Here's my input.. hope it helps.

1. Put on fresh new tyres..

There's nothing worse than crashing on your maiden track day due to using 6 months old age hardened tyres.

Remember.. its the compound that grips.. not the depth of the treads. Never fall into the trap of saying that 'I have been using these tyres for months and they are due to be replaced.. think I will go to the track and scrub off the sides first since they are not worn yet from road riding". These are the words of a fool... after crashing then change to new tyres.

2. Change the engine oil before going.

At the track.. you are... whether you like or not.. whether you consciously or otherwise do it... you will rev the engine higher than normal road riding conditions. Old oil and high rpms do not go together.

3. Bleed your brakes and change the fluid... at least for the front brakes.

Brake fluids that are older than 6 months are moisture saturated.... due to our humid climate. Water has a lower boiling point than brake fluid. When the brakes get really hot.. the water in the fluid will boil and create air bubbles.. loss of brakes at worst or brake ineffectiveness comes in.... here comes the tyre wall. And by the way... 75% of the braking power is by the front brakes.. hitting the back brakes at high speed is suicidal.

4. Change to new brake pads if possible.

Thin brake pads transfer heat faster to the caliper from the brake discs during hard braking through the brake pistons. Hot brake calipers = hot brake fluids.. and if water or a small air bubble is present... its no brakes again at high speeds under hard braking.. hello tyre wall again.

5. Adjust and replace that drive chain.

Simply because at the track... its going to be under alot more load than normal road riding.

6. Set your suspension to stock settings or softer and work from there.

Never believe that idiot that tells you that the suspension must be set harder than for road riding. Going over a bump on the track at high speeds versus one on the road at slow speeds causes the suspension to behave differently. Hard suspensions overload the tyres in the corners.. tyres cannot take it.. its lowside time. And the more worn the tyres are.. the softer the settings have to become as not to overload the tyres.

7. Leave your ego at home.

Your ego can kill you. Just because a small bike can overtake you in the corner does not mean you have to blast past him at the straights. You might outbrake yourself and meet the tyre wall again. Accept the fact that small bikes can take corners faster than a chwee goo 9 out of 10 times.
