for overhaul, i think denniz can give u a pretty gd cost estimate. the bikeshop that he went to was the same shop where i got them to do my top servicing - Planet. the way planet works is that they only recommend u to change parts which deserve to be changed. and this is problem, cause they can only give u an estimated quote until they strip the engine apart.

:cheeky:

full overhaul > around $470+ i forgotten liaoz... (starting Ah Chong will quote u more, afterwhich the actual price will be lesser...)

now i very scared of rainy weather > cold start. very hard to start. even if i pull the choke. *worries*

personally i had used FUCHS Silkolene EO and simply loved this EO coz bike performance are good @ all condition.

currently using Maxima red, super good @ high rpms.

also i had been reading a article by Chris Mossy > "Staying Alive"

very informative. will post up the articles for u guys to read... *hopefully i m not breeching the copyrights... haha... cheers.

You can easily clean the carb yourself. Just buy a carb cleaner. Remove the tank and air box. (so that the input of the carb is visible). Get a small bottle to supply fuel to the carb and block the suction line (the vacumn line from engine)

Then spray the carb cleaner to all the holes in the input of the carb. Each of these holes are connected with jets. If you carb is not badly blocked this will work just fine. After this you have to tune up the carb if the air fuel mixture is not correct. If you want I can send you some links that describe how to properly tune the carb.

links to tune carb!

that will help!

U want to change ur air filter & cleaner? Shaun & me hve confirmed that we will be changing them this coming Wednesday 10AM @ Zed's Motordiam. Parts will be supplied by Zed. If u want, u need to confirm b4 10 30 tmrw morning.

Btw, its not totally hassle-free lar, we need to change few parts regularly in order to maintain our lovely CBR. :thumb:

Pump Caltex all the way & hopefully u got nothing to do with ur carb. :cheeky:

i don't supply the parts. you got to pay for it.

i don't want long queue when i come back on wednesday.

I totally agree with what he say. No offence to Zed, but i have seen many many motorcyclist having the mind set of

"honda bullet proof.. sure ok one.. " they keep having the sure ok one sure ok one.. mindset..

I'm a quite a newbie in this motorcycling world, so i guess sometimes what i say people will think am crapping, but i have seen people who has those mind set, end up their bikes are as crappy as nonsense that you suddenly pity every single thing on the bike. My mind set is when the time is up, you gotta do it.. Dont because you can save some cash then dont do... To me i think mechanical stuff also need some care and attention.. Wait till the day when u are rly in need to go home where.. suddenly your piston seize due to neglect .. So when ever got problem.. DIY then DIY, do those must do one... dont over do it lo... also, i believe all bikes in the world dont have such thing call bullet proof... every machine is vulnerable..

I went to wash and service my carb today.. The mech opened up the carb and washed and tuned. the throttle is much better now... so must do one do... and dont forget the regular maintenance and servicing. :p

well said!

Woah, I would love that. It sounds a little outta my capabilities though. I'll have to read your links and check. But Thank you man! Even if I decide to spend the $10 bucks, it would be a good read!

Hmmm... i see i see thanks for the heads up leh! But its the tuning part.. but i think the entire life of my this cbr nvr clean b4.. so just clean clean tune tune. make the bike abit happpier.. and hopefully to improve my fc... my bike is 5YO lo.. how abt yours? does anyone's CBR is over 5 yo? :thumb:

My bike is FW plate man.. so yeah I think mine is over 5 years!

I heard that one needs to overhaul at 100,000 clicks. so I have about 20,000 km to go before I overhaul... Anyways, the price is steep but a necessary evil. How long does it take? and how was the running in afterwards? just top end running in right?

I have never used Silkolene but since I have heard a lot of good stuff about it then I think I'll give it a try soon.

Silkolene got semy-syn 10-40 or not?

Actually, I could not understand how can a particular brand of EO would affect bike performance? I do understand that the thickness of the EO might affect bike performance.

Conclusion;

Different brand with same thickness >>> bike preformance is unaffected.

Anyone care to advice?

Our bike has a maintanance free battery. A problem with maintanance free batteries is if discharged below a certain limit it can't be recharged like ordinary batteries.

One more thing. Even if you have a regular battery its advisable not to use the battery for more than 3 years. The reason is it will put more load on the alternator. You wouldnt want the alternator to burn would you.

The concept is alternator should run around 60% of its total power. When its run on 100% most of the time the life time of the alternator gets reduced.

When your battery is really old it will loose the ability to keep the carge properly making the alternator to charge it all the time.

actually 100,000km is juz a general guide. if the bike is pushed to work harder than it is expected of, then maintenance is probably due sooner right?

my bike was down for total of 3days when i did top service. supposed to be done up by the 2nd day but had to do a 1day extension cause of separate issue w/ the magneto.

:cheeky:

as for running in, i dont quite trust with doing a gd job using the hard running in method. so i went for the safe method of not exceeding 6K RPM for the 1st 500kms. after that, i resumed my max speed of 90kmph at 6.5K RPM. i'm not a speedster by nature. :)

I guess you guys will love this site

http://www.mmra.org.uk/marci/cbr125/

This has the exploded part diagrams of CBR 125. This is the same as our bike the only difference is the engine block and pistons

a pity it doesnt have the part names and numbers together w/ the diagrams.

:cheeky:

anyway, we have got a pdf version of the cbr150 parts manual circulating ard in this thread.

Ok... So 6k RPM for the first 500km, then 6.5k RPM for the next 500km then riding as normal... Am I right? But your bike was down for three days man! Wah how do you survive in those three days?

I think I need to change my battery soon. Then lights are dim when I am just warming up and will brighten up if I were to throttle up. But I ride everyday isn't that enough? And how do I know if my alternator is spoilt? the first to go is the battery not the alternator right?

I am so sorry for being such a noob. And thank you so much for your help! I truly appreciate it...

Ok on cosmetics topic, How much is it to spray paint our bike? I remember somebody went for a spray painting job before... How much and how long? Hand feeling a little itchy to change color...

actually the 6K and 6.5K RPMs are just what i kept to according to speeds of 80kmph & 90kmph. dont read too much into the exact RPMs. the idea to takeaway is to not bring the bike to high RPMs at least for the 1st 500 or even 1,000KM.

:cheeky:

lights becoming brighten upon throttling is normal. doesnt mean your battery dying at all. :)

as for spray painting, i guess most of us here are still on stock paintwork or had paintwork done prior to our ownership except for 2. can try checking w/ Fad or Denniz? *shoots arrow* :p
