I got caught in a super downpour on the way back to office along ECP around noon.

Stopped under the flyover at Bedok South to put on my rain gear as I could see that the rain ahead was getting heavier.

It was a super downpour as "ponding" (term created by PUB) was everywhere along the part of beside Laguna golf course and thereafter.

Had to overtake the container trucks as their wheels were throwing up too much water and messing up the helmet visor... difficult to see ahead.

Quite a few times, vehicles passed beside me on the next lane and threw up waves of water. Had to keep control of the scoot in a straight line and just take it.

Each time, I was thinking ...damn, my shoes will be soaked.

Surprisingly, after reaching office car park (basement), shoes and socks were absolutely dry.

The front of the scoot really offers good protection.

Really happy with the scoot.

Hopefully when I get my Givi windshield, it will be an even better ride in the rain.

Just had 3k service at Mah yesterday. Cost only $10+ for oil change.

After service, it seems to be much quieter and now have to watch the speedometer as it easily surpasses 90 kph on expressways since I have got used to wind buffeting.

So far mileage tracking shows from month of July 31.68 / 36.85 / 38.39 /36.08 / 33.64 / 35.1 which works out to be about 35.29 km/l.

Those low figures were when I spent some time within the CBD area.

On a few occasions, had to do emergency braking due to cars changing lanes without signalling or car driver just don't bother about bike/scooter riders. No much effect using the horn at warn them as it is metal against my flesh and bones and its a case of 1+ tonner against my 100+ kg.

Thankfully, brakes are working well and scooter maintain it's stability under hard braking.

Probably will try changing to better brake pads after current set wears out.( Any recommendations from anyone )

Now waiting for arrival of Givi windshield.

Wow, Guerila, you kept your old number or bought an old golden number?

Sure will be on the lookout.

Last Friday, I say one black HD2i on Bedok South Road. Elderly Pak Chik was going very slowly. Road was a bit wet due to some drizzle.

We are rare breed so should be easy to spot each other. Haha!

Engine will get smoother as the mileage increases.

I just passed 3630 km today. I just felt that engine was smoother and pick up quicker and cruising at 90+ didn't felt as strained.

Nowadays have to keep looking at the speedometer because of that.

Also Traffic Police seems to be more active on the roads recently.

Btw, if you pump your tank full until you can see the petrol near the top, try not to use the side stand after that 'cos it might flow out. Happened to me.

Ride safe.

hi bros, I m looking at this 2 models- sym HD2 n aprilia scarabeo, haven decide which 1 to buy, can u guys give me some opinons? The sale guy at mah keep asking me to get the scarabeo as it has 2yrs warranty, more power at 180cc, better quality built but it cost 500 bucks more as compare to the hd2.

In my opinon, I like the outlook of the hd2 more than the scarabeo but the later is indeed better quality built with Michelin tyres, 3 pistons front brake n accessories.

Hope to hear from u guys soon, thanks n ride safe.

My no plate have been with me since my old vespa and this SYM bike will be the 6th bike with the no plate.

I will take note of the refueling , will never put to side stand after refueling to full.

Thks.BTW have yr Givi windscreen arrive yet? Do post a pix once install.

I thought of installing the Puig windscreen, what do u think?

Hi Sym7, I really not sure bcoz I have yet to collect my bike and give my reviews.the best person shld be pgohctoon since he have riden the bike.

The truth is I also nearly buy the Scaby but I ended buying the Sym bcoz the design is rare on the road and I am confident Taiwan bikes are esier to maintain than a European bike.Just my 2cents opinion.

But in the end of the day its yr own decision on what bike you are confortable to ride on.

Cheers mate.Hopefully will see another Sym HD2 onthe road soon ;)

I believe Mah is pushing for scarbeo because it has been there for some time. They just wanna clear stock.

It was there when i was looking for a scooter in 2011.

Hi Guerila,

I am still waiting for arrival of the Givi windshield. Will give my comments and post pics after it's fitted.

Every time I get hit on the neck or chin by sand or something small, I wished I had the windshield.

Once I got hit by something bigger and thought what if it had been a small stone or bee or something with slightly sharp edge.

Not familiar with Puig windshields but I guess you have to check whether it fits the HD2i.

