The more I ride my SV, the less I care about going to the annual bike show and looking at new,

or expensive, or exotic machinery. I'm continuing to mod my bike into exactly what I want it,

and enjoying every mile I put on it.

I am not sure, but i think can respray the box. I dont think i will do that la, cos if the paint chip off, then the box looks very ugly...

Are u using the original wind screen? cos i intend to change my wind screen...

Recently i have been having a slight prob with my startup.

Even after warming up the bike for bout 3 mins (every few secs pulling the clutch in n releasing), the very first engagement from Neutral to gear 1 will result in a stall.

I have already changed my clutch plates, clutch cables. My biting point is set more than the half-way point.

Anyone experience such things??

Any recommendations to what i should do?

thats easy. usually engage first gear stall is caused by the side stand cut off. :cheeky:

Yeah most prob due to the side stand.

When the side stand is up doesn’t mean the side stand switch is not faulty.

There are ways to test the side stand switch.

The simplest way without multimeter is as follows:

As usual start up your bike as usual. Warm it up as usual.

Once you are satisfied that she is running at 1300rpm (+ - 200), switch off from the key.

Now sit on the bike, put up the side stand and put her to any gear other then neutral.

Try to start her as per normal Suzuki standard.

If the engine can crank, that is good to proof that the side stand switch is not faulty.

If no sound at all when the started switch is activated, that will confirm faulty side stand switch.

Next, if you confirm that side stand switch is not faulty. You may try to increase your idling to around 1500 rpm (high end of recommended range). That may solve your problem temporarily.

Cheers

Why I kept my SV for more then 10:thumb:yrs?

Its a light and fun bike:cool:.

I tried that as well. Bike starts, and same thing, stalls. Can hear the cranking sound, then bike inch forward due to stalling (clutch pulled).

today, i tried another method, to kick the gear straight into gear 2. Dun even have to warmup the bike. Works!! But i will still investigate the prob..

Stalling on 1st gear is the most common electrical problem. However, sounds like your SV is having mechanical problem with your newly installed clutch. Your current clutch lever setting is too sticky for 1st gear to be engaged without stalling the engine. You don’t have problem of stalling the engine on 2nd gear confirm your current clutch problem.

If you are keeping this set of clutch plate. The only solution is to bring the clutch’s biting point higher up to ¾ and above to solve the stalling problem.

Once the 1st gear stalling problems is solved. Slowly ease to bring the clutch’s biting point lower to a comfortable position. It will be higher then the current level.

If you don’t like that newly found clutch position, send your SV back to the shop that done your clutch. They may have a solution to solve your problem.

Cheers.

if you can hear cranking that means its not the cut-off switch anymore. Think paxson99 is right, might be a mechanical issue with your clutch. Once you manage to start the bike, and you are in first gear with the clutch in, does the bike inch forward by itself? Or does this problem only happen for cold starts?

It only happens during cold start. After the first stall, bike's normal.

Even starting again after work (9+ hours) later, still alrite..

Bike wun inch forward with gear 1 clutched in.
