Saw in another thread that one of the FZ1 riders' bike got burnt down after the Durian Outing...

What the **** are these arsonists thinking? Hope they get caught soon and get the punishments they deserve.

From what I have read, it's at a MSCP in Woodlands...

That aside... just heard the news that next month all new bikes will be fitted with the new ERP unit, which is slimmer and uses combi-usage cashcard..

These guys are #@$)#@)*$ man. A friend of mine got his bike burnt too!

They started the fire from the box which eventually spread to the seat and the whole bike. Thankfully the fire dept came in time to put out the fire before it hit the fuel tank, but his whole bike was beyond repair. Had to scrap.

Oh btw anyone have any idea if changing to iridium plugs would actually damage your bike or cause higher wear and tear of your pistons?

Posted

Shouldn't be...have used them on my previous bike with no ill effects.

The plugs gives better cold start up, slight better response (for stock engines) and last longer

Based on my use that is, others' opinions might differ :)

Xgrind... it is NOT a FZ1....

i think it is a green Kawa Z1 or Z1000

I believe thiss bike was riding in front of me and he had a pillion together with a fren on a SuperFour.

Sad to hear something like this happens.... but then...**** happens.

Hmmm..... when i got the bike and riding it for the first few days (riding an 2008 too!!!)... i thought i smell something like that.

Ever since nothing of that sort came up!

Dun worry so much.... it probably "running" in.... i have been to trips and i am confident and know my bike is fine. Yours will be too.....

Ride more.... feel more of the bike... and enjoy more.....

Mantra.....

Ride more , Worry Less!!!!

Its fine.... normal....

If you still smell something after your 2 mths.... then something is probably wrong.... but then.... new owners tend to be more "cautious".

I have been smelling that on and off since like.........6 months back? Till now no issue *finger crossed* :D

No issues bro. Its normal. Smell that when im riding my FZ6. Checked with HL when servicing, say there's chemical on the bike to prevent corrosion during transportation. If u still smell it after a few mths, do check it out.

Yeah. I do get that burning smell sometimes.

More to melting plastics smell. Prob some cable tie or sleeving got toasted a bit.

But two things I don't like about this bike is

1) Buzz/rattle/vibration of some plastics at some rpms

2) Totally fuccked up damping of the rear shocks.

Looks like I'll prob be looking for aftermarket shocks in a year plus time.

Thanks everyone....:cheeky:

Health Warning!

BootLicking is not good for your ASS!!!

Stock = ~8000km

Iridium = ~12000km (somewhere there, can't remember the exact mileage for Iridium)

That's based on recommended mileage

How often do you change your plugs?

20,000kms? Stocks and Iridium same yea?

Good Morning everyone!!!

How's your weekend???

Mine's not too bad... happy i got some quality time riding and of course.... DURIANS!!!!

Really a case of durian OD!!!

It was a ride with lots of emotions.....

1) I "gamely" joined the convoy of smaller bikes, ranging from Kupkias, vespas ...etc..... throwing some big bikes who wants to go slow... I went because i have a cousin riding a X1R!! - BAD DECISION!!! The slow ride was painful!!! Felt the sun most of the time and not much wind...my wife says she wanted to fall alseep.....that how bad it was!

2) The ride consisted of 100++ Bikes and probably close to 150 riders/pillions. So it was massive!! Exhilarating!!! excited....

3) Realised that such a big convoy also means.... it takes a while for people to top up/ form up and move off.... so more waiting....

4) Got to the plantation.... and had the MOST Wonderful durians honestly!! Veyr good and almost overdosed on durians... but really very very good.

5) Left the group as i wanted to rush for a wedding dinner in the evening.... also to siam the whole waiting game.... with the large group.

6) rode back.... andit started to rain.... Heavy!!!.... put on the rain coat and pressed on...

