At the fist look it seems like Dr Pulley HIT clutch for Xciting 400i have a serious linet problem. Mine after a few kilometers with the preinstalled springs looks like the photos I have attached to the end.

I contacted more than a month ago to Dr Pulley and their representator told me that they will send me a new set off weights. That set never dispached!

I a'm almost sure that the problem with this HIT is not just the the shoe pads.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f215/user42/th_VID_20150401_173616_zpsshl63fui.mp4

My first mail with Dr Pulley was the following:

I just opened my transmission and what i saw made me very disappointing about HIT clutch.

I own a HIT 252001 for Xciting 400i.

I have been using Dr Pulley clutch for about 3500 km. I bought HIT on 15/10/2014.

I hope that i got a faulty clutch because this is a major problem.

Two clutch pads are full of cracks. The cracks are not only on the top off the pads but some off them go all the way down to the weight. I include some photos for you to see the problem.

I would like Dr Pulley replace these pads as faulty because they give me shuddering on clutch engagement even if the motorcycle is moving. Off course, i tried a new outer clutch bell but the problem remains. I am afraid that the shoe pads will break apart very soon if i keep using this clutch as my workshop already warned me .

Although Dr Pulley representator told me he understands my problem they never replaceced the clutch, neither the shoe pads. See the attached photos and the video off a 3500 Dr Pulley clutch. You can make your own conclusions about Dr Pulley reliability as a product, and ever more as a company.

Think twice before spending 300 euros on a clutch that might be faulty and never replaced. IMG_20150331_202433_HDR.jpgIMG_20150331_202422_HDR.jpgIMG_20150331_202449_HDR.jpgIMG_20150331_202358.jpgIMG_20150331_202352.jpgIMG_20150331_202408.jpg

Yeah can see the crack clearly onto the linet, maybe the noise on VID is coming from somewhere near the pushpin?

The TechPulley X4 clutch 2015 that I bought from Bike James got probable other linet material then your Dr Pulley clutch.

Yes it seems to have different material. I really can not find the exact part that causes the ringing. Y@n did you watch the video i uploaded?

The cracks for sure are a major fault. I thought Dr Pulley is advertized for it's long life and quality. I think my case debunks the myth. I will try to inform every potencial byer of Dr Pulley products to know about this case and protect his money.

On my pics you cant see the linet clearly, but the linet is made from a grey/black material with copper flakes in it. First I thought that the TechPulley clutch was just a copycat from dr. P clutch.... but the inventor him self: sir Wu from Techpulley Taiwan convinced me to try out this new 2015 version with those improved linet.

And so far so good, much better throttle response and low/mid acceleration... loving it.

During installation the only little problem I discovered was that the linet body was a little to much on the edge, so followed TechPulley Wu's advise and used a file to surplus from the edg.

I didn't remove that much, so it was a easy and fast job to do.

Yup, and today replied p.m with asked info.

Besides who was your representative @ dr. pulley, was it Dirk Distel from Germany ?

Yes! Dirk was very polite,

he told me that he contacted immediately with Paul form DrPulley and Paul would send me s set of new weights 1,5 month ago an a few days.

Nothing ever dispatched! As Dirk told me they did not have stock weights to send me and a set would be send to me me direct through Taiwan from Paul so i don't have to wait any longer.

Almost a month later Dirk picked some new parcels from Taiwan and guess what!!

The clutch pads were not there!

Paul never contacted me and never dispatched to me also!

Dirk told again Paul to send the new set direct to me.

Again no answer...

My reply was the following:

Very sad news indeed!

It's been quiet a long time that my HIIT clutch is on a shelf on my Library in a books place.

Can you find out why all this delay from Paul?

Shouldn't Dr Pulley have have an interest directly to my problem a month later from 31-03-2015 ?

I'm also afraid if the whole clutch is faulty because off the ringing noise that i had. Remember the video i uploaded to hear the ringing off the clutch static. Offcource the ringing with the clutch working is much greater than the static video.

If the clutch is faulty then even with new weights i will soon have the same problem...

If i ever have the weights in my hands.

What should i do ?

Please come in my position and try to figure out the how frustrating is all that after you have bought a 300 Euro clutch advertised for reliability.

I also told him that a good merchant should have offered me a quick full replace for the faulty product immediately and not avoiding it.

I offered to send the whole clutch buck to DrPulley facilities to be checked by them.

No reply.

Yes Dirk is very decent and polite guy (I know him in person), I have met him once during a German Kymco meeting we both sleep in the same hotel and during the breakfast I had a good conversation with him.

You can find him also onto many German motor scooter fora and alway's helpfull in this kind of situations

Maybe this goes behind Dirk?

But on the other hand I think that he's still responsible to push that sir Paul.

Last weekend I replaced my Malossi for the stock vario with my dr. pulley's and guess what,

even without sport variator the overall CVT performance with the TechPulley X4Kiss clutch is still da bom.

