Hey guys!

I'm thinking of getting a bike in Oct and well the RW X5 is something I'm looking at.

Basically cause it doesn't look like any 2B bikes, like the Kawasakis and SPs. I can't stand the high pitched engine sound that those 2 bikes make... I prefer the low growl kind... And well I like its large wheel base. And it looks like only one of the few 2B bikes with it...

So!!! What do you guys think?

My concern's the cost, maintenance and resale value.. Any advice?

Other bikes I'm considering are Phantom TA200 and Daelim Daystar...

But my parents want me to get a first hand bike.. And Phantoms are no longer in production I heard? And also I heard the resale value for Daelim's quite low...

Advice? :)

Thanks loads guys!

daelim got no resale value. not low. is NIL(to shop).

phantom still alot around.. and its better than daystar, parts easily available. everywhere can fix. not like daelim, only at cka

my advise for newbie riders is buy the bike u love most n don't ask whether is affordable or not.

if u ask whether is affordable or not, it simply indicates u can't afford it.

just like all other newbie who complained in previous post.

read previous postings, u get to know rw characteristics.

all perfect bikes have their own faults, therefore if u know how to correct them, there r none.

i love this bike n still riding it n always enjoy riding it.

if u share the same thought of all sillyporean, u should get bajaj or the better fz16.

cheaper bikes like cubs, rx, rxz, etc.

modern scooters r more expensive to maintain.

rw is rare n few, only service at cka if u have engine or electric spare problem.

others like consumable, it can be purchase at any bike shops eg sprockets, chain, battery, light bulbs, tires, pads, etc.

Posted

if u have the money go for RW, its a good bike, but if have problem, be prepare to fork out more money then other bike...

i wanted to downgrade to a rxz with its coe ending at the same year as my rw, but i need to fork out 1k+ on top of my trade in for rw...

shall i consider as upgrade rather then downgrading?

bought my bike for 3.6k a few years ago, now ask CKA my bike take in price is paper value..... 400?

so the resale value is low...

i now riding with my gear lever being hold together just by a wire, as just to replace the gear lever will cost me $60-70.

i still love my RW, never fail to wash it every week and service it every 2 months.

the bike serve me well, traveling to skul almost everyday, a few trip up to muar/melaka and joy riding in and out of singapore.

here is my conclusion on rw,

advantages:

easy to maintain

huge petrol tank

big rear tyre

disadvantage:

electrical problem

price of parts

no resale value(unless u sell online, then can get a better deal)

only cka have the parts

if original gear lever is too expensive, why not look for alternative?

i believe there should be some alternative gear lever tat is adaptable.

anyway, S$60-70 is not tat expensive compare to aftermarket stuff >US$100.

u can get cheap stuff at LAB or at malayias, it's really up to the owner.

i will usually compare 2b bikes with 2b bikes, aftermarket stuff for most 2b bikes are cheaper or about the same as their original parts...

currently i have search up and down for alternative for the gear lever problem, even cka cant do anyting about it but to ask me change for a brand new one.

the only solution i came out with is to customise my own gear lever.

and yup, agree that noone will want to steal the rw...

I think the 150CC version still makes sense. Its good value to buy used bikes that are underated, for cheap and then ride on for long time.

But the 125CC may be too underpowered for the biggest bike in class 2B. So if you get 150CC version for cheap grab it.

go cka (preferably HQ) n let them inspect.

add on notes:

rear sprocket bolts (4 pcs) r tightened to the rear sprocket, not secure to wheel hub.

rear sprocket bolts ends r slight into the rear wheel hub where bushings r, it just seat into it.

engine torque transmitted radically, front sprocket thru chain to rear sprocket to wheel hub.

technically the rear sprocket should have slight movement, it is secure by a circlip to the wheel hub.

(note: there should be a washer between circlip n sprocket)

rear sprocket is not bound/mount to the wheel hub by those four bolts, it is retained by a circlip.

those four bolts r transmitting torque forces from engine to wheel.

front = 29 psi or 2.0 bar.

rear = 29 psi (single), 32 psi or 2.2 bar (with pillion).

hey pple!! any recommendations for the comestics of X5? been enjoying my ride so far!!! =DDD

i only recommend windshield for rw, u can get it from LAB.

also recommend tat u loss some weight coz 120kg with pillion is overwhelming for rw.

rw x5 is 140.2cc, produce about 13~14hp, it's on the heavier side in class 2b.

in general, no point mod engine to produce more power, maybe tune carb richer for better rides.

if u want more power, upgrade ur lic n buy a bigger bike coz it's a huge different in horsepower.

alright!! will take your views into consideration!! there seems to be a dragging sound when i am on gear 5 for a short instant. As in it is quite sudden. like there is a drop in speed but then the next moment it is back again and everything is smooth agn! izzit cause i accidentally pressed on the rear brake or is there actually any issue that i am unaware of?? thanks for the help!! =D

Posted (edited)

did u accidentally hit the rear brake?

do a roll, tat means as u r riding (50 or 70 kph) clutch-in n let ur bike move (roll).

if it roll freely tat means brakes r fine, it is able to release n it's not bind/ceased/jammed.

maybe u r overloading the engine initially, after tat initial heavy load it's able to move at ease.

if u not sure about anything, go cka HQ n ask roy (chief mech), he will provide u best services at cka.
