Just to share. I stopped at the red light at mandai rd/sembawang rd junction. I was the the only vehicle in the lane at the time. A toyota axio (corolla) rear-ended me. Luckily the impact was not great and I was not knocked off my bike. It was only after I had to signal him to get out of his car to exchange particulars before he alighted his vehicle.

It was only later I learned that he had not used his foot brake to bring his car to a stop but applied his hand brake and simply "close one eye". In addition to this, he simply refused to hand over his identity card and insurance particulars because he couldn't see anything wrong with my bike. (fyi wheel bearings can be damaged without symtoms) Eventually we ended up exchanging contacts and found he is a PR. However judging from his name, most likely is originally from PRC. (2 syllable name like Hong Fei is all thats written on his driver's license.)

1) bad driving habits (more serious imo)

2) lack of knowledge regarding accident procedures

To date I have not taken any actions against him or his insurance. However, should I report his lousy driving habits?

What do you think?

I'm hesitant to reveal particulars of the vehicle for now.

Lessons I've learnt is

1) when u stop at red light and theres no car behind you~ keep an eye on your rear view mirror.

2) better yet avoid such a situation if you can. Lane split between cars to allow some space for cars to drive up beside you or if you will, het out of the cars usual zones on the lanes.

Note: who the f stops his vehicle with his hand brake alone?? Wtf?? :?

Report him. What kind of driving is that.Using hand brakes to stop?Maybe you're lucky the speed that he rear ended you was not enough to injure you,but if nothing is done about his bad driving habits,no doubt he'll kill someone one day.

And even after the minor accident,he still refused to hand over his particulars, just because he couldn't see any thing wrong. i'd punch him in the face and say i cant see any swelling,so no restitution needed

Btm line.Report him

I think after what you say and reading other threads, I shall report him.

Report to where leh? Police Report at NPC? TP?

Reporting to TP right? Police also don't have anything to do with the DIPS points system right?

If lets say for in the future that guy langgah someone else and his insurance gets a claim. I want it to be noted that there has been a complaint against his bad driving habits before. Need to report to TP right?

You can lodge a report at at NPC. They'll give you a copy of the report and NPC will refer the case to TP.

Take down his/her car plate number.Remember the location, time of the accident.Take pictures of the parts that were damaged if visible.Lodge a report at any NPC. And they'll refer the case to TP.

Or another "idea" is to use your hp and start recording.. show the damage, take his face and conversation

Just get off your bike and say back pain. (You should go to the hospital just to get checked) Then if they run away, call police say hit and run. Injury case. They have to take action. Go A and E and get yourself checked up. Its for your own good. You never know what damage has been caused to your spine. Motorcycle is not like car got seat, headrest, seatbelt, curtain airbag etc etc. U literally have nothing protecting your neck and back.

Nowadays it's so dangerous on the road. Even when stopping at the traffic light, we must stop defensively. Once I stopped when the traffic light turn amber to red, a p plate van just dashed past on my right. Luckily, I stopped more to my left, else .......

Red light also people whack. What I can say is be more aware of ur surroundings. Check b4 moving off. U might never know. And its funny that the person actually said he used hand brake to stop. Guessed he watched too much Fast and Furious. :cheeky:

I travel along that junction quite a couple of time and do notice speeding vehicles. I think you should make a report just for the sake of a record. His belligerent attitude seems to indicate a complete lack of indifference to the fact that he could have caused an accident, injuring you or worse, if his car has not (barely) stop in time to avoid a full collision.

I agree with your lessons learnt. I make it a habit to stay in gear one and check my mirrors till a vehicle stops behind me, so that I can at least ride to the side if the vehicle is hurling towards me too fast for my comfort. I read somewhere that one of the reasons for lane splitting to the front of the traffic at a junction is to reduce the risk of getting rear-ended.

You damn luckily you never die.

Imagine if the impact was slightly harder, you kena knock off your bike and roll forwards and then a lorry crossing the yellow box runs over you.

Must report this type of people!

If not the next accident someone die by the hands of this guy you sure feel guilty for the rest of your life.

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.
