Helps in what I wanna do, used to be building construction engineering and now am landed in an offshore engineering consultancy. Without this degree wouldn't come close to this.

And this degree helps as a platform to higher degrees. Advanced topics not covered during undergraduate studies will then be available.

And goodbye 648. :D

keke.. I was leaning towards how you wanna use it to improve your life and future..

i.e. is it a driving force for you to get richer? or is it just prestige and symbol?

and also development as a person, does having it make u a more confident person or does it make u more arrogant toward ur lower educated colleagues?

Does having a degree gives u shortcut up the "ladder" or does it weigh you down with a bagload of responsibilities and expertise?

Maybe I have to much time to think of these nonsense.. haha but then again, I'd appreciate your views..:D

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

After talking with my colleagues, it kinda struck me.. Between rich and time, one manager chose richness and another chose time with loved ones.. (but of course they are rich, one drives an ALFA another 2 BMWs)

Maybe you guys can share with us.. esp those graduated..

Whats your primary motive of going so far and getting a degree now, what it means for you and how are you going to use ur degree in the future..

I noe CS wants to be an astronaut..

no intention of using my degree....i took it coz this is a 'paper society'.

No regrets.

In a way, I was kinda brought up to feel that being in the construction business was very good money, may not bring you as much prestige as an architect, but it seemed to be a good job. But that was way back in 1980s.

Having a degrees allows one, IMO, to have access to more choices down the road. Taking my friend for example, he was an EEE grad with a 2nd upper, went to work in a wafer plant. Now he's with Maybank as a RO. Part of the paper society syndrome. But at least I know that why a slab of metal can float on water and sink when it wants to.

And some industries do require paper qualifications and the knowledge of the person attached to it.

Top-down effect, with downward compatibility.

Confidence or lack of, I think this is individual characteristic. I am confident and not very at times, because someone else is better at other things than me. I know nuts about handphone repair, so how can I laugh at the ITE grad who repairs my handphone?

Have worked odd jobs during my undergraduate days, have known friends who work through extended primary, normal academic, ITE and went on to go to poly and uni. I think these people are really the best, with good hands-on experience + theory. So there's nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to be proud of regarding education level.

Nowadays, there's no shortcut just by having a degree. The only shortcut is winning the CNY TOTO alone. Twice.

Faz, all the more we shud spend the whole day outdoors on weekends..

Had the worst morning today..

1. Woke up late at 8am (usually 7.30am)..

2. Rushed to take bike and skipped breakfast.

3. Upon reaching bike, the key cant turn! Was there for like 10mins sweating my ass trying to pry it on.

4. Gave up took mrt. Missed two trains bcoz it was full to the brim. Inconsiderate people wont move in.

5. Brisk to office and drench myself with sweat.

Peace (-_-) \m/

Like wad my wise manager told me, "Its not the quality of the cert, its the attitude.."