So far I did only 1000km with the X4Kiss clutch and the linet's are just fine and in perfect shape.

Kind regards Jan

Besides that, you returned to OEM vario!

Dr Pulley rollers 15 or 16gr?

I believe that you also use the OEM torgue spring and not mallosi, is that correct?

Current setup is:

Stock variator

Dr. Pulley 15 gram sliders

+13% Malossi torgue spring.

X4Kiss clutch with 15Kg. Heavy weight / 30Kg. Light weight / 25Kg. Pillow spring.

it's nice and smooth, okay not as aggressive as Malossi but I like it so far.

Hi,

I currently have:

- Stock variator with Dr Pulley 16gr (I wish I had the 15gr)

- Stock clutch with +13% White Malossi torque spring & Red Malossi clutch springs

- Arrow Race Tech titanium

Very very good set-up, I'm delighted with it. What is your top speed Jan/userGR ? So far, I "only" managed 164 Km/h at 6900-7000 rpm but I have not gotten good road conditions to push it further.

Hi!

I use Polini Variator with 7,0gr Polini rollers.

Techpulley +20% spring

I had Dr Pulley HIT clutch, but i went back to OEM because off a HIT’S fault.

By this set up i reached 172 on a straight road.

Top speed is reachable even at a very slight uphill.

By the way, another rider from Greece has reached 186 with Dr Pulley 15gr rollers on a downhill. Off course the road he reached top speed is extremely downhill. But the point is that with Pulley sliding rollers you can force your belt to the top off the variator.

There is no problem with the 16gr Pulley rollers.

You can modify them to 15 gr or do something better according to me. Use torgue spring preload. 4mm. preload on your torgue spring will give you about 400 more R.P.M’s. 2mm preload will give you 150-200 rpm’s. You will get the better acceleration that you want to, and still have a lot better acceleration at higher speeds.

I made some washers for friends and sold them at the cost. But we are a little far to send a couple washers to you also. You can make some on your own.

Arrow Race Tech titanium is great with a major disadvantage... Pretty expensive!

I also use SIMOTA air filter, and iridium spark plug!

P.S J@n i have news from Dirk and Dr Pulley, i hope that he sends me this time the spare parts soon!

8000 rpm. and 172 Km/h.

I am using MiVV Stronger (no cat.) exhaust, DNA air filter, and iridium spark plug.

In back order I have dr. pulley 10,5 gram for my malossi variator, but waiting already long time,

so for the time being I changed back to stock vario with dr. Pulley 15 gram.

Did you guys find any benefit to use the DNA/Simota filters ? I was originally convinced I should get one but reading online I mostly found it had no significant impact.

userGR,

could you expand a bit on the washers on the torque spring ? I don't understand how you do that. The idea is to compress the spring a bit more, right ? why not get a TechPulley at +20% versus the Malossi at +13% then ?

I was lucky enough to find the Arrow 2nd hand but new (warranty return, scooter sold in the meantime), so the complete line cost me 300 euros :clapping:...I would not have gotten it at the usual retail price (but there is a shop in France selling it 480 euros, much cheaper than what you can find on Ebay) => MP if you're interested.

I have not found any benefit to use the DNA/Simota filters! Only psychological benefit !

I 'm not sure if the reason if correct but with the iridium spark plug i have neve experienced a sudden engine stop.

It seems like Xciting has also the know “childhood disease” of the big bore single cylinder engines. The engine misfires on idle. With the use of the iridium spark plug the problem seems to go away!

Preload

Yes: The idea is to compress the spring a bit more!

Just a bit, as you already wrote. TechPulley is +20% and the Malossi is +13%.

The OEM spring is much softer and besides that, the OEM spring becomes more softer easily with some thousands kilometers of use.

The spring preload is needed especially if you use a lock up clutch like HIT or TECHPULLEY.

If you don’t preload your torgue spring you will get belt slippage very often!

Dr Pulley rollers 15 or 16 gr works pretty well with the OEM variator, a little extra bonus is given with the torgue spring preload. 2mm with the 15gr rollers and 4mm with the 16gr rollers. The use of the preload washers or a little harder torgue spring is necessarily needed with lock up clutches…

If you don’t exaggerate with the preload it is a nice and cheap bonus to your transmission performance! IMG_20150504_123451_zpsxhiibhnq.jpg

300 euros is the price i like!

I you ever find another Arrow 2nd hand i will be interested...:thumb:

It looks good but Dr Pulley 16gr sliding rollers are not good...

15 gr is much better!

I still have no official answer about mine.

I broke apart my HIT clutch and i found where the noise comes from!

See the attached photo and the difference in the hole size.

The driver ring shaped washer is much smaller in size!

Also the wear of the main body of the clutch looks pretty bad.
