K&N air filter are meant to be reuse compare to stock ones which cannot be washed..

u juz need to go to a bike shop that use K&N recharge kit or buy one yrself..

the kit consist of 2 bottles.. the cleaner and the recharger..

spray the cleaner on the filter and leave it for few mins.. then wash it wif water..

allow it to dry naturally.. remember not to use air gun to blow dry as it will damage the filter inside..

after is dry, use the recharge bottle to "oil" the filter.. actually is some substance that helps to trap dirt..

normal wash interval is every 6 months.. but if u ride under dusty condition like working at construction site, then u hav to wash much often..

K&N can last u up to 2 years compare to stock ones which onli 6 months then u hav to buy a new one and replace it...

Biting on the fray of my hair, I muse upon the way to find the oasis of evermore beyond the vertical horizon, I shall join the windupdeads in owl city, neither my safetysuit nor my red jumpsuit apparatus can save me, cuz I mistook a death cab for cutie in plain white T's...

2 years only?

is a rough estimate of the life span..

the material in the filter will deteriorate as time go by..

nothing in this world is lasting one..

Your 2 year estimate is well of the mark. Here's what K&N say "K&N offers a 10 year 1,000,000 mile warranty on it's air filters" & "The K&N air filter is engineered to last the life of your engine." Check their website.

I have been using K&N filters on all my vehicles and they have outlasted the filter have outlasted the vehicles. The longest I've used one is for 8 years on a car and my current VFR has it for more abt 7 years now.

It gives me the cost-performance advantage that I want and I recommend it anytime.

I have no vested interest in K&N or any company that brings in this stuff.

hey bro,

do you use the same method to clean the K&N air filter for your car too?

I just realised i havent wash my car's air filter for 4 years already~!!! :giddy:

Rule thumb (for car or bike): Clean & re-oil your K&N filters at the same interval that your vehicle manual recommend replacement. If you ae more fastidious, every 6 months or 10,000km should be fine on Sg roads. Some inital dust on the filter is said to improve filtration, hence its better not to clean it too often.

& Oh four years ........ what are you waiting for?

cuz i always send my car to those Shell Autoserve located in Shell petrol station to change engine oil and they don't clean/re-oil K&N filter mah... that's why i don't know where else to go already. I'm not well-versed with cars workshops.

Is the cleaning process for car K&N air filter the same as for bikes? if it is, i might try to DIY....

Its the exactly the same. Very simple.

3rd posting in this thread by Aalex82 describes how it is done. Let me kaypoh and rehash here again.

You need to go buy the cleaning cum oiling kit. Cost about $20 (at Looi's or some car accessory shop) and can be used for xx number of uses. You spray on the cleaner onto the filter element, let it soak for 10 minutes; wash it off with clean tap water (no high pressure jets); swing off remaining water and let it dry at room temperature. Avoid hot sun or hair dryer. Fan blow it if you want it to dry quicker.

When dry, oil by running a bead of the oil along the ridge of each fold of the filter. Do not over-oil. it will saturate the fabric into a nice red tinge. Replace into filter housing. That's it.

lifetime warrenty provided, so you can be sure of their quality and performance. k&n produces filters for all makes of vehicles, pipercross does only for motorbikes, so much more research and design are done on the filters..

price wise, better to call up mezzo to check it out. diff bike diff prices..

cheers!

Hey anyone know where can I get the cleaning kit for K&N filter?

Just bought the K&N Recharger (part no. 99-5050) from Mah Motorparts, opposite Sim Lim Tower, for $18. It consists of one bottle of Air Filter Cleaner, and one bottle of Air Filter Oil.

22. Can I use compressed air to dry the filter faster?

No, this can blow the filter material right out of the wire mesh and ruin the filter. Pick a nice day to clean the filter and let it dry naturally.

but usually bike shop will use heat dryer due to time constraint

Most practices by the shops will shorten it's useful life span, and may render the filter ineffective.

It is recommended to let it dry naturally.

It's easy to clean your K&N filter. From start to finish in less than 2 hrs but with at least 90mins waiting in between. Most time is spent waiting for it to dry after cleaning, and after re-oiling to allow it to dry before re-installation.

easiest and cheapest way to clean it - just pour petrol into some small boxes, dig the air filter for an hour or sort of, let it dry and spray wd40 on the inner side and you're good to go :-)
