Just don't treat the public roads as a race track.

Don't even think of riding fast in the corners on a public road. The odds are against you.

In the first place you need to set your suspension to your riding style, you need to set the tyre pressures to track use.. and you need to be dressed for the crash.

Racing on public roads is stupidity at its max.

Unfortunately there are too many idiots who are willing to let their ego control their throttle on the public roads.

Come to the tracks and test yourself... when you let your ego control the throttle on the track.. chances are you will meet the tyre wall.

Going fast is not about gunning the throttle but more of using your head to ride.

Ups to you bro :)

Road hogger @ 50km/h on 4th lane

A bike can go up till 200km/h, can the rider go up till 200km/h o_O

Another good point. On the streets, in some situations it may not be wise. Dont shift ur butt out in heavy traffic. Its difficult to make fast mid corner corrections if the need arises. Cant reach the rear brakes in time and cant shift to the other side fast enough too. Anyway, on the streets u shouldnt be going fast enough to drag knees in the first place.. :cheeky:

Hehehe... Of course i dun do that in heavy traffic. Sometimes i ride aimlessly at night just for fun. And not hell rider style either, it's the comfortable 80-100kmph pace on e'way and 50-70kmph on smaller roads. Usually ride to Changi beach and see stars and planes takeoff after parking there. But there are certain bends on e'way that gives that cornering feel even when travelling at 80-90kmph. Of course, i don't go low enough to knee down. But the leaning out is something that can be done a little bit there, not full lean out like motogp, but just slight shift to get the feeling. Like 20%. The idea is to get the butt moving, so will know how to do it, and get used to doing it situationally, in case the need arises like on track. =)

If i remember correctly, there's one such bend at KJE to BKE. i was travelling there at 90kmph and didnt know about that bend. Going into it, i thought it was a gradual bend, but turned up to be a very sharp left and then right bend. It was too risky to rear brake, so i just leaned in more, 1-finger front brake, and changed gear down at appropriate time to keep rpm up and engine braking high. But after watching the video on static leaning, it's quite scary that if i had leaned further, i could have lowslided. Thus, such knowledge can come in useful in certain situations to increase rider safety.

I won't treat the public roads as a race track. In fact, i'm very against taking public roads as a racetrack. That race mentality on public roads is what causes most accidents. People dowan to give way, go fast, and can't stop in time etc. It's just as well that i'm in quite a tight rein as i promised my dad that if i meet with accident, i won't ride bike anymore, so i won't take stupid risks. I'm nowhere near leg hair level in knowledge of track racing as many people here, there's no point in me doing hell rider stunts on public roads where it's even more uneven then track. Also, i have yet to change my rear shock, not comfortable taking such stupid risks.

Am however, looking forward to pick up more tidbits on things like cornering smoothly and safely, the idea and theory behind it. It's kinda like, u learn how to swing in golf, sometimes, while walking, you will swing your arms and pretend and get use to the positioning, the feeling, but that's just it, it's pretend, and not really doing it, until you're at the golf range, and then you give it your best shot.

Agreed totally Encik Raptor.. Would you share some of your track experience with us? For e.g how most people lose control of the bike? What should we do when we hit a porthole or a dip in the road during mid-corner? What do you mean letting your ego control ur throttle? It'll save us newbies alot of painful experience when we hit the track.

These techniques are not about treating the road as a race track.

For example let's say you're negotiating a bend a little too quick and you understeer and are about to buang the barrier or something else, these cornering techniques may actually prevent this from even happening in the first place.

But yeah there will probably be some black sheep who take the roads as Singapore Circuit...

The technique is called hanging off... Not lean out... Anyway, there's a video on YouTube. Search "Twist Of The Wrist" by Keith code. They teach u not to close throttle midway through a corner or brake midway through a corner, as it will increase grip on the front tyre and therefore straighten the bike upright... They'll also teach u how to judge the type of corners.... Increasing radius where the road expands towards the end of the corner, decreasing radius where the road narrows toward the end of the corner... They'll also teach u how to judge the type of road you're riding on, positive camber where the road pulls u toward the direction of the corner, negative camber where the road pushes u away from the direction of the corner and off camber where the road is uneven and will push and pull your bike at different sides of the road...

Hope this will help u guys ride better... If possible, try to do it while riding everyday... So u wouldn't hesitate when the time comes for u to do it... Hesitating might cause u to have an accident... As u know, cars can't seem to keep in their lane at bends/corners... Hope this helps to prevent accidents... Not create more accidents... Because, this video did help me... From skidding at corners... But before u try this, make sure u have a good tyre, metzeler or Pirelli for optimum grip... Please don't use Thailand or china tyres when doing this... It will just cause pain and suffering to u... How I know? It happened to me before... IRC tyre made in Thailand... On my first ever 2b Kawasaki kr150. Skidded. -.- many times. Until my mechanic told me to change tyre... Lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFEh59GVMnQ Watch this. I notice how the riders turn their head to where they want to steet their bikes. Guess it'll prevent an accident if we look towards an escape path.

Yup. Always look at where your bike is heading towards. Foreign objects on the road or not, if no foreign objects then look out for other hazards. If all clear, then proceed.
