I am sorry my darling Ducati. Scolded you wrongly. It is all my fault. I fed you RM1.8/l quality petrol and caused you a stomachache and vomiting. Yet you returned me a 20km/l fuel economy and 110km/h max speed limit. Forgive me as i have learnt my ways. Here's a new fuel filter and clean SG petrol for all your troubles.

Dinie, it is not the bike, it is the petrol. Ducati's reliability disappoints all Jap fans again.

When it comes to bikes, I only see red…

That looks like rust in your tank. The petrol is not the culprit.

i honestly think so too.. i think the malaysian petrol diluted all the rust by accident.

Haha so many different versions. True it may not be petrol. Could be rust left by previous owner since he left it in open hdb carpark. Water may have seeped in. That is a lot of water in there. Anyway i ever reached the last 500 ml of the tank and it could not have been water since i made it to petrol station. There are also many cases of water in petrol from JB pumps/dirty petrol. Now i just pump SG petrol and monitor the situation.

i went down this "rust in fuel tank" route with my old bike. you dun want it in our tank. rust tends to spread. eventhough octane 98 is known to gradually eat up rust, i strongly recommend derusting it first. the rust in my old bike's tank resulted in it eating a hole through my tank, ending in petrol leak.

No leak. Just internal rust near the top of tank. presumably from condensation inside the tank. Bottom of tank no rust. Very minor rusting only. I have sacrificial corrosion plates stuck to the tank but they seem to be in good condition still.

When it comes to bikes, I only see red…

For all the die-hards who have nothing more bling to add, check this link for aluminum petrol tanks:

http://www.moto-works.jp/beater/index.html#d9

DUCATI MONSTER US$2200

DUCATI 916-998 748 US$2100

Unfortunately, there is no alloy tank for the ST2/ST4. Guaranteed no rust problems.

Carbon, Kevlar and any composite tanks are banned in race applications, so really not suitable for road. Only aluminium or steel is allowed. Carbon tanks will eventually leak and once damaged, cannot be repaired. Unfortunately, the alloy tanks cost as much as my bike!

If i get a new tank it will last the next 8 years without rusting. Or if i paint undercoat, it will still last long.
