maybe uncle lim together with the rest of the lau jiaos are referring to 2 stroke bikes where carbon deposits are significantly higher compared to modern 4 strokers. i dun really believe in changing end cans at 50k mileage. anyone tried before?

If i'm not wrong - we have to change the endcan on a regular basis - maybe at 50,000 kilo. Endcans, I was told do get dirty & may cause exhaust inefficiency resulting in high fuel consumption.... :cheeky:

i also heard the lao jiaos recommend after 50,000KM, to ensure the endcan works just as well as new, flush it internally w/ vinegar and rinse w/ plain water. alternatively, soak it in soap water for 2 days. :p

seriously, anybody done any mods to the stock endcan we have huh? i remember seeing in one of the garage sales thread a long time ago abt this forumer who is selling his cbr150 w/ catalytic convertor removed from exhaust pipe. wonder how the effect will be like.

problem: this morning went work, no problem starting bike and first 15 minutes of journey. suddenly, when i tried to throttle above 5k RPM, i felt loss of power, as if fuel not going in. maintain at 4k ok, but once open to try and increase RPM again like fuel stuck. within 30 seconds of all this happening, RPM drops and bike turns off. rolled to side of road, and tried to start bike with electric. press and hold for half minute but no chance. open throttle and electric start only yields slightly louder sound but no start. in the end, push to road side and walked to work.

took half day, got bikebulance to tow to Lee Huat.

solution: spark plug long overdue for change. the 'pin' on the plug has become half the size. i think also explain when i sudden throw throttle the bike will die. i have to slowly turn regardless of high or low gear. my last change was 8000KM ago, recommended 3000-5000 change.

cost: $25 for towing. $7 for NGK Platinium. workmanship $10, but i also got him to change EO for me. EO i bring my own.

conclusion: i'm super cheapskate to wait so long to change, end up paying more cos got to pay for towing, and lost working hours cos took half day.

Yeah, u're right. good learning point for the rest. can you give a good estimate of the mileage u done with their spark plug or the duration u had it?

im the 3rd owner of a well maintained FZ '05 model since Oct '07. when i took over it had about 27000KM. changed first EO at 30000KM. spark plug never changed since i took over, didn't know when 2nd owner changed. 2nd EO changed at 35000KM, looked very dark, but not totally black. i use 15W-40 Esso semi-syn @$10.19 a pop.

hope that helps!

i guessed it must been ages since the bike last had a spark plug change. from my own experience with this bike, at 5k mileage, spark plug still looked to be in pretty good condition, at 10k mileage, it looks pretty dark brownish and kind of wasted. not entirely fouled up but certainly on the way. any longer mileage i'm not feeling adventurous to try already. :faint:

it's lessons for everyone, not just zed.

Best to check wif a LBS - how does a dirty endcan affect yr bike.... i really hv no idea - my bike dun hv this type of problem u mentioned. :)

I did ask the Honda Dealer in BKK if riders there change Endcan - they told be it is recomended to change every 4 years, but riders in BKK do have higher mileage compare to SG. :cheeky: :cheeky:

then how u know how long the spark plug had been used?

u mentioned that it lasted for 8000KM right??

i go for the user manual recommended spark plug NGK CR8E.

my previous spark plug lasted for 10,000km w/o problems.

current spark plug going for abt 6,000km already.

4 years should be a good 80k mileage for them i guess, might be a good estimate? but i just dun buy the idea of choke up in 4 strokers. wat ya say?

well, i'd maintain the spark plug but i didn't know when was the last time it was changed. also, didn't know that spark plug is the next frequent thing to change, before air cleaner and after EO.

would anybody agree with me that they find the bike kinda sluggish, heavy, slow acceleration under normal riding the first few days after an EO change? i just changed mine today and it just feels odd.

with regard to the carbon fiber rear hugger purchase, i promised to send Thailand http://www.aseanmoto.com the money this saturday 2nd Jan, but one of our buyers, Dex, has yet to PM me his contact. looking at how little days are left, is anyone else interested?

the cost should be about $100 each including shipping, depending on the day's exchange rate. originally 3 buyers for this MO: me, Derrick and Dex. but i can't contact Dex to collect money. =(
