Hi,I am new to biking and would like to ask about motorbike care and maintenance. Between the normal service intervals, what sort of things should I be doing to ensure everything continues to run well. For example, should I be using brake cleaners, chain cleaners ? If so, what is the best way to tackle these jobs ? Any advice on products to use would also help.

Thanks for your help !

correct me if im wrong;

1) General cleaning

2) Lube chain every 5k km in general or when lube washed off by rain

3) Oil clutch, brake levers....etc any moving parts

4) Lighting check (signal, headlight high and low, brake light...etc)

5) Check tires pressure and for debris, Nails...etc

all i can think of for now.

Care? For exterior you can clean up the bike weekly, free the paint from dust & debris actually through washing while going through the bike you may spot if there's damages on the bike etc. If you don't have the time for washing you can buy yourself a bike cover protect the bike from rain and dust.

Brakes, occasional clean up on caliper and pad are welcomed, personally I'm not sure if there's aftermarket cleaner for brake caliper & pad. I came across a member whom wrote that toothbrush and regular soap does work well.

Chain cleaner, you can try GT85 quite a good agent in clearing grease and its o-ring friendly... else regular cleaner don't work well in clearing up such greasy chain.

Do check on your :

lights

controls

tire

suspension

cooling system

oil level

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

maybe weekly can even check on bolts n nuts for their tightness. dun be like me. chain guard bolts came off and it got destroyed by the chain (damaging the o-rings in the chain as well). scariest moment while riding.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!
