Possible staged accident or very resourceful "helpers"

I live in a block overlooking the PIE at a stretch between the Paya Lebar & Eunos flyover. This stretch, in particular in the direction of the airport is notorious for accidents at night especially between 8pm and 10.30pm. "Accidents" happens very regularly to such an extent that I avoided this stretch to reach my home even though it is the quickest way. Otherwise, I drive or ride very carefully on the extreme left lane to exit at Eunos.

 

Tonight, at 9.45pm, another pileup involving 3 cars happened while i was reading in my living room. The multiple bangs from the collision made me jumped up from my chair and went to the window to kaypoh. In that short period three male "helpers" were already running across the expressway to take control of the situation.

They were very well organised! they immediately started diverting traffic and help moved the cars to the shoulder.

Then they moved about from cars driver to driver, appearing to help and offer services. From time to time, one of them will move away from the scene to make phone calls and then come back again.

 

One of accident case drivers apparently took up their offer to tow, and miraculously, a tow truck appeared. Two of the men then started to operate the tow truck and hook up the damaged car and then they drove off with one of the damaged car on tow! The 3rd man disappeared back into the dark on foot.

 

The other accident cars driver must be more savvy as he waited for his own tow. His tow truck came after the 25 minutes of the accident.

 

All this happend between 9.45pm to 10.15pm.

 

all this while, NO TRAFFICE MARSHAL OR POLICE APPEARED.

 

Once the 1st damaged car was towed away, a bike-mounted traffic marshall and a car traffic marshall appeared when the tow truck for the 2nd car came - at about 10.20pm.

 

How quaint. The 3 helpers were on the scene within 1 minute, the helpers' tow truck came and left in 15 minutes with a damaged car before the traffic marshalls appear - and only after the helpers were all gone.

 

The traffic marshalls use to take breaks at the HDB blocks beside the accident site - I know cos I live there and see them resting in the void decks often. How is it it takes them so long to respond?

 

Perhaps the "helpers" are very trade savvy professionals and are just staking out this stretch; perhaps the Marshalls were busy elsewhere to respond as expediently ..but...???. Many ???.

 

I know my post makes this "accident" sounds very fishy, but having lived here and seeing this "helpers" things happen so regularly, I think I owe it to the public to warn them to BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN USING THIS STRETCH OF ROAD AT NIGHT!

i was personally involved in one. pie towards changi but not near where you stated. there were about 3-4 of these hungry sharks. can't remember.

long story short, the lta (can't remember lta or cisco or etc) marshall who came to attend told me not to listen to these fellas and said something like "these guys are part of a syndicate". can't really fault the marshalls, they still need time to reach the location and they are there just to control traffic and shift all involved vehicles to the left shoulder, if there no injuries.

 

i took down all involved particulars, took photos, then i settled my own tow/claims/etc.

 

these buggers are sharks i tell you. bloody sharks.

Not staged accident... They're just spotters for accidents, offering their services to tow, repair and claim against the othe driver... They get paid a certain amount when they confirm a client for their workshop/ law firm...

I was once riding in heavy rain on serangoon road towards the upper seragoon rd flyover, I noticed the taxi in front of me was driving slower than normal and then doing sudden brakes, as if hoping that I come and bang him from behind. I wondered whether that was a part of scam later he can claim from my insurance. Luckily I was very vigilant and didn't bang him. Be very careful guys especially taxis. They would just love us banging them from behind.

Yes bro. Always need to be extra careful when cabbie is around, even if they are good hearted, they are always looking out for customers so sometimes they like keep braking thinking they spotted a customer and they will sometimes suddenly brake if they see a customer especially on the slowest lane very dangerous to ride behind a taxi.

Yea I also notice that accidents normally happen around the area you mentioned. Especially in the evening, hopefully there are things that could be done to avoid that.

Yesterday, I was returning home riding along PIE at about 6:40 p.m.

At the stretch between Paya Lebar and Eunos, I was in between Lane 1 and Lane 2.

About 3 cars ahead of me, a black old model Honda suddenly changed lanes from Lane 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 when there was just 1 car gap.

All the cars started jamming their brakes at this sudden and shocking move by the black Honda driver.

If there were any bikes in any of the lanes moving into these gaps, they would have been seriously injured or killed by this utterly dangerous driver.

Lane 4 is where traffic coming from Paya Lebar road into PIE and cars heading to Jalan Eunos will merge.

This crazed driver kept weaving in and out of traffic until he exited to Jalan Eunos.

Sad to say, no traffic police were around to witness this.

Sometimes, I wonder why in Singapore, we hardly see the traffic police on the road when compared to other cities

I wonder whether our traffic police force is grossly understaffed or lack vehicles and bikes to do patrols.

I also wonder why with so many cameras mounted on lamp posts along the expressways, they are not put to good use to catch such crazed drivers.
