phantom ta200 is end of life already. only 3rd/4th++ hand bikes available. bullet proof engine, only main complaint for old bikes is the piston rings might be worn hence burning oil. i wudnt recommend it unless ure using it as a transition bike for ~1yr.

FZ16 india bike, relatively new, either u love it or hate it. 150cc of commuter bike power, love the single rear shock, but not exactly loving the rear drumbrake. single-up fc is good.

why not look at honda tiger 200cc or the bajaj 200ns a well?

Just throwing my hat in the ring here.

Personally, the looks for the Yamaha FZ16 is miles better than the Honda Phantom. Its tagline is "Lord of the Streets" or something like that, and by using the looks of its big bother the FZ1, you can see why. However, if you like the laid-back look of a cruiser, you can't go wrong with the Phantom.

For performance-wise, I'm not too sure about the Phantom's fuel consumption (should be quite good too), but the FZ16 is for me the perfect blend of looks and performance, capable of at least 35-37km/litre, which is great.

For parts and maintenance-wise, almost everyone might agree that Honda parts are so common and easily found, that you won't have a problem finding any replacement parts for the Phantom. However, with the increasing number of FZ16s on the road, more and more parts are being geared towards catering to this market, and you'll see numerous performance air filters, aftermarket pipes, belly pans, side shrouds, etc. So, if you want to save money and not get "poisoned", get the Phantom! haha..

End of the day, you'll find that both bikes have their pros and cons. I think you should just stick with your gut feeling and go for what you need/want in a bike. For looks/mileage/moddability - FZ16. For overall low maintainence and fuss-free travelling with no risk of spending too much on accessories -Phantom. Hope that helps!

Sincerely,

A non FZ16-rider.

If you ride a phantom, you'll be automatically be assumed as an apek, therefore people won't disturb you but they won't give way to you when you're filtering.

Besides a Phantom can't take corners too fast or too low, FZ16 is more forgiving in that aspect.

Tiger 200 lor. Got a couple of good deals for that right now online. $5000+ for a 2 yr old bike.

Was in the exact same situation as you but finally decided on fz16... If you are not thinking of changing immediately after getting your class 2A, then you should be happier for a longer time with fz16. Just felt that I wanted a new bike to give me a peace of mind.

huh? bro u ride phantom before? the CG is so low i take corner faster in my phantom than my cbr400

don't think it's how forgiving the bike. phantom can corner fast and low, more of how u position yr body to avoid peg dragging. also more of how comfortable you are with getting pegs dragged heels down or knee cap pointing down. =D can't compare la

operate a vehicle in a way that you benefit other road users pls - and meanwhile, stop whining! be responsible and be safe.
