When is your last servicing on the injectors?

You might hav a choke injector or dirty fuel filter, have a mech to check first.

Mine was due to a dirty fuel filter that choke the fuel line, try STP gas treatment. Might or might not cure but not harm using it first.

I acquired the bike used very recently, so I have no clue when the injectors were last serviced. I suspect the answer is "never"! Anyway my mech put my bike on a course of fuel injector cleaner (sounds like putting a patient on a course of antibiotics) and I'm only in my second tank of fuel (Shell 98). So far the problem has not recurred. I also make it a point to engage VTEC at least a few times a day to exercise the valves and actuators.

The idle adjustment screw is starting to budge a little. I've got to do it really slowly to overcome the friction inside the mechanism, which probably seized a little over time. Cold idle is around 1,000-1,100 rpm, normal temperature (70-90C) is around 1,100-1,200 rpm and hot (90-104C) is around 1,200-1,300 rpm.

mine is coming to its 10year soon and its still in a superb condition.

it still takes one crank to roar it to life.

just wana do preventive maintenance..

is there any particular area that should be of concern?

it will be a pity if i dont renew its coe..

The VFR has an under-designed charging system. Check the rectifier output and battery voltage for (1) when the bike is off; and (2) when the engine is revving at 5,000rpm. If you are keeping the bike for a few more years, you can consider the famous VFRness from http://www.wiremybike.com to beef up the system.

It will definitely be a pity if a good condition VFR gets taken off the road. I am guessing there are less than 200 VFRs left on Singapore roads now.

Hi to all VFR800 owner,I just got myself a VFR800 VTEC.From my understanding,VFR800 VTEC is equpped with automatic choke.Every morning, whenever i start my bike, the idealing will be around 1000rpm and reaches 1200rpm after a few mins of riding.

Is is so difference from my FZ6 S2 automatic choke that start off with 1500rpm when cold and the rpm gradullay start to drop to my preset idling of 1100-1200rmp around 45-50 deg.

Anyone one of you encounter the same suitation as me?

Mine's the same. 1,000rpm cold, 1,100-1,200rpm normal and 1,300rpm when cooking in start-stop traffic.

What tires would you recommended for the occasional track day? Say, 80% commuting, 15% sport riding and 5% track?

I am currently running Michelin Pilot Road 3. They are superb street tires, especially for rainy Singapore. The wet grip is simply outstanding. I rode in the recent heavy rainstorms at dry-weather speeds, and the tires never hydroplaned nor lost traction. Granted, I have trained myself to be smooth with the throttle and brakes from my literbike days, but the tires deserve praise for inspiring confidence. They're so much better than the Pirelli Diablo Strada (which I had on my FZ6S2) it's not even funny. If anyone asks me what I'd use for street and sport touring, I'd say PR3 without hesitation. But what makes the PR3 great for the street also makes it bad for attacking corners. Turn-in is really slow, and the tire carcass is stiff. Great for stability and longevity, bad for line corrections and mid-corner bumps. Feedback is also lacking, even though my suspensions have been set for the correct free and static sags. For reference, I ran Dunlop Alpha-10 on my previous CBR400RR track bike and those tires were great up till the moment they gave up and landed me in a lowside.

Unfortunately, things aren't as simple as swapping in the latest and greatest supersport rubbers. The VFR is much heavier than any literbike and it's going to wear out sticky tires in no time. I need something that grips the asphalt at knee-scraping lean but last longer than a few sessions. The tire must be able to take me to and from work everyday safely, rain or shine. The best sportsport tire of today, Dunlop Q2, is known to wear out fast, so it's off the list. Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Bridgestone's new S20 (which replaces the BT016 Pro) top the list at this moment. I am also contemplating the Continental ContiSport Attack (better still, the ContiSport Attack 2), which are said to provide very good grip at a fraction of the price. I am not enamored by the high price of Pirelli and Metzeler tires though.

Hey Rhema.

I currently have the Pirelli Dragon Super Corsa on My VFR and its great for the track but its already down three sessions and the sides are beginning to move a bit when opening at the exit. These tyres dont last too long especially at PG's rough tarmac. It doesnt have the balance of use you seek, so ..consider the BT023

An oft underrated multi-duties tyres are the Bridgestone BT023. I loved these tyres and hava used them for the same kind of riding duties you seek.

It is not the most secy tyre around but it is amazingly versatile, for the street as well as for the track. The side are very sticky and you can feel it with your fingers after a regular ride. I use it on the track as well and it is just amazing.

It also wear very evenly and i did not expereience the dreaded flat spot even when its down to the wear bar. Your excperience in this regard may differ depending on the way you ride but from your posts, I guess our riding styles are pretty much the similar so it should be the case.

Just dont go for the GT version; these are harder compund and less sticky as I discovered on my other heavier bike.

What is the temperature before the radiator fan turn on for vfr800 vtec?

Manual say 100. Mine (5th genner) kicks in at 100 and cut-out at 99~98. But should be the same for 6th genner.

Aren't Z8 Interact and Angel ST true-blue sport-touring tyres? I don't think I am going to feel a lot of difference switching from Pilot Road 3 to either one. Which shop do you go to for tyres? I am using HKL's online prices for comparison.

I used to run BT021 rear (new) and BT020 front (used, from previous owner) on my FZ6S2. My experience with them was quite neutral. Their dry grip was more than adequate for the little Fazer, and their wet grip was nothing to complain about. Alas, a nail punctured the rear near the sidewall after only a couple of months, and forced me to change the set. I decided to go with the inexpensive Diablo Strada, which did a good job ferrying me to and from work for two years, but hydroplaned pretty easily in heavy rain. That's not a tyre I'm going to miss.

Since BT023 is the newer iteration of BT021 and the more touring-oriented sibling of the S20, I suspect it will be incrementally better than the BT021 and wear better than the S20. Nevertheless the heavy weight and different power delivery of the V4 VFR may cause it to behave differently. Is the steering of the BT023 heavy? I am getting quite tired of the Pilot Road 3's heavy steering.

People on VFRD have been recommending Pilot Power (non-2CT) front and Pilot Road 2 rear. I'm not very convinced, although many rave about them. They can't be bad if so many VFR riders swear by them, right?

Whatever my choice is, though, I'll stick with the Pilot Road 3 until the wet season is over. Despite its annoyingly heavy steering, it's a stellar rain tyre and sticks to the road even at high speeds on NSH in the rain.

What is the temperature before the radiator fan turn on for vfr800 vtec?

Mine turns on at 104 deg C. The temperature may creep up to 105 but never higher before it drops. The fan cuts out at about 98.

VFRD members are mostly in the states.... Their temp n humidity levels are diff from us.... And their tarmac is different... So can't compare 100%... Tyres are mostly personal choices due to how u ride so if u found one that is shiok to u.... Stick with it!

I've ridden in the US (New York State and Ontario-Canada to be exact) on a SV650. The roads and weather conditions there are indeed quite different from Singapore or West Malaysia. The road can be pretty bad in some places, due to the annual freeze during winter. You have to watch out for tar snakes and potholes.

On second thoughts, I should stick to my PR3 for now until they're worn out. There's no clear better choice right now and I am thinking of putting some serious kilometers on the bike riding to Bukit Fraser and Phuket Bike Week.
