...mines less than 30,000km with burnt coil encountered Sep 09...

 

Fried battery + fried rectifier + fried starter + fried coil = fried wallet + burning hole to the heart.

 

The cause of all this is the battery. It detoriates to a point where its not rectangular anymore in shape. The walls of the battery curves out. It causes the bike to heat up very fast (less than 2 traffic light) fan turns on. The bike also could not start immediately if you take a few mins smoking break. It requires a full 30 mins and more of cooldown time to restart again.

 

Total price of changing to a new one is as follow +/- @ clifford:

 

Coil: $320

Battery: $90 (cheong batt)

Gasket: $15

Labour: $30

Rectifier: $130

Startor motor: $75

Total: $660

Fwah!!! Ouch!! That really hurts. Really a "fried" wallet and a "burnt" heart for a "fried" magnetic coil... :giddy:

 

That is almost, quite close to the "damages" I suffered due to the servicing recently (collecting my ride from *0*0F@c*0r this Saturday).

 

(1) Servicing of valve clearance for the exhaust portion (according to the boss-cum-mechanic there, the clearance for the exhaust portion is very out, so did a valve clearance, that's what he told me)

(2) The previous owner used the wrong sized of spark plugs (it was mentioned that there are different sizes of spark plugs, something like size 9, size 10), so changed to the correct sized Iridium plugs

(3) Air filter old, blackand dirty, so changed to K&N air filter.

(4) Change EO + oil filter

(5) Cam tensioner CMI too, so changed too.

(6) Labour

Did u fix a voltmeter on your bike??? Highly recommended to fix it to monitor your voltage: before start bike:12 to 12.5 , bike on the move will slowly go up until about 14.2 to 14.3 volt etc. If the volt is too high or suddenly drop too low, something is wrong. It can be your rectifier or magnetic coil or battery to old to charge.

Just spoke to Meng Tong from sporting motor yesterday.He told me FZ1 and R1 both have the same problem.He show to me a burnt magnetic coil and coil basket which he just took out from a FZ1 06 or 07 model. Try to change to a good qualty fully synthetic oil as the oil is use to cool the magnetic coil.

 

Rectifier from Auto Machinery is $180/- ( Once sold cannot exchange if spoilt as what the saleperson told me!!!!)

Magnetic coil is $288 at AM ( I called last month to check the price)

Yamaha OEM YTZ14S battery is $160/- at Bikeworkz.

My bike is very stock (or errmmmm.... hmm, perhaps, not so stock afterall...), no voltmeter at this moment.

 

The idea of fixing a voltmeter is in the pipeline, but wait till I recover financially first from this recent "damage" due to servicing. Plus just paid my school fees for my first semester starting Jan 2011, then baby due next April (so have been visiting the gynae for the past few months), now whole wallet "burnt" off to ashes liao... hahahahaha.... :cheeky:

 

Wait till my bonuses come, maybe will seek the advice and help of the "poisonous" one (you know who you are... heehee... :cheeky: No offence, Bro.) here on what voltmeter to buy and where, how to fix, etc...

@dragonforce i asked UM if they can do the conversion. they do and they did it before but best you get the things n bring it there.....

 

they did it for fz6-r6 conversion before? at kaki bukit branch? cos i went the toh guan workshop before, they said nv do before.

the problem is what to get? i need a mech competent enough to tell me what's needed, which year r6 or r1 stuff are compatible, and roughly how much is needed to get it done. i heard HKL also can get it done.

 

anyway, thanks alot for helping me to ask..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

it a kumpong house and the old man is using his compound for his car cum bike wash biz

1 time last year i was there, his pregnant daughter was wiping dry my bike, me and my friends want to tell her to take a rest and we do the drying ourselves, but she say it is okay..now i hope she is not pregnant again..:confused:

bro, u there too last nite? i thot i'm the only newbie.....was quite lost. hv to approach a table n ask if they from SBF fazer....cos the other tables there are occupied by senior citizen...hahaha...anyways, nice to meet u guys n crankcase too. super frenly guy. but split into 2 tables n i sat with the 2 fz6 guys but i forgot their names........nxt time will try to sit on the other table. n bro max 35, which one are you?

Yesterday, i had an interesting incident happen to me when i went to Tampines1. Parked at their bike lot at the basement.....went roaming around for a while, when i went back to my bike, it's not there anymore....even the bike lot was not there anymore....my bike was shifted away and they didn't even move it to another bike lot. It was shifted to a corner behind a pillar. The bike lot area which i had parked in was repainted to a car lot.......my question is, do they have the right to just shift my bike somewhere else, what if they had dropped or scratched it???? A lot of the other bike lots have also been repainted as car lots now....so bikes will have to park out of the lots if they go to Tamp1 now....

which coolant is good? currently using coolant ice used abt over 15k+ km already.

 

bro, actually aftermarket coolant is around the same de... the most popular brands that we ever discussed is either maxima coolaide or engine ice... yours is wad? engine ice? 15k km ok wad... usually coolant recommended to flush and replace like once a year thou we understand that it can last for ages... unless u wan your radiator to spoil and when u pour the coolant out, it looks or even smell like those shitty drain water... hehehe... but certainly, most of us had changed our stock coolant to aftermarket coolant cus cmi... :)

 

ps. call me charles or pichudot la, no dark angel lei... i not dark in any part of me... or u wan to call me by my rank also can... hehehehe! :D
