Indeed its the licensing system at work for pushing forward certain models. 16k for a parallel twin. 17.5k for a inline 4. Both 400cc. People will want to to go for the 4 cyl since relative to cost, you get a lot more. At 400cc, 4 cyl, u can push the bike to max in 1st 3 gears & stay within the law or at least within the 1st tier of excesses. So its a 4 cyl which can be utulized in the real Singapore.

In Sg, wages are depressed while living exp upping. Pace of living also up. We are afterall the fastest city walkers on earth. So people will also want to go for something time tested. affordable and easily avail spares are critical. Considering that the twin 400s are largely thai, with "competitive parts" the tag of 16k seems inflated.

The twins may be more viable when maybe a new S4 model is launched at 20k, & the twins taper down to 15k.....then the twins will appear to be value for $ relative to looks & performance.

1997 TZR 125 - 1998 FZ 150 - 1999 GSXR 400K - 1999 RX 100 - 2000 LC 125 - 2001 TZR 125 - 2002 CB 400 Ver S - 2006 CBR 929 - 2006 GETZ 1.4 - 2009 STEED 400 - 2016 ???

hi, i'll disagree on a few pts. i like to look at bikes so this is what i know.

cbr400r machine price is 15.5k, hp 48.

cb400 machine price is 17k, hp 52.

how is it that you're getting a lot more? the most you get is 10km more of top speed.

however, the build quality of the cbr400r is definitely better. cb400 handles just feels cheap. and i'm sure you know that fully faired bike is always about 2k more than naked bike. ninja 300 machine price is ard 14k.

if you ask me, i think this bikes are okay priced. of course everyone will like things to be cheaper but what i don't understand is how a cbr400r can be "stupid" when it's 2k cheaper, fully faired, full electronic display, better built quality and just a little bit lower performance-wise. i respect your choice if you totally don't care about everything else and just wish to go a little bit faster. but how is the the guy who bought a much nicer looking bike at a cheaper price stupid i don't understand. at the end of the day, cb400 is still a 400cc bike. how much better can your performance be? it's not like you bought 600rr or r6 leh.

then i hear some comments like cbr400r is sleeved down from 500r so is lousy i really scratch head. piang oei, the 400r is for jap market, so i guess the jap are stupid also?

i just hope bikers here can be more open-minded and not be so quick to judge. really, if our bikers were car owners, the only supercar we'll see in spore is the nissan gtr. coz they simply can't appreciate an overprice ferrari or audi. there is nothing wrong with buying a gtr, but pls don't call someone who buys a ferrari stupid. to ppl who are willing to pay much more, the gtr is just not luxurious enough. in the same way, i feel the cb400 is an overpriced cheap bike. cheap because it feels cheap and is a naked bike. but i won't say you're stupid for buying this bike. i'll say you're boring and obviously looks don't matter to you.

Think that diff is a little more. bout 46ps vs 53ps. Get 4 cyl over 2. 1 Jpn, 1 Thai, vtec, no vtec Power aside, Its also the wailing note that some are hooked on.

Japs are also victims of their licensing system. Their Mid size cat ends at 400cc.

See a lot more variety in SG cars due to licensing system. No tiering. Tiering for bike License creates the buffet mentality.

Its the assumption that the cbr400r cost the same as cbr470r that leaves the bitter taste. The licensing system kills the variety as people also think of resale.

actually who say cbr400r and ninija300 is lousy and stupid? I didnt see anyone in this thread mention that. I only see some people say the expensive 2B bike is 'stupid'

yah got ppl say cbr40cbr cannot make it. haha, i really don't know what to say. the pt is the same. what is r15 'stupid'? that's a real sweet looking bike for a 2b. anytime r15 lool better than cb400 so expensive. of course the performance cannot compared but that's why it's only 8k what. if i wa an 18yr old, i will be tempted to buy r15. among the 2b bikes, this bike can get the most xiao mei mei, why not worth it??

you raised a very good point. in fact, when u compare the cbr400r and cb400, it's hard to justify the mark up of 2k for the cb400. the only way to justify is that cb400 got a better resale value. but here's the bugbear, the cb400 is a good bike but it's not so fantastic that it costs 2k more. the reason why is because in spore, bikers don't wish to expand their horizons and only buy cb400 loh. all i can is boring boring boring. cb400 is way overrated in spore.

