My sis bought me some HD gloves in Feb, for my Bday. 3 months later, they stink like hell!

Not to mention, if I leave them alone, they grow fungus!

I've been using mink oil to condition the leather, but some websites claim that mink oil is derived from animal oils, which may make the leather stink more.

So I would like to ask- if you have leather gloves, how in the world do you keep the gloves clean and fresh? Right now after taking the gloves off, my hands are SMELLY!

I've tried quick-soaking and drying, but that is BAD for the leather, too bad no instructions given together with the leather gloves on how to keep it hygienic and clean. Anyone??

I anticipated this problem before I bought my first pair of gloves.

Just like wearing a pair of leather shoes without socks, bacteria and sweat will make the gloves stink. I spent quite sometime looking for the right inner gloves, I was looking for thin cotton gloves that allow me to change and wash like a socks.

Guess what, I found the right one at IMM Daiso, $2 for 3 pairs if I remember correctly. I bought 20+ pairs at one go and I guess that will last me for quite a while. So far the first 3 pairs last more than a year, I change and wash the inner gloves daily like a socks and my leather gloves has no smell at all :thumb:

Spray disinfectant or lysol into the gloves and air them often. Smells are hard to get rid of once it happens so can only reduce. Or bring wet wipes with you and wipe your hands after you ride.

If you think your riding gloves are stinky wait till you smell boxing gloves!! hehe!

Go to any pharmacy and pick up a bottle of shoe spray, I use Boots spray, I think it'll help to disinfect your gloves and it sure leaves it smelling much better.

Everytime after you use them, put them in front of the fan to dry. That's the best you can do really.

is there such a thing as an anti-bacteria spray? cause i read tht smell is actually caused by bacteria, so if got such a spray to kill the bacteria, i guess the smell will go away too

Shoe sprays will kill bacteria and also fungus.

Once per week, i put my leather gloves inside microwave oven for about 20 sec until i see a bit of steam coming out , i switch it off. If your microwave oven is high powered one eg. 2000watt, it might take less time. This kills off fungus & bacterias, so smell is gone immediately.

Take note, if overheat too long , even by 10 secs, the leather will shrink.

Once every 3 months, i soak into soapy water, then rinse off & air dry.

just throw into washing machine and wash la if it is really that smelly. Some of the dye will run. then sun it. When its dry just apply leather conditioner onto it. Use this method on my harley davidson full leather gloves. Even after 1 year and multiple washes, its still good. Only thing its slighty discoloured. but then again who will acutally bother to go see if ur glove is in "shiny" condition. haha