Hi Sym7,

It very much depends on your own criteria for selecting a particular model or make.

I bought the Vespa LX150 3V before I bought the HD2i.

Before buying the Vespa, the bike shop kept introducing the Sym GTS to me.

My thinking at that time was that the Vespa had a much longer history than Sym. Finishing and material on the Vespa were top class.

So I ordered.

Then I made a trip to Taipei before collection of my Vespa.

In Taipei, scooters were every where. The majority - ladies, girls, grandmas, grandpas, guys were riding Taiwan made bikes of all types of models.

Of course, there were occasional sighting of Japanese makes and Vespas/Piaggios.

Came back and collected my Vespa.

Within the 6 months of riding the Vespa, the engine cut out about 5 times on the road while coming to a stop. Agent checked but did not find anything wrong.

I visited Mah and got the see the whole range of Sym scooters.

I have Class 2 license so my choices were unlimited.

The sales guy introduced me to the HD2i.

He was riding the older model.

I selected the Sym HD2i.

After I got my Sym, I made a trip to Rome.

I was expecting to see Italian bikes and scooter and classic Vespas on the roads and streets.

I was totally taken by surprise.

Everywhere there were Honda SH 150, 200, 300, Kymco People, Yamahas dominating the roads and streets.

The Honda SH and Kymco People are very similar in design to the HD2i.

The Piaggios and Vespas were few and far between.

Even the Italians think there are better choices than their own products.

I am not saying Piaggios, Vespas, Aprillas and other Italian makes are bad.

I must say their design, finishing and material used are f top notch.

Having used the HD2i for 3600+ km in less than 3 months, so far, it's been reliable, safe and been very easy on the pocket in terms of maintenance.

I find excuses to take the longer route home or to work or any other chances to use the HD2i.

My office colleague has a GTS 200 for more than 4 years.

He does his own plugs and oil change except for major mileage where belts and other parts need changing - that's the only time he goes to the bike shop.

It's been trouble free riding for him all these 4+ years and really easy on his pocket as well.

I have seen the Scarabeo at Mah as well.

Looks very classic in design. Top notch quality in finishing.

I think it shares the Piaggio engines.

Power and cc is higher.

From what I read in reviews, top speed is higher than the HD2i.

Under seat storage is a bit better than HD2i.

The front disc are larger , 260 vs 220mm

I guess you have to make your own call depending on what you are looking for in the scooter.

ok thanks 4 e inputs guys, well i hv ride a kymco dink n sym gts 200 b4 but never a aprilia model as i heard alot of ppls complaining abt e high maintanence cost. I think reliability is more important as i will not 1 e bike 2 break down on me when i most needed it, wat e use of top notch quality finishing if e bike keep giving problems?

anyway i still hv a few months to decide as my current bike ins n tax expire in dec, most proberly will get e hd2. Thanks 4 all e opinons really appreciate it n ride safe all.

Selamat Hari Raya, Guerila.

I think when the fuel gauge points to "E", there is probably 2 more liters of petrol as reserve. This is one thing that can be improved - there should be an indicator light when the level is at reserve.

What is the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd party of insurance?

What is the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd party of insurance?

. Hi Loosin,

I hope below helps.

There are four types of motor insurance*offered by insurers in Singapore are:

Comprehensive (1st Party)*

This is the most common policy taken up by most motorists as it has the widest cover. Apart from covering the insured's liability for death and injuries of third-parties and passengers, it also covers the loss or damage to the insured's vehicle due to accidents, fire and theft.

Third-Party, Fire and Theft (2nd Party)*This covers the insured's liability for death and injuries to third-parties and passengers and any loss or damage to the insured's vehicle due to fire and theft.

Third-Party Liability Only (3rd party)*

This is a policy with a limited cover as apart from the covering the insured's liability for death and injuries to third-parties and passengers, it also covers damage to third-parties' properties. This is the usual minimum requirement.

Act Liability Only

This is the statutory minimum required by the Motor Vehicles Act and this would only cover death and injuries to third-parties and passengers. However, this is only available for approved organizations, and not for individuals or companies.

hi guys just to check whether any other bike shops sell this scooter beside mah?

I think you can ask ASPHOON, Heng Motor or any Sym dealers. They can order from Mah.
