Hi there,

For these past few days I've been reading threads on TDM and V-Storm.

Got to know more about the bikes but I believe there is always more to learn....

I'm seriously considering on these 2 models and in order not to get bias reply. I decided to post here in Chatter box so that I could receive the frank opinon of both made. Also heard that parts for TDM is more accessable and servicing is thus made easier.

V-Storm would be from Looi's and learned the boss is quite difficult to deal with and spare parts are difficult to indent?

I hope to here from fellow forummer who had experience with the bikes mentioned and hopefully can decide which one to settlle in. I only plan to ride around Singapore and had no intention to travel cross country even Msia. Thank you!

I have a Vee strom for sale as well as other strommer like Al-Simmons.

What would you like to know?

Answering your question, there is a few bike shops that strommers in sg go to. we have not had any problems with spare parts, not that i know of anyway. the local stockist have enough parts in their shop.

The bike has a comfy riding position and a tankful will get you at least 300km. The Vee is perfect for 2 up riding while the Wee (650) has much better fuel consumption.

Come original, u gotta come original...

Do you mean I should consider super tenere too? I hv an impression that super tenere is still new and will not be easy to find in the used market yet.

there are a few used units in ASPhoon, but ofcuz the price is still on high side since new bike.

for Vstorm and TDM, both are good bikes.

just get according to your budget and taste.

New Veestorm 650 is available at Loois, looks quite nice.

and there are new TDMs bringing in by HL, so old one price are quite stable. (good for seller, not so good for buyer)

Thank you Reddy and Kmax for the information provided.

Also thank you for letting me know that spares are easily accessable for V-Strom as buying a used bike may required to visit more often than a new one. TDM has less much of this issue as I believe the agent (HL) is here.

I'm also wondering which would have a better resale value If I intend to sell it few years down the road?

For V-Strom I understand the latest model is K9 and wondering if there is any latest model from TDM?

Resale value is subjective as both catered to a niche market. IMHO. The sales may not go as fast as other more common bikes though. Happy hunting.

Come original, u gotta come original...

V-Strom 650 for fuel efficiency.

TDM900 for more power.

V-Strom 1000 to feel like king. :p

Ermm.. do you have all in one?? hahaha. Seem like its not as easy as I thought it's gonna be...

If you plan to ride around Singapore and have no intention to travel cross border, both mentioned bikes are actually too much for your needs imho, but you're really hell bent on getting one of these so call adv bikes and look cool maybe both the V Strom 650 or TDM 900 would be more than enuff. Both models perform the best when u r travelling long distance, take ur time and look bah, like wat Kmax said, get something according to ur budget and taste

Good luck! :)

nope.. you cant get best in all..

vstorm1000 is most powerful, with high fuel consumption.

vstorm650 is good fuel consumption, similar to TDM.

650 may be less power to 900, all are good bikes.. just study more to get right choice...

dont put much hope one resale, just get what you want and enjoy.

if i have cash now, i'd get this one

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/321359-WTS-Triumph-Street-Triple-675-(Roulette-Green-with-Arrow-end-cans).

12.5k for 2008 bike... much cheaper than Vee or TDM.

reddy has been selling his bike for quite awhile...

i tried to put mine for sale but no attractive offer..

so just what you want and enjoy the ride.

Hi,I've ridden a vstrom 1000 before and my dad owns a tdm, haven tried both bikes before vstrom has more power but ok fuel efficiency plus it's heavy for me I'm 1.7..tdm is lighter has much better fuel efficiency being a parallel twin and it's lighter, another plus point for tdm that it had better braking

Jus my 2cents worth =)

Those who laugh last...

Laugh best!!!Ahahahahaha

I got this comment from my rider friends too, but having own class 2 for more than a decade and not be able to ride in that class is kinda sad. I hv this thing for adventure tourer all these while and I believe I should own 1 and rode on it which will satisfy my desire.. So here are my chance to own one..

Thank you for the recommendation but I still prefer an adventure tourer with boxes which may be easy to run errands as well. Yes reddy did made and offer but my budget was way beyond his expectation otherwise I believe it will be a good bike to own judging from the amount of stuff he had just done to it. So the search continue.....

Just called up Looi today and found out they do not have DL 1000 but 650 was available.

Hong Leong do not bring in TDM anymore and said they are concentrating on the sales for super tenere.

Good discussion here and contributions by kmax and the rest. I'll just share my view since I have ridden both bikes quite extensively. Just my personal views so take it with a pinch of salt.

If you are in the market for a trallie or adventure tourer, you can't go wrong with either bike. Like I always say, if you have the budget, the BMW GS is one bike that I really like and regretted selling. We'll leave that out of the discussion for the time being or you may ask other beemer owners.

The TDM900 is very smooth for a twin with good fuel economy for 1 litre class tourers. Quite mature in the market with about 9-10 years since the first TDM900 appeared in 2002. So aftermarket support and parts should not be an issue. We don't see people complaining about Africa Twin parts and its an older model compared to the TDM900. In the past, getting an 18" front tyre in dual purpose thread was a problem but this is not an issue now. I sold my TDM900 and laid off riding for 3 years.

I got back riding with a Djebel. My wife wanted to come along and 250cc was underpowered for both of us. I wanted to buy back a TDM900 but decided to try another bike. So I got a Vstrom650. Suffcient power for me and 2-up with luggages. It has good fuel economy too and it comes with ABS. I don't ride often so I don't need a 1000cc bike to attract higher road tax or insurance. Like the TDM, original parts and aftermarket parts are plenty. Its rougher than the TDM900 due to the V twin layout. Different characteristics. All known issues and solutions are well documented in overseas forums which you can read up. ADVrider etc. For the right price, I'm selling mine if you are keen. Otherwise I'm happy keeping it for now just like kmax haha.

There are at least 5-6 TDMs and Vstroms on sale now. You should find something at your budget.

Yamaha WR200

Ducati Monster 400/540

Yamaha TDM850

Yamaha TDM900

BMW R1150GS

Suzuki Djebel 250XC

Suzuki Vstrom 650 ABS

Ducati Hyperstrada 821

I'm aware of the sales of V-Strom and TDM 900 but it exceed my budget (maybe I was just being ambitious) because I also intend to get a new bike for my dad, hence budget was heavily reduced due to this reason...well if I cant find any suitable one by March, I'll probably renew the insurance and road tax of my scooter and ride for another year... I need to thank everyone who had contributed to this thread as I dare say I'm equipped with better knowledge of these bikes now. Also thank you for those who had make an offer to me. but not until then, the search for my beloved ride continues....