7) At the top up at Machap.... i waited for my dad to reach us and top up... waited for damn long and finally they throttled in.... only to find out.... In Tow was my cousin who was out of fuel for the X1 R..... was towed in with a rope, dad brought along... they rode the last 30km in tow... in the rain!!!

8) After leaving Machap and re fueling....rode by a commotion in the front... only to find out that a fellow rider from the group actually met with an accident - getting hit by a tow truck!! And all i saw was a bike on the floor with many bikes crowding around the area.... i decided against joining the group so we pressed on in the rain.

9) Rode for another 20-30mins in the rain and the skies cleared.... so took off the rain gear and continue in the hot sun....drying our gears in the process....

10) Got to GP bike wash... and washed the bike.. always the highlight of the day!!! Had some food..... AND Decided to skip my wedding dinner appointment!!!..... but of course... the ang pow went ahead!!! Coz we were too tired and just wanted the rest of the night to ourselves.... got home at about 730pm.

Not too bad for a weekend!!

Pics will be on my facebook if those keen.

Saw the Durian outing. Was tempted.

But 2 things kept me away.

- Group was too large

- I was getting sick with sore throat and fever anyway. Durian would have done me in. :p :P

Heh. There's a few things I've learnt after some time touring with groups.

1) Tour with bikes that are in the same range/speed class as mine.

2) If it's gonna be a group of mixed bike classes, then I see if the organizer are gonna split into fast group, slow group. Then I join the faster group. I hate to spend too much time on the road. If everybody has to cater to the lowest (or slowest) common denominator, then I pass.

3) Some organizers are OTOT, some are tight-assed. So if I have doubts abt the organizer or group, then I pass again.

I prefer organizers to be more flexible with the group. Set a destination or R&R points.... assign a sweeper, some markers, and SEE YOU THERE! OTOT. Don't need to travel in tight staggered convoy. Loose groups are always better.

4) Try to avoid touring with newbies. Yes, selfish I know, but I prefer more experienced riders as I want to vacation, not babysit. :D

Only question is.... do we have to pay for the fuccking things?

We already paid what? $160 for the current ones.

U see. It's only a matter of time before they force the change on all vehicles.

Can't have 2 standards running around for too long.

From what I checked. The unit costs $150 (w/o GST, presumably) and all bikes who wanna change have to fork that out.

What happens to our existing IU units, which we also paid $$ for? Do they take it back? I don't think they'll allow us to keep the thing for fear of us tampering with it. So they gonna eat our $$ again?

I bloody say that they should allow a trade in policy. I for one won't be changing my IU as I don't think much of ERP anyway. :D I rode my other bike for 3 years with a broken IU, and when I finally passed a gantry one fine day, they sent me a letter to give come for inspection... found it too fuucked up to repair, and gave me a free IU in exchange.

I'm definitely NOT gonna change for that new IU, no matter how slim it may be. Even when they decide to force the change, I might just test water yet again and see how long I can go without an IU.

Good to know DeuxExMachina!!

As most of you probably know...i am new to the whole touring thingy.

I am learning as i go along. Discovering things i should do... i should not do.

Be more alert and try to help out when possible.

I remember Innards, was almost going berserk because i were consciously aware about leaving markers.... which i agree i should have done.

Innards... next time i will remember!! But good that that was highlighted!! I will do my best in future!!

no worries, we all learn something everyday...

as 35 has highlighted, which is what we have always followed on our past trips..

fastest rider : lead rider

2nd and 3rd fastest rider : markers

slowest rider: sweeper

if you are the one immediately behind the lead bike, you are the marker. :)

When I said noobs, I meant new riders who're on their virgin trip up.

Innards aka Kway Chap Kia can train you to be the fastest. Just poke a small hole in your fuel tube and let it leak, then start riding. He'll use a lighter and light up the trail. Guaranteed you sure becoming the fastest rider and visual trailblazer of the group. :D

:p :P :p

the trailblazers then... were lost because there were no markers up in front of them. :slapforehead:
