vftT, saw your post that you wrote the BMW R1200RT in one of your European Alps trip. Can you share your thoughts of that bike for touring?

Hey J. How are you? Been a very long time.

The Beemer is a great mountain-touring bike for roads such as the Alps where tight hairpin corners on steep inclines and especially downhills are aplenty. It has good torque for such as terrains - but not too much as to be intimidating. I especially like the telelever front end which eliminated front end dives on the descent; this became evident when I return the following year and used the Honda Crossrunner. The latter is not much fun in such terrain.

The heated grips and seats were invaluable at the low temp. The wide handle bars helps steering much.

On the highway though the Beemer quickly runs out of breath at just 160kmph. Perhaps there is some problem with my unit.

The high screen is also very good.

Overall the Beemer is a great tourer with surprisingly nimble handling for mountain twenties. You just need to use counter-balancing techniques in the tighter stuff.

Would I use this bike again for the next one? Absolutely.

But my VFR800FI still does it for me.

Cheers.

Hi Teng. Thanks for the review of the RT.

Your Alps trip is really amazing. I hope I can experience it one day.

Glad to know you're still keeping the VFR. They're getting rarer these days.
