Hey Guys,

I bought a bike recently and there was an unpaid 70$ parking fine by LTA on the bike. The owner said he didnt recieve letter yet so waiting for it, I know he is honest and will pay it, but just curious, in this case, does the liability to pay the fine gets transferred to me(the new owner) or stays with the old owner?

I know HDB parking fine is for the bike so when bike gets sold, the liablility to pay the fine also gets transferred to the new owner.

Huh? Doesn't make sense if the liability is shifted to the new owner. The bike itself is innocent, it the rider who committed the act. As long you can prove the ownership is transffered after the offence date, the summon will still be tagged to the ex owner. Given Singapore systematic way of governing the vehicle ownership, it should not be a big problem getting the information. Hope it helps.

Don't be too worried about this. I am a living example of the exact same scenario. I was going to sell my bike, and buyer had already agreed. 1 day before transfer of vehicle to owner at LTA, I was having supper with friends, and received $70 fine for pavement parking. Summon ticket stated that would be receiving letter to my house. Worried that this would affect the sale of the bike, I called up LTA to verify. They said no issue, as fine will be forwarded to person the vehicle is registered to at the time of the offence. I transferred the bike successfully the next day. 2 weeks later I received the $70 fine letter at my doorstep. Woo hoo!! Sg Govt is efficient... :)
