2) what is the 2 least satisfying feature of the bike since you bought it?

ans a: seat cushion, too hard, not really comfortable when travelling long distance.

ans b: due to my Givi top box, it compromises the bike's stability when cruising at above 130KM/hr, bike feels a bit shaky at high speed.

3) what do you think the resale value will be like for maxsym?

ans: dont think can expect much resale value because in the first place, the machine price is only $9k like what etkach3 mentioned. And also not many people trust taiwan branded scooters.

I personally feel that Maxsym is the best scooter in the 400cc range you can get for the price u are paying.

I would have gotten silverwing 400 if i had the extra money. OTR Silverwing = $18.5k compared to Maxsym at $12.5k OTR. Silverwing is around for very long already and has really good reviews on it, further more its a Honda, and people trust Honda bikes = higher demand and higher resale value.

Anyway, i owned Maxsym since March and now at 8000 mileage, i am still very happy with it and always very eager to ride it :thumb:
