the basic rule of economics tell us that, when there is high demand, the prices tend to shoot up if supply remains the same, yea?

but then, basic common sense tells us, that during period where economy is not doing so well, people will tend to spend less, which means the demand will go down

(here i am talking about cars)

common sense CS1101E also tells us that

with sky rocketing petrol and COE prices, demand of cars should be dropping

but how come, the COE prices are shooting up, up and way????????????

UNLESS, based on Maslov's hierachy of needs, which states that fundamental level of physiological needs are met, people reach for higher order, such as prestidge/security/love etc....

having said that, my arguement is that HDB and housing prices are still shooting, which means, there are still a large sum being pumped into these areas?/

so, why is COE (of car) every rising, and not dropping

True.

but then, basic common sense tells us, that during period where economy is not doing so well, people will tend to spend less, which means the demand will go down

(here i am talking about cars)

In another perspective, if the economy is not doing so well, and middle class commuters, who marginally afford to drive, will not be spending their money on cars. As what you mention, demand will go down. On the car maker side, if demand goes down, prices has to go down to reach equilibrium, which will then induce upper class commuters to pounce probably.. (i'm assuming). However, in a not so good market, cost for loans (interest rates) will be presumably higher, so the self-correcting market mechanism, no matter, will always have upper class commuters buying cars..because this rich filthy maggots earn much more than inflation or any intereest rate can catch up to them,.

common sense CS1101E also tells us that

COE prices and petrol prices do deter middle-lower income commuters and make them reconsider going public, but still, i guess the ownership of a car is still more towards either family purposes or personal reasons. And thanks to our nonsensical, overhyped notion of attaining the stupid 5Cs, now everyone thinks that they need a car.

Somehow, i think the reason why the COE prices are rocketing, goes beyond economics. Prolly, some high ranking LTA personnel, came to realise of the ridiculous traffic jams in the morning and evenings, which pissed off his day and wants to jack up the COE prices in a futile bid to reduce traffic congestion.

The reason of skyrocketing HDB is no longer a fulfilment of basic housing needs, but rather due to greedy ********, wanting to grab a pie of their increasing asset value. Being a property valuer, I've faced greedy MFs, both owners and filthy agents, blatantly asking me to push the price up, so they can profit from the sale..

so, why is COE (of car) every rising, and not dropping

So the biggest mystery inadequately answered by me, of why the COE of cars is rising?

Simple.

Our govt screwed up.

COE rise due to the a.d. bidding damn high, sooner or later, when less sheep(silly sporens) flock to buy cars, then COE will drop lah!

just bear in mind, the basic rule for long trips

NVR EVER TRAVEL ALONE

if u are slow, and u know that ppl behind u are lagging more and more, dun ever throttle off, just becos u cannot see the bike in front of u....

sweeper, pls dun be an a$shole and try to push the last bike....

the bike is at the back, becos of the bike's lacking ability to 299, or the rider is not ready to 299... be considerate....