S4 is the most affordable ( practically only less GSR at 20k ) 4 cyl 400cc tha can be bought brand new. 2 Cyl parallels still have the budget stigma. Usually those who want 2 cyl will go V twin for more character.

not so much die die S4. We had more variety in 90s early 2000s. GSXR400, CBR400RR, ZXR400R, Bandit 400, XJR400, CB400. But now.....

r15 look good? it looks like a kup with sport bike fairing, everything look so skinny from wheel to the tank. but i dont think it is stupid, everyone got their own taste. a super4 with belly pan and tank bra definitely look better than a r15 imo. but seriously s4 is not over rated. it is a good bike, even tho I own a class 2 bike now i still think super4 is awesome the only point bad about it is the outlook. if u look at performance and durability super 4 is best among all the class 2A tested and proven. if u talk about outlook then it is 1 of the worst.

hi bro, you're right. looks is subjective. haha. actually i don't dare to say it because so many like cb400 but since you say the looks is one of the worst, i agree with you! to be honest, many years ago when my gf, now wife, look at it, she said "eee looks like a bug." i was actual neutral towards the looks but after she say it, i have no choice but to face reality. it really look bad. that's why no matter how gd, i just can't buy it. the engine sound save the bike imo. but for 17k, the look is just too normal.

can see your point. there definitely used to be more variety, across all classes. well, the dealers won't be so adventurous unless the market shows a thirst for more variety. i find if this new honda 400 series cannot sell, really jialat. how to make spore bikers happy?? cb400 i not keen. now cb1100...now that's a bike i hope to see one day. maybe we should be thkful they even bother to bring in r6 and fireblade. haha.

Japan not doing well i tink. in the past, u have a 750 sbk. Then a 400 replica. While 600cc is workhorse. Though with fairing, but w 2 piston calliper.....steel swing arm etc.

But now that sbk is 1000cc, next down is SS 600. which is equally high spec. They prob cant stretch further and make a 400cc replica of the SS 600. So instead, just 2 offerings. GSR400 & CB400. So if u want yesteryears pocket rockets = R6, CBR6, ZX6, GSXR6. If u find the SS 600 a tad to much, they have "b" mode to reduce the response & power....some what bringing it down to the days of 400 poc rockets. These days its about economies of scale.

in the past, 16K = CBR400RR. Today 16K = either u compromise the outlook ( S4) or compromise the engine spec ( CBR400R)....money has gotten smaller. In the past, people who pass 2B = 12-13k Italian 125 race rep. Today = 8k R15, Bajaj 200 &the likes. sigh... Things getting more exp, pay cant follow in tandem..:(

1997 TZR 125 - 1998 FZ 150 - 1999 GSXR 400K - 1999 RX 100 - 2000 LC 125 - 2001 TZR 125 - 2002 CB 400 Ver S - 2006 CBR 929 - 2006 GETZ 1.4 - 2009 STEED 400 - 2016 ???

yes the engine song is awesome i kinda off miss it. if not bec of the outlook and a lot of people own s4, i will not have change my bike, the design of the bike has been about the same since the 70s when s4 first came, but it is made to be practical. new models motorcycle now may look good but the design may not be practical, for example the short tail of most new design, dust and sand can easily go up to the rear seat unless u have fender extender. Or a high tank which makes it harder to maneuver at U turn

No, thailand.

Same bike, same factory, same everything. They just shortened the piston stroke of the 500 to make the 400.

Yes, made in Japan.

Are you certain?

Because you may import it from japan, but as far as I know it is made in the thailand factory and then brought into japan before export. That doesn make it made in japan.

I bought one of the models but I don't know from where also. Hahaha.

The articles say the 500 series is from Thailand. 400 is for japanese mkt and I can't read Japanese so cannot confirm where it is manufactured. I totally understand Thai factory is producing the series but that doesn't mean there isn't a factory in Japan producing the bike as well.

From Honda website, what do you think this means???

----With the vision of “bringing the convenience and fun of a motorcycle to as many customers as possible,” .... In recent years, the company has produced a variety of models in Asia in its quest for outstanding performance and affordable prices, and then sold these models globally. As one example, the Kumamoto Factory in Japan and Honda operations in Thailand have collaborated to produce the CBR400R, CB400F and 400X - new road sports models currently sold in Japan."

I don't know 'collaborate' means what. But if it said Thai factory instead of Thai operations, i would say made in Thai loh. Could it be parts manufactured in Thai but assembled and quality check in jap?

Same bike, same factory, same everything. They just shortened the piston stroke of the 500 to make the 400.

actually since the internals are similar + the fact that externally it looks the same, so when the day comes for full overhaul. erh..parts are very readily available.
