No. Battery water and distilled water is totally different. Although some pple pour distilled water into batteries. It works as it dilutes the electrolyte but increasing the content letting it cover the metal plates in the battery. But its is not advisable as it shortens life spans of battery. I have come across many drivers and trainees in my office resorting to use distilled water for their batteries. This is not the right practice. Battery water can be purchased from any automobile shop. Do not use it if seal is broken. To test the usability, pour out a bit on the floor. Bubbles will immediately form with a 'sss' sound as though its eating into the ground. If not then it fails.

Battery water is commonly known as electrolyte. It is acidic and non potable. Even if it comes into contact with skin, you must wash it away. Else you'll start to itch. If fabric comes into contact, it will discolour and holes will start to appear.

Distilled water in itself is pure water (H2O) There is no other particles inside. It is also potable. Distilled water is meant to mix with ethyleneglycol to form coolant.

For more info do PM me.

Distilled/Deionised water is sold as "Battery Water" in singapore. Battery acid is another thing altogether and is not regularly sold over the counter these days, it is a controlled item. Adding "Battery Water" to batteries is the right thing to do, you're not supposed to top acid after the 1st time, u just screw up the chemical balance. Battery water can also be used for radiator. No offence dude, but that's alot of wrong info.

If the label is to be believed, then yes. Human have little adverse effects to a little mineral salts in the water sold, and will probably be non the wiser with a little sloppy QC. I stick with 'battery water' myself, but I do admit that we're mostly probably splitting hairs here.

IC. May I know where is the source of your info? I can go and check out too and if its true, Inform my boss to refer to higher authority to stop all this practice as many pple are doing that now. Thanx.

Currently, I've been instructed by my senior that if the battery volt is unable to give the desired voltage eg. 8V-11V for a 12V battery (If lower than 8V condemn the battery) , try to top it up the balance with distilled water first. Then charge it. But if the battery is unable to charge up, Pour out the entire battery water and refill it with battery water and charge again. If still unable to get the correct voltage then condemn the battery.

Thats new info to me though we're talking about coolant and off topic to batteries. thanx.

It is common knowledge lah. The acid is not supposed to disappear, it converts between lead sulphate when battery is used, and back to acid when charged. U top up water because water gets eletolysed into hydrogen during charging (the bubbling u see), so need to replenish to maintain concentration of acid. If u keep adding acid, u boost the discharge chemical reaction (battery is 'revived'). But u get excess acid concentration and does not help in recharging process, eventually ruining the battery. It seems u work in the technical line of some fleet operations? Been there done that, each company has lots of very strange practices, part of the culture handed down by the lao jiao TOs.

Anyways, I just bought a carton of 'battery water' yesterday for a coolant change with a bunch of friends, the bottle clearly states the only impurity is 3 ppm of calcium, not acid.

for the temperature of the engine... its not only the coolant plays apart. the engine plays a massive difference. synthetic oils sometimes doesnt claim what they can do.

ya.. i agree too... wat i found out was the temp on my bike decreases faster after a jam as compare previously... and i didnt know i can flush the radiator using vinegar and water... though all along the only way is to use the radiator cleaner...

Yes, just buy distill water at NTUC at $0.65 for 1.5litre, I guess u need one as I have some more here. Just buy I mix for u provided u know how to drain ur own bike.

If not I guess u better do it at shop..

Might be ur radiator cap spoil and time to change ur coolant.

Cap must change 2-3 years.
