Fernando Torres has today completed his move from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool after putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.

The 23-year-old striker will be unveiled to the media in the number nine shirt vacated by Robbie Fowler just after 3pm.

Torres passed a medical at Melwood yesterday before briefly flying back to his homeland to say an emotional goodbye to fans in Madrid.

The Spaniard leaves the La Liga side with a record of 82 goals in 214 league games.

He spent 12 years at the Vicente Calderon Stadium after being snapped up at the age of 11.

Torres made his debut aged 17 before becoming Atletico's youngest ever captain two years later.

The striker was top scorer and best player at both the 2001 European Under-16 Championships and 2002 European Under-19 Championships. He made his full international debut in September 2003, and has so far scored 14 goals in 40 caps.

Nicknamed El Nino (The Kid) because of his youthful appearance, he was selected for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where he scored three goals.

In May 2007 Torres hit the headlines when he revealed the words 'You'll Never Walk Alone' on the inside of his captain's armband during a match against Real Sociedad. Two months later he is a Liverpool player.

cisse a star?? the fella runs blindly and shoots wildly was never a star to me...

morientes and anelka WERE stars when liverpool signed them..

But torres.. this kid is 23 and looking at his youth records... hmmmm better not say first. haha!! Anyway we shouldnt expect all the work from him only. rafa shud quickly buy a good winger to supply crosses for him to finish off. Ribery is the best option but he already signed for bayern munich....vicente or joaquin shud be available...

Dirk Kuyt was a rising star back in Holland.

He did ok in his first season at 'Pool.

Did not live up to his promise of 30 goals but his hardwork and never-say-die attitude plus great discipline endeared many.

Realized that Torres has blond, or rather, bleached hair like Kuyt. Wah, think good tactic to put him Kuyt together. Can confuse the opposing team.

Rafa Benitez admits he is surprised Robbie Fowler hasn't yet been snapped up following his release from Liverpool.

The 32-year-old striker, whose contract at Anfield expired at the end of last season, admitted earlier this week that he had yet to receive any offers.

Benitez said: "I was surprised. Maybe people don't know how good a professional Robbie is.

"I worked with him, Bolo Zenden and Jerzy Dudek, and the three of them were fantastic. Everyone knows the quality they have, but they were also real professionals. I hope they will have some offers over the next few days."

Fowler played 369 games for the Reds, scoring an incredible 183 goals

YAAWNNZZZZZ!!!!

Pleaze!

He's gonna be another Forlan to ManUre.

Mascherano was a much much much better investment and we got him on the cheap.

Beware. El Nino has hit the Premier League...

El nino will go down on the same road as the one Forlan and Shevchenko took.

Hoho.

michael owen was the best liverpool ever produced... sold to madrid... then lost his touch... scored 118 goals for the reds...

fowler was also a gem that liverpool produced... however sold to leeds when they were rising... subsequently injured and out of form... last out of contract... 120 goals...

now look at Fernando Morientes... was scoring like crazy at madrid(128goals in 250 appearance) before his loan move to monaco was disappointing... at liverpool even worst... 8 in 41 games... however back at valencia 12 in 24... dun think he is considered a "WERE star"... most like not suited to liverpool's play...

now torres... his record was nothing compared to morientes...82 goals in 214 games... was made the youngest captain in A.madrid... his only attribute better then morientes is his speed...

now cisse... he scored like 1 goal in every other game... good record if u ask me... but in liverpool he scored 1 in 3... mostly played out of position and injured... broke both his legs... he is a star when he joined liverpool... but became a 'was' when he was in liverpool...

now crouch.. tall fellow... but performed poorly agaisnt strong defenders... e.g. nesta and ferdinand... created quiet a bit of goals... but scoring wise... not too good...17 in 64...

ever since liverpool sold owen and fowler... no one other then kuyt has ever lived up to their hype... even when stars joined they fail to live up to their name... juz look up the list... i would say... get owen back... they already made 2 mistakes... 1 in letting him go.... the other in not signing him from madrid... if torres will live up to his hype we'll juz have to wait and see... but the stats are not looking to good for liverpool who tries to buy the best strikers...

Man;3048497']or is Nick a closet Liverpool fan....?

We can only guess...

**update**

Oh yeah! I forgot. My bad, J-man.

Just re-read my EPL supporter's guide book:

This Supporting Life - How To Be A Real Football Fan

MUFC fans tend to have the by-law "right" to sit at their opponent's camp and hurl insults at the opposing teams. Same goes for Spurs fans.

Unlike other team fans that does not have to stoop so low.

The guide's a good read from a neutral (Norwich City) fan. Highly recommended....

Liverpool is a good team.

Good as in making good players become worse and low in value. Then sell them, of course.

Need examples? If you are a football, dont think you need names.
