Hi all,

Am looking to buy my first bike here in Singapore and I know absolutely nothing about either bikes nor about the dealers (other than wandering around etc). I was initially thinking about buying a Honda T200/Phantom however I really wouldn't know if ones on offer at dealers/in ads are legit or whether they are heaps of junk being fobbed off onto an unsuspecting newbie. Which leads to my question, are there any dealers or individuals that offer a paid service to help idiots such as myself go through the minefield of identifying the turkeys from the good bikes?

I had thought about buying one and then immediately getting an engine overhaul done but again I really don't know the best place to start. Anyone know of any "finder" service here? Anyone who knows bikes want to earn some cash doing it?

Hi yes am a foreigner and am just converting my UK license over to a 2B have done the BTT etc just need to go and visit the TP, simple answer why I'm not buying a new bike is I have looked at all of the 2B options that are available and don't really like any of them. For the sporty new type I liked the Honda cbr150r but none of the dealers have any stock and they can't say when they might be getting any. I think the TA200 looks kind of interesting/classic style wise so thought I would take a look for one of those then realised very quickly it is a total minefield and the chances of me buying something rubbish is quite high.

hi, whatever it is, ubi rd 1 planet motors overhaul is about 400$ and they are trustworthy.

They specialise in phantom. They do not sell bikes.

Vxx,

Apart from getting a mechanically reliable bike, you must also be aware of the COE system for vehicles here.

It also affects the price of the machine you intend to purchase.

Basically, all vehicles in singapore must have a Certificate of Entitlement (COE for short) to be allowed for road use here (apart from insurance and road tax that is...)

Each COE, has a maxumim lifespan of 10 years, after which it can be renewed.

Now, for the same vehicle with 8 years of COE "left" would cost more than another of the same make and model that has, for example, 4 years of COE left (before expiry)

Other factors may affect the value of a vehicle, such as cosmetic and mechanical modifications, accessories "adds value" to the vehicle.

I certainly wouldn't mind meeting you up for a cuppa and talk about bikes, however, I only available Sat morning and afternoon, next week :cheeky:

I hope veteran forumers here would give their inputs...

I've learnt a lot from this forum - Paying it forward...

Thanks simple rider! Am aware of Coe but that is going to be max 1800 additional to renew I'm more after getting a bike in the best shape I can and I can renew the Coe as required. I am more concerned about state of the bike than the overall cost and am happy to pay a bit more to know it is safe, has good parts etc. as I was planning on buying a new bike I have some flex in the budget side of things.

Sat am could work for a catch up!
