Hi,

I just got a fazer1.

Anyway as i rode back home, i felt that the bike is a bit heavy to accelerate. I parked main stand and found out that the wheel is very very hard to turn.

Went Unity to change wheel bearings and service brake caliper. The rear wheel is still difficult to turn. There are some scratch marks on the swingarm where the caliper is.

The mechanic suspect it has been involved in accident before. :weep:

I m not sure if the caliper or brake disc need a change. The disc doesnt look bent or warp but the caliper has already been service but to no avail.

Anybody knows how to solve this?

Check the drive chain tension, maybe it's too tight. Should have slack between 20mm to 30mm.

slowly isolate the problem...

is the wheel rubbing against the frame?

is the disk rubbing against the caplier?

is the chain too tight?

is the brake pistons dirty?

I had similar experience.

check the rear brake fluid. it might need bleeding. might have air bubbles in the tube causing it to automatically brake all the time

No more regrets.

Thanks bro for the suggestions.

Here are some things which i already done

1) Blow brake dust

2) Change brake pad

3) Check chain tension. Looks good

4) Check no rubbing of wheel to frame

Still not good

I notice that the brake fluid is fill up to quite a high level.

Is this the cause ?

Bleeding the rear might help.

there might be air bubbles caused by over heating by previous owner on the rear brakes. hence the bubbles occupy some volume causing the rear brake to activate.

maybe la i not sure but this is wat happened to me last time

No more regrets.

the brake fluid will go up to the max level after you change your brake pads due to the pistons pushing back the fluid back to the reservior...

you tried spining the wheel without the brake pads?

could it be ur 'o'ring inside the caliper worn out? thats y ur caliper piston wun return therefore its pushing ur brake pads against ur brake disc...

Yup. I just wonder how come Unity couldn't

rectify the problem.

Don't think too hard about it. You don't need a reason.

JUST RIDE.

I guess it must be the brake pistons or the o-rings inside the calipers.

The brake doesnt feel spongy and the new brake pads cause the level to be higher like what thcheong said.

I will try to service the caliper and see how. I was surprised too when unity couldnt rectify the problem. The mechanic simply change wheel bearings and brake pads. Then he said the problem is solved but it wasnt. I wont go back to them anymore.

I have the same problems too. On my BB. Mech told me need to service the brake calipers oso. Haven;t done it though. Does it affect your fuel consumption? And how much did you pay to service your calipers?

After all the checks, finally i got to the root cause.

Actually it was the brake disc which cause this 'heavy' wheels. At some point of turning it will suddenly stop.

Way to check ->

1) put on main stand. Start engine

2) Kick 1st gear. let the rear wheel turn

3) Use a screwdriver and slowly put it on the surface of the brake disc.

4) If the brake disc is bent (no good), the screwdriver should bounce off the disc easily

If it is good, the screwdriver should remain on the disc while the wheel is turning.

I changed the brake disc (04 model) at $180. Problem solved.
